Sweden: Wrong results in the third semifinal of Melodifestivalen 2022?

Following the problems in the voting application in the first semifinal of the Melodifestivalen, where only the votes via phone and sms were finally taken into account, a new scandal hit the Swedish national final. After the end of the third semifinal, social media was filled with reports of unexplained results, with most arguing that the results in the 16-29 age group was wrong.

But let’s start from the beginning. According to the regulations in force at Melodifestivalen 2022, voting has two parts. In the first part, the song that receives the most votes advances directly to the final, while in the second part, based on the age categories, a new ranking is created for the remaining six songs of the semifinal, with the first going to the final and the second and third respectively in the semifinal of the second chance.

The winner of the first round in the third semifinal was Anders Bagge. Then the other six candidates gave a new battle for the second ticket that leads directly to the final. As it was said above in the second part, the voting is done based on the age categories, in fact this year the viewers have the opportunity to watch the results live by age category.

So what impressed everyone was that while Lisa Miskovsky was by far ahead of Faith Kakembo, having only the results of the category 16-29 left to be announced, finally with 79 against 75 votes the song of Faith Kakembo got the ticket for the final.

But the strangest thing about the whole case was that Lisa Miskovsky was last in this category and Tribe Friday, who were last in all categories (except for phone calls), at 16-29 were magically were second!

Aftonbladet questioned Swedish public television about the validity of the results. SVT replied that there was no irregularity and the results are correct and are what were announced, on the night of Saturday 19/2.

Melodifestivalen continues next Saturday, February 26, with the last seven songs of this year’s competition.
