Eurovision 2022: The 10 finalists of the 1st Semifinal!
The 1st Semifinal of the 66th Eurovision Song Contest was held with success live from the Pala Olimpico in Turin, Italy.
The 10 countries who qualified to Saturday’s Grand Final are:
- Switzerland: Marius Bear – “Boys Do Cry”
- Armenia: Rosa Linn – “Snap”
- Iceland: Systur – “Með hækkandi sól”
- Lithuania: Monika Liu – “Sentimentai”
- Portugal: Maro – “Saudade, saudade”
- Norway: Subwoolfer – “Give That Wolf a Banana”
- Greece: Amanda Georgiadi Tenfjord – “Die Together”
- Ukraine: Kalush Orchestra – “Stefania”
- Moldova: Zdob și Zdub & Advahov Brothers – “Trenulețul”
- The Netherlands: S10 – “De Diepte”
The 66th Eurovision Song Contest began with a video about the ingenuity and creativity of Italians. Then The Sound of Beauty, the official song of this year’s event was presented live on the stage of PalaOlimpico which was complemented by the instrumental version of last year’s winning song Zitti e Buoni.
In total, 17 countries claimed the 10 tickets leading to the Final. Those were:
- Albania: Ronela Hajati – “Sekret”
- Latvia: Citi Zēni – “Eat Your Salad”
- Lithuania: Monika Liu – “Sentimentai”
- Switzerland: Marius Bear – “Boys Do Cry”
- Slovenia: LPS – “Disko”
- Ukraine: Kalush Orchestra – “Stefania”
- Bulgaria: Intelligent Music Project – “Intention”
- The Netherlands: S10 – “De Diepte”
- Moldova: Zdob și Zdub & Advahov Brothers – “Trenulețul”
- Portugal: Maro – “Saudade, saudade”
- Croatia: Mia Dimšić – “Guilty Pleasure”
- Denmark: Reddi – “The Show”
- Austria: LUM!X feat. Pia Maria – “Halo”
- Iceland: Systur – “Með hækkandi sól”
- Greece: Amanda Georgiadi Tenfjord – “Die Together”
- Norway: Subwoolfer – “Give That Wolf a Banana”
- Armenia: Rosa Linn – “Snap”
At the end of the competitive part, the interval acts took place. Benny Benassi gave a unique mash up of his biggest hits receiving a big round of applause. It is worth noting that finally Diodato will get his chance to sing the 2020 Italian entry “Fai Rumore”, in his home country, two years after he was selected as the Italian representative for the 65th cancelled Eurovision Song Contest.
Then two of the so-called Big 5 were on stage in Turin where we saw an snippet from their participation. We’re talking for Alvan & Ahez from France and “Fulenn” while Mahmood & Blanco from Italy performed “Brividi“.
Shortly afterwards, the executive supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, Martin Osterdahl, spoke, followed by the announcement of the ten countries we have already mentioned and will compete in the Grand Final on May 14th.
