Netherlands: Didn’t give permission for the broadcast of S10’s Live-on-Tape!

Dutch participating broadcaster, AVROTROS, didn’t give its permission for the broadcast of S10’s Live-on-Tape. According to Songfestival Update, an AVROTROS spokesperson stated:

We have submitted a request to the EBU not to put it online. We would like the performance from the live shows to remain as a memory for the public and the viewer

Just like in 2021, all countries had to record their performance in advance, as a backup in the event of a corona infection. This year it turned out not to be necessary. In 2021, Australia participated through their live-on-tape performance, because Montaigne was unable to come to Rotterdam due to the corona pandemic. A band member of Daði Freyr (Iceland) tested positive in Rotterdam. They participated with images from their rehearsal.

From June 14 to June 23, the live on tapes for Eurovision 2022 will be released on the official Eurovision channel on Youtube. These performances were recorded prior to the competition and would have been used if a delegation could not travel to Turin due to Covid-19 restrictions or if someone in the delegation was offended by Covid-19 while in Turin and could not participate in live shows.

It has not been clarified yet, which public radio and television stations did not give their permission for the publication of their live on tape. We will definitely not watch the live on tape video of Ukraine, since it was excluded from its recording due to the ongoing war in the country.

S10 represented the Netherlands at Eurovision 2022 with “De diepte”, the first Dutch-language song in the contest since 2010. She finished 11th in the Grand Final with 171 points, including 12 points from the Italian jury.

Netherlands: S10 to premiere her entry on 3rd March?

Shownieuws reports that the Dutch entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin, Italy will be revealed on March 3.

RTL’s Shownieuws reported that the song that S10 will represent the Netherlands with at Eurovision will be revealed on March 3. AVROTROS has yet to confirm the date that the Netherlands will reveal their entry for the 66th Eurovision Song Contest.

The date reported by Shownieuws ties in with previous Dutch song reveals which have traditionally taken place during the first week of March. S10’s entry for Eurovision 2022 will be in Dutch, this will be the first time that the Netherlands will send a Dutch-language entry since 2010, when Sieneke performed Ik ben verliefd (Sha-la-lie).

Little information on the Dutch entry for Turin has been revealed so far. Back in December, the broadcaster announced that S10 would be representing the Netherlands. S10, stage name of Stien den Hollander, is a rising star in the alternative scene of the country. Her music discusses personal and difficult topics, such as her own struggle with mental health. All we know about her song for Turin so far is that she will be singing in Dutch.

A commission consisting of Dutch television commentators Jan Smit and Cornald Maas as well as radio-DJs Coen Swijnenberg and Sander Lantinga chose the Dutch entry for Eurovision 2022. Similarly to 2019, when The Netherlands’ winning entry was chosen, the group is more focused on the song itself, rather than the artist.

Last year, the Netherlands hosted the Competition in Rotterdam. The country was represented by Jeangu Macrooy with the Birth of a New Age taking the 23rd place.

The Netherlands: AVROTROS announced participation at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, with alt-pop artist S10!

A few minutes ago, the Dutch national broadcaster AVROTROS announced that Stien den Hollander, known by the stage name S10, will represent The Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, with a Dutch song.

S10 appeared at a YouTube video, practically announcing her participation at the contest representing The Netherlands, to the masses of eurofans:

It gives me courage.
Music is for me the most important thing there is.
For anyone who’s experienced the lows,
or the highs.
For those who dance in front of the mirror,
or prefer to stay out of the light.
I am S10.
And I am performing on behalf of the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest.

S10 said of her selection:

Music is everything to me. I hope my music can bring something to other people’s lives, simply because it has done so much for me. Which is why I could almost explode with joy at the idea that I’ll be taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest this year. In front of such a massive audience, being able to do something that’s such an honour while representing the Netherlands… I think it’s absolutely wonderful.

Eric van Stade, general manager of AVROTROS, added on behalf of the selection comeetee:

S10’s song displays guts and authenticity. While normally we don’t reveal anything at this stage beyond the artist’s name, this time I dare to make an exception. S10 remains true to herself and her unique style. This means that, having selected English-language entries for the last 11 years, we’re now sending a Dutch song to the Eurovision Song Contest. We’re sticking our necks out with this choice, which the selection committee is behind unanimously. It promises to be another very special edition for the Netherlands.

More details will be revealed soon.
