General comment: Vocal issues were present in almost all of the participants’ performances. I do not think, however, that sound-mixing is something to blame. The artists themselves is were the problem arises.

Croatia: The results of Dora 2024 second semi-final!

The second semi-final of Dora, the Croatian national selection for Eurovision 2024, was just concluded. Dora remained for another year as the country’s national selection format, but it also saw the biggest changes in years.

Changed to the core, Dora 2024 is the first edition in thirteen years to feature semi-finals. A record of 203 entries were submitted to the Croatian broadcaster, out of which twenty-four were advanced to the semi-finals’ stage.

In total, two semi-finals of twelve will take place, while eight acts from each semi-final will advance to the Grand Final, scheduled for February 25.

Hosted by Duško ČurlićMaja Ciglenečki and Anja Cerar, the second semi-final took place tonight, with the following twelve acts competing for a spot in the Final:

  1. Lu Dedić – Plavi leptir
  2. James Night – NEBO PLAČE
  3. Lara Demarin – Ne vjerujem ti
  4. Alen Đuras – A Tamburitza Lullaby
  5. The Splitters – Od kad te sanjam
  6. Boris Štok – Can We Talk
  7. Baby Lasagna – RIM TIM TAGI DIM
  8. ET – Pametnom dosta
  9. Vatra – Slatke suze, gorka ljubav
  10. Damir KedžoVoljena ženo

The second semi-final of Dora 2024 – in detail

1. Lu Dedić – Plavi leptir

Lu is the first one to take the stage today. Her song is in Croatian. Although, I liked the water-themed inspiration, the overall performance was quite flat.

2. James Night – NEBO PLAČE

Not a bad performance. Energetic, but in equal terms chaotic.

3. Lara Demarin – Ne vjerujem ti

It was not necessarily bad. Far more interesting than anything I have seen at Dora so far. While it feels modern, it also sounds somehow dated. The performance was good and her attitude was on point, regardless I could not understand a single word.

4. Alen Đuras – A Tamburitza Lullaby

A greek sound for Croatia? Interesting. A solid performance -for the Dora standards- overall.\

5. The Splitters – Od kad te sanjam

In Eurovision, it would finish dead last in the semi-final. I think this concludes everything.

6. Boris Štok – Can We Talk

While, Boris seems like a great singer, the song is below his own standards. It is not necessarily bad, however.

7. Baby Lasagna – RIM TIM TAGI DIM

The big favorite of Dora 2024 is on stage. Baby Lasagna got us all wondering how he was not initially selected as a Dora participant. The performance was quite interesting. However, it needs to be massively elevated for the Eurovision stage. By far, the best we have seen this year in Dora.

8. ET – Pametnom dosta

Not sure how to feel for it. It was entertaining, at least.

9. Vatra – Slatke suze, gorka ljubav

A solid performance, yet an outdated song.

10. Damir Kedžo – Voljena ženo

I never liked any of his entries in Dora. However, I have to admit, he is undoubtedly a vocal powerhouse. I don’t think he has any chance in Eurovision, but I would be happy if I saw him win Dora.

11. Natalie Balmix – Dijamanti

Shiny. Like really shiny. Was not convinced of her performance. Vocally, not really good either. Especially in the song’s finale.

12. MARCELA – Gasoline

Fiery. Her outfit choice was not quite there. Not a fan of the song either.

Following the conclusion of the participants’ performances, Raiven, the Slovenian representative in Eurovision 2024, took the stage. Raiven performed some of her songs, including her Eurovision entry “Veronika”.

The results

Following the voting of the public audience exclusively, the following eight acts qualified for the Grand Final of Dora 2024:

  • Alen Đuras – “A Tamburitza Lullaby
  • Natalie Balmix – “Dijamanti
  • Vatra – “Slatke suze, gorka ljubav
  • Damir Kedžo – “Voljena ženo
  • Lara Demarin – “Ne vjerujem ti
  • Baby Lasagna – “RIM TIM TAGI DIM
  • MARCELA – “Gasoline
  • Boris Štok – “Can We Talk

Betting Odds Reshuffled with Ukraine Leading the Pack!

With less than a month remaining until the official release of all entries for the 68th Eurovision Song Contest, we are entering the most crucial month of the pre-Eurovision period, with national finals multiplying week by week.

For this reason, one of Eurovisionfun’s most beloved and talked-about columns returns, with betting analyses for Eurovision 2024 back in action.

While you prepare for the pivotal weeks ahead with the revelations of most entries ahead of May, bookmakers have already been hard at work, with the winner section of Eurovision 2024 already being offered by some companies. So, let’s take this opportunity and present to you what we know so far for the next contest.

Ukraine Emerges as the Top Favorite

As mentioned earlier, February is the month of most national finals, and understandably, this has caused reshuffles in the betting tables. Far ahead in the first position sits Ukraine. The Eastern European country, which has consistently topped the betting odds in recent weeks, is considered the major favorite by bookmakers to win in Malmo.

The triumph of Alyona Alyona & Jerry Heil at Vidbir, where they “flattened” their competition, has skyrocketed the odds for Ukraine to win the 68th Eurovision Song Contest. At the moment, a Ukrainian victory returns up to 3.8 times the bet.

