Iceland: 4 out of 5 contestants will sing in Icelandic in the final!
According to an announcement by the Icelandic broadcaster, RUV, three of the five performers who qualified for the Söngvakeppnin final will perform their songs in Icelandic, both in the Icelandic final and at Eurovision, in case they win on Saturday.
Katla, Stefán Óli and sisters Sigga, Beta and Elín (who had not recorded an English version of their song anyway) chose to sing in Icelandic, as they did in the semifinals.
Reykjavíkurdætur, or Daugthers of Reykjavik, will perform the English version of their song, which also contains lyrics in Icelandic. Therefore, the only entry excusively in English is Amarosis, who were eliminated in the first semi-final but selected by the committee to compete in the final as a wildcard.
This means that the Icelandic language will probably be heard on the Eurovision stage in Turin. In the grand final of Söngvakeppnin 2022, which will be held on Saturday at 20.45 CET, with guests Daði Freyr and Tusse, the competing acts will be:
- Sigga, Beta & Elín – Með hækkandi sól
- Stefán Óli – Ljósið
- Katla – Þaðan af
- Reykjavikurdaetur – Turn This Around
- Amarosis – “Don’t you know”
