Israel: The lyrics in question from Eden Golan’s Eurovision 2024 entry!

According to Israeli media reports in recent days, KAN has decided on “October Rain” as the country’s Eurovision entry for 2024. Given the ongoing situation in the Gaza Strip, protests throughout Europe, and the contest’s regulations, KAN contacted the EBU to determine whether the song’s lyrics are considered political or not.

The song’s lyrics are currently being reviewed by the EBU, with the fear of being disqualified due to the political overtones, which can also be seen in the song’s title.

The lyrics in question

According to Israel Hayom, “October Rain” is mostly written in English, while the last lines are in Hebrew and go as following:

There’s no air left to breathe.

No place, no me from day to day.

Meanwhile, the song ends with this lyric:

They were all good children each one of them.

Not only the finale of the song can be considered political, but also several other lyrics, such as:

Evening. Everything is black and white. Who is the fool. Who told you boys don’t cry. Hours and hours and flowers. Life is not a game for the cowards…

While time goes by. Every day I’m losing my mind, Holding on

It is worth noticing that the world “Flowers” is used among IDF soldiers referring to fallen soldiers in battle.

Israel – in fear of withdrawal

Although, EBU has not made an official decision yet, KAN does not consider changing the song. According to Israeli, “October Rain” is not political, it simply expresses the feelings of the people and the country in these times. Withdrawing will be the only choice for Israel in case “October Rain” is disqualified.

Croatia: Tonight the First Semi-Final of Dora 2024!

With momentum from a rapid rise in the betting odds, Croatia kicks off tonight the process of selecting its representative for the 68th Eurovision Song Contest. In a few hours from now, the first semi-final of Dora 2024 will take place in Zagreb.

Format

The Croatian national final will be held over three separate nights, with two semi-finals on February 22 and 23, and the grand final on February 25.

Twelve artists will participate in each of the two semi-finals, with a total of sixteen artists (eight from each semi-final) earning their ticket to Sunday’s grand final. The sixteen finalists will be determined exclusively by the votes of Croatian viewers.

In the event of a tie between the audience and the jury, the song with the most votes from the audience will be the winner.

Furthermore, the jury will no longer consist solely of domestic professionals and music enthusiasts. Instead, the Croatian song for the Eurovision Song Contest will be selected by four Croatian committees (from the centers of HRT Zagreb, Split, Rijeka, and Osijek), as well as four committees from abroad. The international committees will come from Iceland, Ukraine, Italy, and Germany. Each jury will have three members and will consist of music critics, music journalists, composers, and producers.

France: Slimane is in the studio for the English version of “Mon Amour”!

Slimane, the French representative in Eurovision 2024, revealed that he is in the studio preparing an English version for his entry “Mon Amour“.

It is unknown whether the English version of “Mon Amour” will be performed on the Eurovision stage or it will just be released as an alternative version of the song. The latter is the most likely scenario.

Slimane was internally selected by France Télévisions and his entry “Mon Amour” was revealed back in Νovember, being the first Eurovision 2024 entry to be released.

Who is Slimane?

Slimane Nebchi is 34 years old and is of Algerian origin. He won The Voice of France in 2016 and ever since his career has exploded. His four studio albums have all reached the first place in the french charts and he has also charted in other countries’ charts. He was a coach in the Voice of Belgium. He has also participated in musicals and some films as an actor, while he is also a philanthropist.

The artist is probably the biggest name to represent France in the Eurovision Song Contest for many years. As the head of french delegation, Alexandra Redde-Amiel said, France is heading for the trophy.

The afore-mentioned aim is also reflected in charts. Impressively, for French standards, Slimane’s “Mon Amour” has been charting for months on the French Spotify list.

France, as a member of the BIG 5, is automatically qualified to the Grand Final of May 11, while the viewers will be able to cast their votes on the second semi-final.
