Cyprus: RIK and artistic team are in feverish preparations!

Τhe Cypriot team is doing some major preparations, as they want to have everything prepared ahead of time for the 68th Eurovision Song Contest, wanting to present the most competitive and professional entry possible, once more.

The Song is Reaching Its Final Form

The song with which Silia Kapsis wil represent Cyprus in Eurovision 2024 is almost ready to shine, as its just some steps before the Final Mixing. The previous weeks, Dimitris Kontopoulos finalised the production of the song, in a famous studio abroad, along his colleagues. The song has become even more dynamic, in order to make the most out of Silia’s dancing and vocal skills, and make the greatest impression on stage.

Kelly Sweeney and Guy Groove started making the Choreography

The famous choreographers that RIK selected to be on Silia’s side in the contest, have already received the song and are now in a creative phase. According to our information, they were excited by the song, and by having already worked with Silia in the past, they know what she is capable of, so they’re making a choreography of great demands, in order to make the track shine on stage.

Right after Christmas, Silia is going to Los Angeles, where she is going to stay for about a week, for the first rehearsals with her choreographers.

Impressive LEDs for Silia’s performance

Except for the choreography, the artistic team is preparing the LEDs that will accompany Silia’s performance in our screens. The concept is already in the making, and in the coming days, the Ukrainian company that also made the LEDs of Stefania and Amanda in the past, will be in charge of developing everything.

What we can say, as of now, is that the LEDs will be a major part in Silia’s performance and we are sure that even the most skeptical viewer will be mesmerised by the result.

What’s Coming next?

Immediately after her trip to Los Angeles, Silia Kapsis will return to Cyprus for some interviews, but also to shoot the music vdeo, which thiswill take place exclusively on the island this time. After the end of the filming of the music video, she is coming for a permanent stay in Greece, where she will make some more appearences in the media of our country. The song is expected to be released at the end of February/beginning of March, of course through RIK.

Silia will stay in Athens until the beginning of May, for the latest rehearsals until the contest.

The Cypriot delegation continues with a well-organized plan, their preparations for Eurovision 2024, always keeping a low profile, but hoping that it will manage to impress and find themselves even higher in the ranking table, higher than the 12th place, of the impressive Andrew Lambrou last year.

Cyprus: The artist will be revealed next week!

No matter if Belgium “caught up” faster with the artist announcement for Eurovision 2024, the Cypriot Broadcaster is almost ready for the official announcement of the artist that will represent the country in next year’s contest. The announcement will take place next week and we will get to know the second artist that will fly to Malmö, barring anything unforeseen.

As you first read through EurovisionFun, RIK, after the inglorious end of Fame Story as a selection method for the representative of Cyprus in the contest, the broadcaster directly put forward the backup plan they had already planned. Thus, both the artist and the song will be selected by an internal selection in which Cyprus will participate in the 68th Eurovision Song Contest.

Everything is ready, even some pending procedures have been resolved and so it’s a matter of time for the official announcement of RIK. Although, the announcement will not only include the artist reveal but we do not want to spoil anything further and ruin the suprise of the Cypriot delegation, where they hope for a good result, even higher than the last attempt with Andrew Lambrou who ended up in the 12th place with the song “Break A Broken Heart”.

However, the preperation of the Cypriot delegation for Malmö has been already intesive, having started their planning even for the stage presence.

A few more days of patience and soon all our questions will be answered!

Cyprus: RIK replied to EBU regarding Fame Story! | Full confirmation for Eurovisionfun!

Our exclusive article on Cyprus is now fully confirmed by Grigoris Melas’ article on Newsit. According to his article, RIK (CyBC) following the teleconference with ERT and the EBU moved on by sending a reply letter in which they revealed that they are going to choose their next representative for the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest through an internal selection process, while official announcement are scheduled for the very near future, information that posted first by Eurovisionfun.

RIK’s reply to EBU

Since the latest developments are a deterrent to the realization of the Fame Story together with the Cypriot representation as a prize, RIK proceeded with a reply letter to the EBU in which, according to the information of Grigoris Melas, it is clarified that it is immediately proceeding with an internal selection process, with the announcements coming very soon, so that there is no misunderstanding with ERT that the artist that will be selected will be someone from Fame Story.

