Norway: Subwoolfer identity revealed ?

Last Saturday night, Subwoolfer won the Melodi Grand Prix final. Therefore, Norway will be represented by a masked and currently unidentified duo of artists in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin.

So far, neither the artists themselves, nor NRK, nor the record company, Universal, have revealed when the masks will finally fall and we will find out the identity of the duo.

However, the VG newspaper revealed that two artists who are rumored to be hiding behind the Subwoolfer are filming with Subwoolfer at the H3 Arena in Bærum, where the final took place on Saturday.

According to NRK, the recording is a back-up of the Eurovision performance, in case there are problems due to the pandemic or other prohibitive conditions in Turin.

In the parking lot outside the H3 Arena was a Volkswagen Up! registered with the Norwegian Public Administration in the name of Gaute Ormåsen (38). The artist participated in Idol in 2003, where he finished second.

There is also a Porsche, which is registered to the British Ben Adams (40), who was part of the boyband A1 in the late 90s. Adams has been living in Norway lately.

For the time being, both artists refused to comment.

A1 participated in Melodi Grand Prix 2010 and finished in the second place.

Ormåsen also participated in the Melodi Grand Prix in 2010, as well as in 2013.

Norway: Interview with Oda Gondrosen | Norwegian Idol, Norwegian Mythology and Melodi Grand Prix 2022!

Oda Godrosen managed to get the ticket for the big final of Melodi Grand Prix 2022 and she gave an exclusive interview at EurovisionFun with Apostolos Bogiannos and Paschalis Barboutis.

At first she talked about her participation on Norway’s national selection with “Hummer of Thor“.

“My participation at Melodi Grand Prix had been a dream of mine since I was 5-6 years old. I have worked really hard and I’m finally here, trying to represent Norway in Eurovision. It’s a dream come true.”

The song came out at a camp she took part as an inspiration of Norwegian Mythology.

“We wrote “Hummer of Thor” on August at a very creative camp for MGP so that it can be well presented on stage. We had in our minds Alexander Rybak and Keiino with the sound of violin and flute. I told to the composers that I wanted a pop song and I looked through mythology to think about the content of the song. So we started writing a story, a fairytale. If we go deeper though, the song talks about me taking control of my life, I have the Hummer and I’m in control. I want people who will hear my song to create their own meaning of it”

Oda won the third semifinal of MGP and she will sing on the Grand Final.

“It’s fantastic. I’m very grateful for my qualification. All these days, I keep on reading all the messages people text me, people are sharing photos and videos of my perfomance and it’s so good and I’m very happy that I can be at the final. I don’t know if there will be any changes in the Grand Final, but if so, it will be only small ones”

Her favorite Norwegian entry is Alexander Rybak(2009) and her all time favorite Eurovision song is Euphoria(Sweden 2012) and some last year’s entries like Italy, Malta, Cyprus and Azerbaijan.

Oda also mentioned her Norwegian Idol experience she had a few years ago.

“I reached the third place and it was a huge opportunity to show people who I really am. It was a great begging for me and I has very happy that I managed to get to the finals. This whole experience makes me feel more safe now in MGP, I feel much more comfortable in front of the cameras”

At the end, she sang a small part of her song “Hummer of Thor“.

Norway: Interview with Frode Vassel | From The Voice Norway to the finals of Melodi Grand Prix 2022 ! (Video)

After the announcement of the contestants of the Norwegian National FinalMelodi Grand Prix 2022, Frode Vassel talks exclusively to EurovisionFun reporters, Apostolos Bogiannos and Apostolis Matamis.

Frode is one of the finalists of the Norwegian national selection process for Eurovision 2022 and is bidding on representing his country with the song “Black Flowers”. In 2021, even though he is an experienced  artist already, he took part in the Norwegian version of The Voice, where he managed to get a four chair turn by impressing the judges. Fast-forward to now, he wins his semi-final earning him a ticket to the finals of Melodi Grand Prix 2022.

In the first duel, I was very stressed out, to such an extent, that I forgot a part of the lyrics. Thank God, nobody had realised that. When I reached the gold duel, I was more laid back and it was a wonderful experience.

Him securing a place at the finals of MGP, contradicted all the betting odds for the night:

I was not the favourite for that semi-final, but “Black Flowers” is one of those songs that sound better, when they’re performed live. I had a good feeling about the results and I kinda new that with a nice live performance, I could convince even those having the most doubts. Due to COVID-19, there was no audience at all at the venue. But I hope that we will have a live audience at the finals, it will make the whole show even better.

