Eurostars:Sergey’s back again?

Last Tuesday “Victoria” music awards took place in Kremlin and among all the famous Russian stars, Sergey Lazarev was there as well. During red carpet, the artist was asked by dni.ru if he still wants to take revenge and bring ESC back to Russia!

“I can still impress, I have something to show. I have many qualities, including musical ones, which I maybe didn’t demonstrate at competitions in 2016 and 2019,” Sergey smiled. “I don’t exclude the possibility of going to Eurovision once again, but I declare with all responsibility: this will definitely not happen in 2020.”

As for now, Sergey is getting ready for a new grand show and its premiere is scheduled for the spring of 2021.

Next year, Channel One will be in charge of the selection of the participant for the competition. As always there are rumors that Alexander Panayotov, Olga Buzova or Zivert can represent Russia. But Sergey has a different point of view.

“In my opinion, should take part a new name, a new artist. I wouldn’t like to point out someone specifically, so not to be accused of partiality.”

Would you like to see Sergey again to Eurovision stage?

Russia: Direct assignment for Eurovision 2020

Not surprisingly, it has now been announced that Russia will be selecting its representative internally for the Eurovision Song Contest for another year.

In 2012 we had to go for the last national final of Russia, when Buranovskiye Babushk, the grandmothers, managed to win Dima Bilan and then came second in the contest, which was held in Baku, Azerbaijan that year.

As Iurii Aksiuta, a Eurovision commentator for Channel One, revealed on Instagram Story, Russia is in the midst of an artist selection for Eurovision 2020 a after the end of Junior Eurovision 2019 on Sunday night!

Some names have already been heard: Olga Buzova, Alexander Panayotov and Dima Bilan, who wants to return for the third time. Olga Buzova is a television personality who, a few months ago, invited Philipp Kirkorov to sing together at the next Eurovision, while Alexander Panayotov has been trying to compete at ESC since 2005, but still holds the second place in all the national finals!

Russia: Return of Dima Bilan to the Eurovision stage?

Eurovision 2008 winner Dima Bilan has stated in a interview to Russian media that he wants to return to the contest for the third time after finishing 2nd in 2006 in Athens and his victory two years later in Belgrade.

Talking to a Russian television show, Bilan referred to the issue and argued that if Russian public broadcaster would organize a national final, he would be fully interested in representing his country once again. In contrast to the current system of internal selection, the Russian artist was openly in favor of conducting a national final with the public choosing the song and artist to represent the country at the institution.

The Russian state-run Channel One is expected to follow once again this year the tactics of the last years by internally selecting the artist to represent the country through direct assignment. The last time Russia held a national final was in 2012. Dima Bilan had also claimed his third appearance at the Eurovision competition, along with singer t.A.T.u. Julia Volkova. The duo, however, came in second place and Buranovskiye Babushki represented Russia in Baku.

Last year in Tel Aviv, Sergey Lazarev represented Russia with “Scream” for the second time, where he finished 3rd with 360 points, 6th ahead of 4th Switzerland.

Eng/Rus ‼️The time has come: Saturday 9 March at 16.00 CET we will release the Eurovision entry for Russia. I really hope you will all LOVE the song as much as I did from the first time I listened to it. This is a new journey for me and I am so excited for it. Thank you @fkirkorov not only for your contribution to the song, but most of all for being always there for me like a brother. True friendship exists in show business and you are the best example of this. Thank you @dimitriskontopoulos for this powerful melody, the great production and all of the hours of work you have spent for this song. @Sharon_Vaughn your words gave meaning to the melody. It’s an honor working with you and singing your lyrics. @moscow_symphony_orchestra your contribution gave a different meaning to the song. I am so glad that we managed to bring live orchestra back to eurovision, even in this way. @the_andrew_weed you are the best sound engineer I have ever worked with. @alexpanayi thank you for your patience, you are a true professional. Finally the biggest thanks goes to everyone in channel “Russia” for trusting me, for the second time, to represent our country. I promise you all to do my best in order to honor your decision. “Tears aren’t quiet things …” #sergeylazarev #сергейлазарев #eurovision2019 #Russia photo by @dvelichko ❤️

First of all, Sergey thanked his close friend Philipp Kirkorov for his constant support admitting that Philipp is a great example which proves that friendship exists at Show Business. Furthermore he didn’t forget to thank some of the Greek members of the “Dream Team”, the composer Dimitris Kontopoulos and the vocal coach Alex Panayi. Additionally, Sergey Lazarev didn’t only thank the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, but also dared to comment that they managed to bring live orchestra back to the Eurovision Song Contest in a way!

But the most important of all, is that we got to know the songwriter, who is the well-known in Eurovision fields Mary Sharon Vaugh. The American songwriter, who lives and works in Sweden, has already cooperated with some of the most popular Eurovision stars, like Mans Zelmerlow, Charlotte Perrelli, Jedward, Alcazar, Boyzone, etc. She also wrote Helena Paparizou’s song “Survivor”, which she competed at Melodifestivalen 2014 with.

Besides the making of the song, there are many other people who work for the best result the Russian delegation can bring. Some of them are the scene director Fokas Evagelinos and the project manager Ilias Kokotos.

The title of the song as it seems is “Scream”. Sergey revealed also a small part of the lyrics:

“Tears aren’t quiet things …”

Let’s not forget that Sergey’s reputation put Russia at the first place of the bookmarkers leaving his hard opponent, Sweden, at the second place with a growing difference. We only have to wait and see whether the song meet fans’ high expectations and let Russia keep being the leader at the odds.