Fame Story follows a separate course

Despite the disconnection of the Fame Story show with the 68th Eurovision Song Contest, its preparations are going on as per schedule. The auditions will start in due time.

The new trailer of the show is already aired and it has no reference to the Cypriot representation as a prize neither on TV nor on the Star Channel and the Fame Story official sites.

The upcoming talent show is not even going to be aired by CyBC but instead by the private Cypriot channel OMEGA, the channel which Star Channel collaborates with in Cyprus.

Artist announcement soon

As you have already read first on Eurovisionfun, RIK lost no time and found the artist who is going to represent Cyprus at Eurovision 2024.

We will officially get to know their identity and the first insight on the Cypriot participation in Malmö in due time. People of the Cypriot delegation are optimistic that next year Cyprus will achieve a better result than this year’s 12th place in the grand final with Andrew Lambrou.

EXCLUSIVE: Teleconference between ERT, RIK and EBU for the conflict solution!

The updates are rapid on the issue regarding the conflict between ERT and RIK because of the hosting of the Fame Story reality show by the latter, in collaboration with PANIK Records, STAR Channel and Barking Well Media. The gap remains open and for this reason, according to our exclusive information, a teleconference is about to be held by the EBU the coming days, in order the situation to be discussed by the two sides and a solution to be found.

The story

The conflict between the two public broadcasters emerged after RIK decided to collaborate with Barking Well Media company of Nikos Koklonis, the Star Channel (private broadcaster) and the PANIK RECORDS for the organisation of the reality show named Fame Story, which will be broadcast simultaneously in Greece by Star Channel and in Cyprus by RIK.

The relevant trailer of the aforementioned show, in which despite that Eurovision is not mentioned as the award but Europe’s biggest music contest, was the last straw for ERT, which considers that their exclusive rights on the competition in Greece are violated.

The EBU after the request of the current ERT’s administration by Mr Constantinos Zoulias proceed with an update of the regulations regarding the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest which were sent to all members.

Fame Story’s complicity?

The new regulations enacted by the EBU, after ERT’s intervention, impede the realization of the talent show, at least as far as the representation of Cyprus at the 68th Eurovision Song Contest as the award, just as it is implied by the relevant trailer still broadcast by the Star Channel.

EBU’s intervention

After the publication of the relevant trailer, the EBU, in a letter, asked RIK to clarify the details regarding Fame Story and whether the realization of this show in Greece, by a private television station, violates the above mentioned regulations of the upcoming music competition .

Of course, this intervention was not accidental at all, just like the revision of the competition regulations, but it came after the protests of ERT, whose exclusivity in the television and commercial exploitation of Eurovision in Greece is being violated, an exclusivity for which it spends approximately 360,000 Euro per year.

RIK “announces” national selection in Nicosia

As you first read from Eurovision Fun (here), RIK sent a reply letter to the EBU in which it claims that Fame Story is not a national final, but a talent show, which it will integrate into its entertainment program.

It is also reported that for Eurovision 2024 RIK will choose its representative through internal selection, as it has been doing in recent years. The artist selection will be done through new talent that will emerge from both Fame Story and other young and talented artists.

Finally, it is emphasized in this letter, that the final selection of the song will take place in January 2024 through a televised show, which will take place in Nicosia. All of this, of course, as you understand, contradicts what Nikos Koklonis revealed on air, in his various interviews, and is also included in the Fame Story promo trailer.

In this way, the RIK considers that it can overcome the legal issue that has arisen after the update of the Eurovision 2024 regulations, and now they are awaiting the EBU’s response.

Teleconference for a solution

All the same there is still hope for a possible solution. Representatives of ERT and RIK will meet in a teleconference organized by the EBU in order to discuss the essence of the dispute and to seek some point of contact.

The above means that at least by the time of writing of this very article, both sides are sticking to their positions. The possible representation of Cyprus by the winner or an artist from Fame Story and the refusal of ERT to accept the television and commercial exploitation of the competition by a private television station in Greece.

The aforementioned teleconference is expected within the next days.

Cyprus: Problems with the 2024 Eurovision selection “Fame Story”?

CyBC, the Cypriot Public Broadcaster confirmed a few months ago that the country will take part in Eurovision 2024 and the artist will be chosen through the talent show “Fame Story“, which will be produced and broadcasted from Greece, in collaboration with Greek private broadcaster Star Channel.