Regarding his final performance, Frode admits that there might be some slight changes and these will mostly affect the camera shots. After that, he discussed the meaning behind his song “Black Flowers”.

The title has a metaphorical meaning and the song is all about the decisions that everyone has to make on a personal level, or maybe on the society or the world, for example the environment. There’s always somebody that makes some decisions and these have an impact on everyone else. Whoever can’t do this, is the one who has to pay the consequences of these decisions. We make decisions that we don’t know if they’re right and this happens quite often, just because this is the most convenient way of doing things. So “Black Flowers” speaks exactly about that, about the maturity of a person and how they eventually use their own powers.

Frode is very satisfied with his song and as he states, “Black Flowers” had been selected from a bunch of different songs he had prepared, when the idea of competing at Melodi Grand Prix 2022 came up. He might release some of those songs, after the contest.

From his competitors’ songs his favourites are those of Subwoolfer, Elsie Bay and NorthKid.

His favourite Norwegian entry is the one of Alexander Rybak (2009) while his favourite entries from the entire contest are Loreen (Sweden 2012), Go_A (Ukraine 2021) and Sanja Ilić & Balkanika (Serbia 2018).

We couldn’t help but ask his thoughts about Amanda Tenfjord, who is half-Norwegian as well, Frode commented:

I haven’t met her in person but she is well known in Norway. It would be interesting, if I got selected to represent Norway and met her in Turin. Of course 12 points go to Greece, this year.

A while before we said goodbye to Frode, he sang a part of his song acapella.

Norway: Interview with Elsie Bay from Melodi Grand Prix 2022! (Video)

After the announcement of her participation in this year’s national final of NorwayMelodi Grand Prix 2022Elsie Bay talks exclusively to EurovisionFun and George Zefteridis.

Elsie Bay is one of the automatic qualifiers at MGP 2022 finals, that also appeared and performed her song “Death of us“, live at the first semi final.

She mentions that she is really happy about her performance, as that was something she highly anticipated and with regards to the staging of her song, she mentioned that she had to keep it a secret, until she eventually performed it live.

I received quite some positive feedback and really nice messages about my semi-final performance. Currently we are working on my performance for the MGP finals, where there will certainly be some changes. But we’ve not decided on that, yet.

Death of Us” was born during a songwriting camp where she participated and as she says, she never expected she’d write a song which she would have to perform in the end.

I didn’t expect to compose a song for me, specifically for MGP. Last year, I’d composed the song “Witch Woods” which I decided to give to Emmy, as it suited her quite nicely. This year I had no idea what I could write about, flicked through some of my old notes, mixed and matched and then “Death of Us” came to life. And now I really believe that I got a chance to win the national selection.

From those songs of her competitors, she likes the songs of NorthKidSubwoolferVilde and Farida. Her favourite past Norwegian entry was the winning song “Fairytale” by Alexander Rybak (2009) and generally from the contest the loved last year’s winners Maneskin (Italy 2021), Loreen (Sweden 2012) and Gjon’s Tears (Switzerland 2021).

We couldn’t help but ask her about Amanda Tenfjord that will represent Greece this year, who is also half Norwegian. Elsie commented:

I know Amanda. I’m not sure if we’ve ever met in person, however, I think we’re under the same management. I’ve also worked with her producer, Bjorn.

A few moments before we had to say goodbye to Elsie Bay, she sang a part of her song for us, acapella.

Norway: Interview with Farida from Melodi Grand Prix 2022 (video)

After the announcement of the contestants of the Norwegian National FinalMelodi Grand Prix 2022, Farida talks exclusively to Eurovisionfun and Stella Gialetzi.

Farida is really grateful for all the support she’s received, from the public and the people she’s collaborated with, on her first attempt to compete at MGP and she states that music is something she loves and makes her happy.

I wrote “Dangerous” with my team on July, last year. I love this kind of cinematic music. The message that the song conveys, has to do with being different. I am born half Norwegian and half Algerian. In my songs, I usually refer to myself, but “Dangerous” expresses all those obstacles people have to overcome, until they can stand on their own feet.

She also comments, that she has experimented with lots of different genres and styles of music, paying great attention to the composition of her songs and as she points out “she wants to feel the vibe of the song before she even goes through its lyrics.

