After qualifying for this year’s final in Sweden’s Melodifestivalen 2022, Cornelia Jakobs speaks exclusively to EurovisionFun members Apostolos Bogiannos and Apostolis Matamis.
Cornelia is one of the twelve finalists in Melodifestivalen 2022 and will try to represent Sweden at Eurovision 2022 with the song “Hold Me Closer”. This is her third attempt overall but her first as a solo artist, since in 2011 and 2012 she took part in the national final of the country as a member of the women’s band Love Generation.
Although it remains the same competition as when I took part as a student, the main difference is that as a solo artist for the last five years I feel safer and more confident, more authentic. A very good friend of mine encouraged me to take part this year. At first I was hesitant but finally realized that Melodifestivalen is the perfect opportunity to start doing my own thing to the world, showing one of my performances on TV. I wrote “Hold Me Closer” last August, at a time of a break up during which I was emotionally charged and my feelings, thoughts and situations were very intense. It’s a little unpleasant, I know. We wrote a lot of songs then and I had said that if I found what I felt was the right one, I would submit it. So it happened.
She states that she is completely satisfied with her appearance in the first semifinal and happy for her qualification to the final, while she is not planning particularly big changes in terms of her stage appearance in Saturday’s final.
There will be small changes to the glitter on my clothes and the stage lights. In the semifinal there were quite a few technical problems with the lighting and the appearance did not have everything we needed. It was good anyway, but in the final there will be more.
Among the rest of the participating songs, she says that those of Anna Bergendahl and Lisa Miskovsky stand out to her the most.
Her favorite Swedish Eurovision entry is that of Carola (2006), while from the competition in general she especially mentions Lordi (Finland 2006) and Måneskin (Italy 2021), whom she would choose if she chose a eurostar to work with.
It would be my pleasure and honor to represent Sweden at Eurovision. That is the best thing that could happen to me right now.
Just before the end of the interview, Cornelia sang us a part of her participation a capella!

(Video)
The rapidly spreading Omicron COVID19 variant and all the latest measures imposed by governments in most countries around the world could not leave Eurovision related events unaffected.
Thus, a few minutes ago, after SVT has gone into several crisis meetings in order to come to a decision, they announced from their official Melodifestivalen accounts on all social media, that the whole selection process of all the semi-finals and the grand final will exclusively be held in Stockholm.
This decision contradicts what SVT has originally planned, for the selection process to return to their usual tours this year.
All six shows will be crowded, as it seems, according to the Swedish health authorities’ guidelines for indoor gatherings.