However, according to an article on Politis.com, there are problems regarding the selection of the representative through the show and the broadcasting rights of the contest, which in Greece are owned exclusively by ERT, the Greek Public Broadcaster.

The problem seems to revolve around the intention of RIK (CyBC) to choose the next Cypriot Eurovision representative through Fame Story, a talent show that will be broadcasted on STAR in Greece and RIK in Cyprus. This has become a point of contention for ERT because, according to the EBU’s regulations, the exclusive rights for Eurovision in each country belong to the public broadcaster of that country.

Therefore, if ERT does not grant written permission for Fame Story (as long as it awards the prize of representing Cyprus in Eurovision 2024), there is a real risk, as mentioned in the Politis article, of Cyprus’ participation in the upcoming competition being in jeopardy.

The Cypriot Public Broadcaster is reportedly considering not using Fame Story as the national selection and choosing its representative through a different process to avoid problems in its relationship with the EBU and risking its participation in the 68th Eurovision Song Contest.

The trailer of Fame Story is still being broadcasted on Star Channel up until the moment this article is written.

Eurovisionfun will follow closely all the developments on the issue, stay tuned!

Cyprus: The surprise with Andrew Lambrou’s stage presentation in Liverpool!

Andrew Lambrou is in Athens, where together with the Cypriot delegation, as well as the PANIK Records team, he is in feverish preparations ahead of his participation in Eurovision 2023.

Filming for the video clip

Eurovisionfun got in touch with the people of the Cypriot delegation and we bring you all the latest information. First let’s say that the main reason for Andrew Lambrou’s visit to Athens is the filming of the video clip. While the initial plans wanted RIK to release the Cypriot entry at the end of January, the presidential elections moved any developments back a bit. So, in the next period of time, the filming of the video clip will take place, which according to our information will include both exterior and interior shots.

The director of the video clip will be Giorgos Benioudakis, who has to his credit many collaborations with almost all the popular Greek artists (A. Rammos, K. Argyros, L. Giorkas, S. Rokkos, Claudia, El. Foureira, etc. .).

The surprise with the stage presentation

The surprise held by the Cypriot delegation and coming to turn things around quite a bit are the persons who will be responsible for Andrew Lambrou’s stage presentation in Liverpool.

What we already knew is that this year Marvin Dietmann has taken over as the artistic director of the Cypriot participation for a third time in a row. But the twist we are talking about above is that this time he will not be alone.

Andrew Lambrou’s stage presentation at the M&S Bank Arena will be curated by both Marvin Dietmann and Ross Nicholson from London’s world-renowned directing team, Black Skull!

This group took on directing very large projects and great artists. One of her last jobs was Marco Mengoni’s concert at San Siro, the biggest concert venue in Italy!

When will we hear the song?

At the end of February, the suspense ends, since RIK and PANIK Records plan to publicize this year’s Cypriot song with the simultaneous release of the video clip.

The Cypriot participation hopes for a good result in this year’s contest, while slowly the country is gaining ground in the betting table, which they hope will continue even after the release of the song.

Today at the offices of PANIK Records we had the first meeting of the two representatives of Greece and Cyprus in the Eurovision contest, since for the first time since 2018 the artists representing the two countries belong to the same record label.

Stay tuned at Eurovisionfun for all the updates!

Andrew Lambrou gave an interview to Melina Karageorgiou, in CyBC’s central newscast. Andrew was really excited for his first time in Cyprus, right after the recording of his song, he continues preparations for Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool. This year we won’t have to wait a lot, as according to his saying, the Cypriot entry will be published in January!

As it seems, we are going to listen Cyprus’ entry for 2023, much earlier than usual. The song with which Andrew Lambrou will represent the country in Eurovision 2023 will be published in January!

After finishing the recording of his song the previous days in Stockholm and signing with PANIK Records in Athens, Andrew is now in Cyprus, where he is invited on many Cypriot TV shows, while of course preparing for the contest.

Being here in Cyprus makes me feel like home, I’m really close to my legacy… it is amazingrepresenting Cyprus in Eurovision! It’s a dream for me! I love Eurovision, since I was a kid.