Asked about the staging of “Dangerous” she describes it as follows:

The song is a bit dark and somehow dramatic, I am obviously influenced by James Bond and the cinematic theme songs and soundtracks on his movies. Therefore, the staging would start off being dark, but will end with a great surprise. With something that has never been implemented before. What I will eventually wear, will be a surprise.

She comments on her heat, as it being a “fair battle“, due to the variety of songs that will have to compete in it. There are one country song, a ballad, a rock and a pop song that will compete with each other in duels, next Saturday.

It will be so hard. This heat I take part in, is a fair battle. I wish Norway and Europe in general would actually vote for my entry.

From the rest of this year’s contestants, she likes the songs of Christian Ingebrigtsen, Eline Noelia, Elsie Bay and Mari Bølla while her favourite past Norwegian entries in the contest are those of Stella Mwangi (2011), Alexander Rybak (2009) and Ulrikke (2020).

My favourite song of the entire contest is the one of Salvador Sobral (Portugal 2017) as he mainly focused in his music. Of course, those of Måneskin (Italy 2021) and Loreen (Sweden 2012) as well. I also loved Stefania’s performance, last year.

We couldn’t help but asking her thoughts about Amanda Tenfjord, who she shares the same roots with, as they’re both also Norwegian!

Of course I know Amanda! I didn’t know she is half Greek. She is so good. Her music is so alternative and authentic, with a dash of Scandinavian style, in such a way that her songs can touch your soul. She can be that something-different, by taking part in Eurovision Song Contest. I am really excited and quite curious about the final outcome. For sure, the Greek proposal is something new and different for the contest this year.

A while before we said goodbye to Farida, she sang the bridge of her song acapella.

Norway: Interview with Vilde form Melodi Grand Prix 2022 (video)

After the announcement of the competitors for Norways national final, Melodi Grand Prix 2022Vilde talks exclusively  to Eurovisionfun and Stella Gialetzi.

Obviously excited for her song, says that she is grateful for the messages that fans send her, after the releasement of her song and that she is ready to stand on the Eurovision stage.

Titans” was chosen between three songs that she had prepared, says Vilde.

I had three songs, two of which, were leaded on a debate. “Titan” and a powerful ballad, which will be my next single.

From this year’s competitors, she highlights the participations of Maria Mohn, Eline Noela and  Elsie Bay while also giving out some hints on her MGP 2022 performance.

On stage, I will have four dancers, my choreographer is very good. I will wear a green dress which is very interesting. There are a lot of  surprises, mainly in the last chorus. I focus on the song, the vocals, the performance and the message of the song.

With the song “Titans“, Vilde, she wants to pass a message about the fears and the feelings that women experience throughout their lives. She hopes that her song will be an hymn that will make every listener understand that together they can find the power they need.

Lastly, asked about our representative this year, Amanda Tenfjord, also coming from Norway, Vilde  said:

Of course I know her, I listen to her song this past year. Here in Norway everybody knows everyone. I was surprised with Greece’s choice and I find it really interesting. We have worked together with Amanda’s producer, Bjørn, with my band and I look forward to their song, I believe it will be really powerful.

Norway: A Eurostar among the rumoured MGP 2022 participants!

The participants of Melodi Grand Prix 2022 will be announced next week but escNorge.no has already revealed some names that according to them will be among the competitors.

It seems that VILDE, Kim Wigaard, Northkid, Farida, Maria Mohn, Christian Ingebrigtsen, Oda Gondrosen, Mari Bølla and Elsie Bay might be on the list of the participants of the Norwegian national final.

Also, former Melodi Grand Prix participants Anna-Lisa Kumoji (MGP 2019) and Alexandra Joner (MGP 2015) are likely to return.

However, what is perhaps the most interesting revelation is that a former MGP winner is probably in the running, aiming to represent Norway once more, or for the first time, in case the former winner turns out to be Ulrikke.

The participation of a former MGP winner was also hinted by the Twitter account of Eurovision Norway :

NRK will reveal the 22 competing artists on Monday, January 10th 2022 and all the songs will be released later on the same day.

The schedule for the Melodi Grand Prix shows is as follows:

  • January 15 – Semi-Final One
  • January 22 – Semi-Final Two
  • January 29 – Semi-Final Three
  • February 5 – Semi-Final Four
  • February 12 – Second Chance Round
  • February 19 – Grand Final
