Junior Eurovision 2024: Luxembourg to broadcast the contest live for the first time!

In a delightful development, Luxembourg’s national broadcaster, RTL, will make history by airing the 22nd Junior Eurovision Song Contest live on November 16. This marks the first time RTL will broadcast the event, even though the country has not yet participated in the competition.

RTL Zwee has officially scheduled the Junior Eurovision 2024 in its broadcasting for November 16, complete with commentary in Luxembourgish by Raoul Roos and Eric Lehmann. This broadcast signals a significant return for Luxembourg to Eurovision events, especially following its re-entry into the adult contest after a three-decade absence. Could this be a precursor to Luxembourg’s potential debut in the Junior Eurovision in the near future? Only time will tell…

More countries will broadcast the contest

In addition to Luxembourg, other non-participating countries will also air the contest. Lithuania and Montenegro are set to join Luxembourg in broadcasting the event, along with Croatia, a founding member of the contest and its first ever winner in 2003. These countries may be looking to reintroduce their audiences to the children’s contest, gauging interest for a possible return the next years.

It’s worth noting that countries like Cyprus and San Marino have also returned to the competition after several years away, indicating a growing interest in the Junior Eurovision format across Europe.

13. San Marino: Idols SM – “Come noi”
14. Ukraine: Artem Kotenko – “Hear Me Now”
15. Portugal: Victoria Nicole – “Esperança”
16. Ireland – Enya Cox Dempsey – “Le Chéile”
17. Malta: Ramires Sciberras – “Stilla ċkejkna”

The 22nd edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be held on November 16 in Madrid, Spain, following the country’s second-place finish last year and the refusal of the winning country, France, to host for the second year in a row. The slogan for this year’s contest is “Let’s Bloom!”, while Ruth Lorenzo, Marc Clotet and Melani Garcia will serve as this year’s hosts.
