Eurovision 2023: Latvia’s Second Rehearsal!
The time for Latvia just came. Sudden Lights are here to claim that indie rock is not dead. Their atmospheric rehearsal is about to begin. Fasten your seatbelts.
“Sing you lullabies”
Sudden Lights, an indie rock band from Latvia, was established in 2012 in Riga and consists of Andrejs Reinis Zitmanis (vocalist), Mārtiņš Matīss Zemītis (drummer), Kārlis Matīss Zitmanis (guitarist), and Kārlis Vārtiņš (bassist). They won Supernova 2023 in February 2023 with their song “Aijā” and will represent Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. The song was written in English to offer solace to a broader audience, but the title is in Latvian, a language that has not been heard at Eurovision since 2004. The title contains a word that the band claims is untranslatable but evokes the mood of a Latvian folk song. The band claims: ‘Witnessing the dark events in the world and people’s lives ruined by evil, we could not remain indifferent.’ Sudden Lights is among the most-streamed performers in Latvia and has released three studio albums since their formation in 2012 as music school students.
The second rehearsal
During their performance, Sudden Lights are dressed in sharp suits that add to their stage presence. Their performance features the same type of atmospheric lighting that we saw during their Supernova appearance, and it’s precisely the kind of show that is perfect for a large arena stage.
Furthermore, lead vocalist Andrejs Reinis Zitmanis’ melancholic lyrics sound fantastic, and the ending has a beautiful moment of serene stillness that elicits many emotions.
In the afternoon, after the completion of all the rehearsals, a video will be released with short excerpts from the television footage of all the second rehearsals!
