Who is Iru?

Irina “Iru” Khechanovi is a twenty-three year old young artist from Georgia with Armenian descent. You may know her because she won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2011 as a member of the girl group Candy with the song “Candy Music”. In 2019, she tried to expand her career as a participant in the “Georgian Idol“. She also co-written Georgia’s song “I Believe” for Junior Eurovision last year. The entry finished in third place.

In 2023, she won the fifth season of “The Voice Georgia” and therefore she won the right to represent her country to Eurovision in Liverpool.

The Rehearsal

Unfortunately this year, accredited journalists don’t get the chance to watch the first and second rehearsals, so we only get the information and content that the organizers officially release to the public.

Georgia has had an outfit adjustment, changing Iru’s dress train to a much bigger one than the one wearing on Tuesday’s first rehearsal. Reasonable considering the wind machines are going full blast in this act!

Eurovision 2023: Georgia’s First Rehearshal!

Next up on stage we will be seeing Iru on her first rehearsal as the representative of Georgia in this year’s competition with “Echo”.

The Rehearsal

Iru wears a diaphanous white dress that looks like the dress from the official music videoThe whole song is performed on a raised platform in the centre of the stage, against a LED backdrop of swirling smoke and stormy weather, accompanied by a wind machine. All together it creates a hugely atmospheric performance, and Iru’s breathtaking vocals are already lifting the roof off the Liverpool arena.

As well with the wind, there is also smoke in the third rehearsal for Georgia. The smoke blends with the foggy LED backdrop, this makes the whole performance very effective.

Below you can watch a small clip from the Georgian first rehearsal, once it’s published on TikTok:

Georgia: Iru’s “Echo” will be revealed on March 16th

Georgia, in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, is represented by Iru Khechanovi, who is also known mononymously as Iru. However, little were known regarding Iru’s song until a few minutes ago, when its title, “Echo”, was released by the official account of Eurovision on Twitter. In addition to that, audience will have the opportunity to listen to the song on Thursday March 16th, which is also the official date of release, announced by Eurovision’s Twitter account as well. Taking this into consideration, Georgia’s entry will be in fact the last one which is released for this year’s contest.

At this point let’s keep in mind that this is not going to be Iru’s very first experience from the contest, since she has already participated once more, when she was one of the members of the band named “Candy”, which was actually the winning entry for Georgia in Junior Eurovision of 2011.
