Weird broken records of EUROVISION 2023!

Every year, including this one, we witnessed numerous peculiar results, variations between finals and semifinals, top rankings in records, and so forth. So, let’s examine each of them individually, shall we?

1. Albania

Albania, despite finishing 9th in the televote of the semi-final, achieved the second-best result among the countries from the second semi-final in the final itself, following Poland. This success led Albania to secure the 10th place overall in the final audience. Well done Albania!

2. Austria

In contrast, even though Austria achieved the second position in the semi-final audience, in the final unexpectedly ended up in the very last position among the countries from the second semi-final. Unfortunately, Austria could only manage to secure the 22nd place in the final. Ouch.

3. Serbia

Serbia managed to get the beloved ticket to the final, earning just 37 points and maintaining a significant gap of 37 points(!) from the next contestant in 9th place. Interestingly, 9th place had twice as many points as the 10th place. Wow, that’s symmetry brah. However, Serbia achieved a new record for the lowest number of points obtained by a contestant in the 10th place during the semi-final, surpassing Iceland’s previous record of 39 points in 2022.

4. Australia

Australia pulled through and won their semi-final, convincing the crowd that they had the best track among the 16. The crowd must have been forgotten somewhere in the final, as Australia only climbed to 20th place, earning the record for worst-placed semi-final winner in the final, when it comes to the televote. Followed by Greece in 2010 and Romania in 2013, with 7th place in the final, as semi-final winners. I think they completely forgot about Australia, they might have been snacking during the “promise” performance and not paying attention. Shame, shame, shame, first the music then the eating people!

5. Sweden

Sweden overtook Ireland in wins, Loreen became the first woman to win the trophy twice and also this year’s Nordic country’s entry managed to set a new record by winning Eurovision with no 12 points from the audience. Like it or not, these are the trade-offs. Finally, this year’s Swedish entry managed to win, having a distance of 133 points from the winner of the televote, breaking the previous record, which was again its own, in 2015 with a distance of 87 points. In conclusion, 4 records for this year’s winner. Well played!

6. Estonia

Alika, just 20 years old, against all odds, made it to the final by finishing 10th in her semi-final. Hopefully, the judges had other plans, and while in the audience of the final she finished in 19th place (one place above the winner of her semi-final, Australia!), they shared her 146 points, giving her a decent place in this year’s top ten! Not being among the 10 favourite to pass in the big final, and finally reaching the final top ten, is undoubtedly something that even she did not expect. (credits to Katerina Mitika)

Serbia: RTS announcement regarding the national mourning!

“Although the days of national mourning are officially over, the sorrow is not yet over in Serbia”

Radio Television of Serbia, RTS, informs viewers that, exclusively due to contractual obligations with the EBU, it will broadcast the first and second semi-finals of the Eurovision Song Contest on Tuesday, May 9 and Thursday, May 11 on RTS3, a channel of less popularity.

The Serbian delegation in Liverpool shares the grief of the families of the tragic victims of the “Vladislav Ribnikar” primary school in Belgrade, as well as those from the Mladenovac and Smederevo districts, understanding the grief of all the people in Serbia.

The representative of Serbia, Luke Black, will dedicate his performance to all the victims of the above mentioned terrorist attacks.

Eurovision 2023: Serbia’s First Rehearsal!

Next up on stage is Luke Black for his 1st rehearsal on the stage of Liverpool. Luke Black represents Serbia at the 67th Eurovision Song Contest, after winning Pesma za Evroviziju ’23 with his song “Samo mi se spava”!

Who is Luke Black?

Luka Ivanović, known professionally as Luke Black, is a Serbian singer and songwriter. He was born in Čačak on 18 May 1992, started writing lyrics at the age of 12 and later started to compose and produce his own songs. He became the first Serbian artist to be signed under Universal Music Group, through which he released his debut EP Thornes in February 2015. It was followed by Neoslavic (2018) and F23.8 (2023). He is currently based in London.

The rehearsal

Luke gets to the stage to perform his indie/techno number that includes both English and Serbian lyrics. Staging-wise, Luke has brought the huge prop from the Serbian National Finals, that looks like a bed/oyster shell, along with four masked dancers trailing long hoses – we’ve heard a rumour that smoke is going to come out of those, so we’ll update when we see the pyro rehearsal. The pulsing bass and video game graphics and the dark, surreal and hypnotic vibe create a memorable performance.

For the final rehearsal, Luke unleashes smoke from the backpacks worn by their backing dancers, just for the final chorus. It makes the whole thing feel even more apocalyptic. It’s our first pyro of the day.

Below you can watch a small clip from Serbia’s first rehearsal from Tik Tok:

The second rehearsal of Serbia will take place on Wednesday May 3 so we will get a better idea of what we will see from Luke Black on stage.

Serbia: Record with over 900 songs for Pesma Evrovizije 2023!

Until yesterday, Serbian public television RTS was receiving proposals for this year’s national final for the selection for Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool.

Since the beginning of September, it was announced that a national final (Pesma Evrovizije) would be held to select the artist and song that will represent the country at Eurovision 2023.

Using the same procedure as last year’s contest, Serbian public television started its search for Konstrakta‘s successor. Despite the predictions that wanted Sara Jo or Zorja to win Pesma Evrovizije 2022, in the end, the unknown Konstrakta, with her unconventional song, with strange lyrics … beat her competitors by far and travelled to Turin, even winning fifth place there!

After this success, the interest in participating in Pesma Evrovizije 2023 proved to be great.

According to reliable sources of Kurir, an online news paper in Serbia, more than 900 applications for PZE 2023 have been received, which is an absolute record so far as far as this competition is concerned.

With the end of the submissions, the closing committee will listen to all the entries, so by the end of the year we will know the participants in the country’s upcoming national final.