Andrew’s goal is to make all Cypriots proud. As for his song, Andrew seems excited and is looking forward to show it to the public:

When I first listened to my song I knew it was unique… And then I was in Sweden, I had an amazing recording session in the studio and I’m really happy with what we did.

In addition to his preparations for the contest, Andrew is also doing intensive Greek lessons!

We remind you that the Cypriot song for Eurovision 2023 is composed by these creators, all of them having a great amount of experience in the contest:

  • Thomas Stengaard : Denmark 2013, Germany 2018, Germany 2019, San Marino 2021, Cyprus 2021, Azerbaijan 2022

Andrew Lambrou: With which country is the singer in discussions for Eurovision 2023?

We promised you last night, through our social media, some really interesting news! And we aspire to always deliver! So, here it is: Andrew Lambrou, an Australian singer of Cypriot origin, is in discussions with a country for Eurovision 2023.

“Until we know what’s happening with Eurovision”

Due to the summer idleness and lack of news, we decided to get in touch with artists who were candidates for this year’s national finals, to see where they are now, what they are up to or if they would be interested in participating again in ESC.

One of the artists we interviewed was Andrew Lambrou, who attempted to represent Australia at Eurovision 2022, taking part in the national final Australia Decides with the song Electrify – eventually coming seventh out of eleven candidates.

So, we contacted him and he agreed to do the interview, referring us to his manager to arrange the details of the interview. After having agreed on day and time with his manager, Timothy Youngson, we were waiting for the final “ok”.

However, on Sunday evening, we received an e-mail in which it was essentially confirmed that the artist is in discussions for Eurovision 2023, and that his team decided to wait for the final outcome of these discussions, before giving an interview!

Which country is Andrew Lambrou in discussions with?

Of course, the question that arises now is which country is Andrew Lambrou in discussions with. There are, we believe, two possible scenarios.

Australia

The first possible scenario is that the young expatriate artist is discussing a return to Australia Decides, the country’s national final for the ESC.

He might not have managed to get the ticket for the Competition this year, but Andrew Lambrou left a positive impression upon the eurofans, and not a few of them would like to see him try again.

Cyprus

The second possible scenario is of course Cyprus. CYBC very recently signed a new agreement with PANIK, according to which their cooperation in Eurovision is extended for at least two more years. In fact, it was announced that for 2023 they will once again select the artist internally, while for 2024 they will hold ,together with Nikos Kokloni’s production company, “All Together Now”, for the selection of the country’s representative.

So, it would not come as a surprise if the Cypriot delegation and PANIK are already in discussion with the artist’s team, in order for the latter to represent the country in the next competition. Andrew Lambrou may not be part of PANIK’s team (after all he lives and works in Australia), but this is not a problem since something similar happened back in 2020, with PANIK records taking over Sandro merely for the Eurovision project.

Who is Andrew Lambrou

Andrew Lambrou is 24 years old, who lives and works in Sydney. He performs and writes his own songs since the age of five.

At the age of just 17, he impressed all four X Factor judges, who easily got him through to the next stage. Having received great feedback from the four big names sitting in the judges’ seats  (Danii Minogue, James Blunt, Chris Isaak, Guy Sebastian). Andrew got through the first round with four ‘YES’, performing his rendition of Nick Jonas’ song “Chains”.

In the second phase, the 5 seat challenge, the coach of the Boys under 25 team, Chris Isaak, was asked to choose only five out of the boys to go through. Andrew sang “Ain’t nobody” by Chaka Khan and achieved a Top 5 spot.

It is worth noting that Andrew Lambrou became known well before his participation on X-Factor, due to his YouTube Channel, where he uploads various covers of popular (mostly pop) songs.

Unfortunately, Andrew was not as lucky in the next phase, the Super Home Visits phase, as he did not manage to make it to the top 3 and enter the live shows. This is attributed mostly to his musical inexperience at the time. However, experts in the field, like Simon Cowell, remarked upon Andrew’s promising career in the industry.

It now remains to be seen if Andrew Lambrou will try again for the Australian national final despite his recent disappointing results or whether CYBC, after this year’s non-qualification, will follow on the ERT’s footsteps and send an expatriate artist to the ESC.

Check out his performance at Australia Decides 2022 below:

Would you like to see Andrew Lambrou at Eurovision 2023 with Australia or with Cyprus? Stay tuned for all the updates on the matter!
