Bets: Italy is now the second-favorite to win Eurovision 2024 | Ukraine in the third place!

When it comes to Eurovision 2024 betting odds, the surprises do not stop from coming. However, there is no clear favorite to win this year’s edition, as Croatia, which currently sits in the first place of the betting odds, has not reached yet Loreen’s winning chances.

Angelina Mango is now the second-favorite to win Eurovision 2024, behind Croatia and Baby Lasagna, after Italy managed to knock out Ukraine and Alyona Alyona and Jerry Heil from the second place.

The country’s chances of winning Eurovision 2024 were enhanced by Angelina Mango’s performances on RAI, along with RAI’s decision to have their artist participate in a pre-party after years of absence. The aforementioned reflects the country’s strong interest in the competition.

The numerous changes we’ve seen this year at the betting odds indicate an exciting year in which we won’t know the winner right away, as we have in the previous two seasons. Given that, we’re probably in for a repeat of 2021, when things got clearer during rehearsals, as before there were three-four songs fighting in “equal terms” for the victory.

Angelina Mango is the Italian representative in Eurovision 2024 with her Sanremo-winning entry “La Noia“. Italy, as a member of the BIG FIVE, is automatically granted a spot in the Grand Final of May 11, while Angelina Mango will also present her entry during the second semi-final.

Italy: These are the lyrics of the three-minutes version of “La Noia”!

As it is already known, it is necessary for all the songs, of all the countries that participate in Eurovision Song Contest, not to last more than three (3) minutes in total. Thus, it is expected that every single song that lasts more than three minutes in advance, will go through some changes in the future regarding the overall duration.

Every year in the Contest there are multiple songs that have to undergo some processing in reducing or changing some of the lyrics in order to last exactly three minutes. This is what happens with Italy this year, while it was already known that Angelina Mango along with her team will change some of the lyrics of “La Noia“. Thus, the very final version of “La Noia” is the following:

Εικόνα

As it is already posted on the official account of ESC Discord on Twitter/X, the only alteration is happening during the second chorus, where the lyric of “È la cumbia de la noia” used to be repeated four times, now it is repeated only twice, making the song last exactly three minutes.

Have a watch to Mango’s performance of “La Noia” during the Second Night of the Festival di Sanremo 2024 and the reaction video of the Eurovisionfun’s team on Youtube:

The 68th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, scheduled from May 7th to May 11th at the Malmö Arena, will feature representatives from 37 countries. Among the plethora of artists who have represented Italy in 49 editions of the Eurovision Song Contest, Mango is the tenth female soloist to do so. She follows in the footsteps of esteemed artists such as Gigliola Cinquetti, Mia Martini, Franca Raimondi, Iva Zanicchi, Nina Zilli, Emma, and Francesca Michielin. Mango’s participation marks Italy’s bid to reclaim the title for the fourth time.

Geolier: “Angelina Mango rightfully won and I voted for her!”

Geolier, who secured the second place in this year’s Sanremo Festival, faced both applause and criticism at the Teatro Ariston. He encountered disapproval from the audience when it was announced that he was leading in the overall rankings just before the final began, and also when he won on the night of the covers. Despite this, he made a comeback with new statements, speaking about the fair victory of Angelina Mango, as well as the criticism he received for his attire on the green carpet of Teatro Ariston.

For his first official appearance at Sanremo, the rapper wore a tracksuit from Naples, his favorite team. However, he was approached by a staff member of the Festival, who negatively commented on the sports tracksuit worn by the singer. Later, the same person passed him a sticker to cover the logo of Napoli, which the singer tore off.

“I speak the language of the neighborhoods, the Neapolitan of the people. Mahmood, Fred de Palma, and I were there; they whistled anyway: they weren’t against me. Angelina had to win. She did something spectacular. And I voted for her. Then I gave myself the other four votes for safety. Why did I win the cover night? Because it proves that when Naples commits itself, there is nothing for anyone: it becomes a chain! No one else has that, no city,” said Geolier.

At the start of the final evening, Amadeus revealed the general ranking up to that moment. Geolier was first, winning every night thanks to the televoting, in which he received huge percentages. However, he ultimately took the second place, as he was rated very low by both journalists and radio representatives.

For the record, Geolier was the artist who received the highest percentages in the televoting, while also receiving the fewest votes from the judging panels. However, history will write that he took second place and that Angelina Mango was the winner of the festival and the representative of Italy at Eurovision 2024.

RAI: Considerations for Selecting Eurovision Representative from Sanremo via International Committee!

The lights went out at the Teatro Ariston for the triumphant 74th edition of the Sanremo Festival, with 1.5 million more viewers tuning in compared to last year to watch the grand final on RAI1. Shortly before, the RAI press conference, hosted by Amadeus and three past winners, concluded with the confirmation from Angelina Mango that she would represent Italy at Eurovision 2024. However, there was another significant development regarding Sanremo’s role in selecting Italy’s Eurovision representative.

Separation of Sanremo Winner and Eurovision Representation from 2025?

During the press conference, Amadeus was asked if, during his years as host and artistic director of the festival, he ever considered using an international committee to select the most suitable artist and song to represent Italy at Eurovision.

While Amadeus answered negatively, the response from RAI officials was different, indicating that it is something they will consider for the next year.

The above response was obviously prompted by this year’s events, particularly the near-victory of Geolier with a song widely acknowledged as having no chance at Eurovision, while there were several songs at Sanremo that would have performed much better. Furthermore, Sanremo serves incidentally as Italy’s national final, and the voting criteria of both the audience, journalists, and radio representatives do not necessarily align with Eurovision representation.

So, the question is reasonable, and RAI‘s answer is also sensible, perhaps believing that disconnecting the Sanremo winner from Eurovision representation and selecting the artist who will represent Italy in the competition may yield even better results, especially in a year like this one.

RAI‘s Mammoth Revenues and Viewership

The Sanremo final ended with massive television ratings for RAI, surpassing last year’s by a significant margin. Specifically, an average of 74.1% of viewers, totaling 14,301,000, tuned in, compared to 66% and 12,256,000 viewers last year.

The moment with the highest viewership was during Amadeus‘s humorous sketch with Fiorello, with over 18,000,000 viewers watching RAI1, and the peak share reached 85.26% during the announcement of the top 5 results.

RAI‘s revenue from advertising during the five days of the festival was €60,182,000, far exceeding the expenses incurred by the Italian public broadcaster for Sanremo, proving that creating something so remarkable yields commensurate returns.

Amadeus‘s Future at Sanremo and His Possible Successor

Amadeus revealed that in two weeks, he will meet with RAI for a general assessment of Sanremo 2024. He did not clarify whether there would be any discussion about extending their collaboration into 2025. However, the name of a possible successor to Amadeus as host and artistic director of the festival has already been circulating in the press.

That person is the former politician and long-time popular Italian television host, Gerry Scotti. A few days earlier, Amadeus and Gerry Scotti had dinner, discussing the Sanremo Festival. The only issue for him to take on this significant role is that he belongs to the dynamics of private television and would need to resolve any outstanding issues there.

Of course, all of the above will make sense if Amadeus steps down and does not remain in his position in 2025. In that case, Amadeus will be the longest-serving host and artistic director of Sanremo.

Stay tuned for all the developments!