Italy has now risen to the second position. Angelina Mango’s victory with “La Noia” at the San Remo Festival has put the Mediterranean country in a particularly advantageous position, with bookmakers considering it the second most likely winner at the moment. Italy’s odds range from 7.5 to 10.

Croatia Takes the Third Spot

Croatia now sits in third place. The release of the video clip for Baby Lasagna’s entry, considered the major favorite to represent the Balkans in Malmo, has propelled Croatia to third place, just a breath away from second-placed Italy. Croatia’s victory is currently bet on odds ranging between 8 and 10.

In the fourth position is Sweden. The host country of the 68th Eurovision Song Contest is once again considered one of the big favorites of this year’s competition, with SVT executives and Swedish Eurofans eager for the historic eighth victory to take place on Swedish soil. A victory for Sweden is offered at odds between 11 and 15, showing a slight increase compared to our last analysis.

Rounding up the top five is Belgium. The recent release of “Before the Party’s Over” by Mustii seems to have thrilled betting companies, placing the Western European country within the Top 5 for the first time during this Eurovision season. Belgium’s victory is bet on odds between 10 and 15, just below the fourth position.

Top 10

In sixth place with clearly declining trends is the United Kingdom. Olly Alexander’sDizzy” teaser seems to have neither thrilled nor convinced bookmakers, who have now placed the United Kingdom outside the top five. It’s a significant drop, with the UK’s victory now returning up to 15 times the bet.

From there onwards, deviations from the group of leading six countries begin. Thus, in seventh place is Norway, whose victory now returns up to 21 times the bet. Similar odds are found for Iceland in seventh place, awaiting the second semifinal of the national selection, where Bashar Murad, of Palestinian descent, competes.

Lithuania follows in eighth place, which has returned to the top ten after Silvester Belt’s selection with “Luktelk“. Odds range between 17 and 21. France has returned to the top ten after a long time, with Slimane, whose potential victory triples the bet placed on it. Finally, Switzerland completes the Top 10, with odds ranging between 23 and 34.

Croatia: The results of Dora 2024 first semi-final!

The first semi-final of Dora, the Croatian national selection for Eurovision 2024, was just concluded.

Hosted by Duško Čurlić, Maja Ciglenečki and Anja Cerar, the first semi-final took place tonight, with the following twelve acts competing for a spot in the Final:

  1. Noelle – Baby, Baby
  2. Mario Battifiaca feat. Robert Ferlin Vodu piti trizan biti
  3. Stefany Žužić – Sretnih dana dat’ će Bog
  4. MISHA One Day
  5. Erna – How Do You Love Me
  6. eugen Tišine
  7. Vinko – Lying Eyes
  8. Barbara Munjas Nepobjediva
  9. Let 3 – Baba Roga
  10. Lana Mandarić – More
  11. Pavel – TO THE MOON
  12. Saša Lozar – Ne plačem zbog nje

The first semi-final of Dora 2024 – in detail

1. Noelle – Baby, Baby

The First Semi-Final was opened by Noelle, with a rhythmic song in Croatian. She is accompanied on stage by four female dancers, all dressed in black. Vocal issues are present.

2. Mario Battifiaca feat. Robert Ferlin – Vodu piti trizan biti

It’s time for Mario Battifiaca feat. Robert Ferlin. Another song in Croatian. The presentation is dark, while they are dressed in red. Not the best presentation.

3. Stefany Žužić – Sretnih dana dat’ će Bog

Stefany, dressed in white, is accompanied by four dancers. A lot of effects and dry ice on stage. She sounds out of rythym.

4. MISHA – One Day

A bad start vocally-wise for MISHA. The performance reminds of Eurovision. I don’t know if the afore-mentioned is positive, though.

5. Erna – How Do You Love Me

Erna is solo on stage. Atmospheric setting. Vocally, she also seems to face some sound issues.

6. Eugen – Tišine

A ballad in Croatian for Eugen. He starts acapella. A dark setting here too. However, he looks quite awkward on stage and he struggles vocally.

7. Vinko – Lying Eyes

Everything is dark here too. He is on stage accompanied by a girl and a piano. Use of dry ice again.

8. Barbara Munjas – Nepobjediva

Feels like Konstrakta. However, a parody of Konstrakta, as it looks as a joke entry to a non Croatian.

9. Let 3 – Baba Roga

Ok, not a fan of Let 3. However, I respect them for bringing a good result for Croatia. What i admire the most, is how they managed to return with a performance weirder than their previous one. I don’t like it. It feels like a circus to me.

10. Lana Mandarić – More

Something really pleasant, for both ears and eyes, following Let 3. Not the best song nor performance, though.

11. Pavel – TO THE MOON

Feels like ABBA. A little bit dated, but it’s not bad overall.

12. Saša Lozar – Ne plačem zbog nje

This also feels dated. That’s all.

Following the conclusion of the performances, Slimane, the French representative in Eurovision 2024, took the stage and performed several of his hits along “Mon Amour“.

The results

Following the voting of the public audience exclusively, the following eight acts qualified for the Grand Final of Dora 2024:

  • Pavel – “TO THE MOON
  • Vinko – “Lying Eyes
  • eugen – “Tišine”
  • Mario Battifiaca feat. Robert Ferlin – “Vodu piti trizan biti
  • Stefany Žužić – “Sretnih dana dat’ će Bog
  • Saša Lozar – “Ne plačem zbog nje
