Belgium: Luka Gruysberghs left The Hooverphonic. Geike Arnaert returns!!

Unexpected breaking news received a few moments ago.  The Hooverphonic replaced their current lead singer Luka Gruysberghs with their former one Geike Arnaert, with whom they achieved most of their success.

The Hooverphonic in the simple press release they issued a while ago express their grief for the replacement of Luka, but also their enthusiasm for the return of Geike, with whom they have preserved excellent relations,  through all these years since she left the band.

We met. We started talking. All three of us were willing to work together again, so we felt we had to do it. She is still the core of Hooverphonic.

The seed was planted a long time ago. Geike called me for something practical. The conversation was very pleasant. I told her we were preparing for the 20th anniversary of “The Magnificent Tree” and it suddenly turned out that we were looking forward to working together again. The split in 2008 was certainly not hostile, as many have said and written.

Geike Arnaert, who works solo since 2008, is very excited for her coming back and says:

We wanted to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the album together. It’s a weird feeling. I return to this with great pleasure. I do not know how the fans will react. But it looks very good to me. I will fit my own story in the songs again.

For the forced leaving of Luka, Alex Callier, the leader of the band, states that it is a bittersweet decision, but she will remain the composer, if she wants to.

Of course it’s a little bittersweet for Luka. She is an excellent singer, no doubt on that. We had three wonderful years with her. But our collaboration ends here. We have traveled all over Europe and the United States and had many unforgettable moments together. We continue to support her with all of our heart. She will release a solo single from Universal and if Luka wants, of course I will continue to accompany her.

The Hooverphonic with Geike Arnaert as lead singer released probably their biggest success, Mad About You .

Given the aforementioned developments it is self-evident that Geike will also be on the stage of the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2021 for Belgium.

Belgium: Hooverphonic’s song for Eurovision 2021 is “already ready”!

Hooverphonic, who will represent Belgium in the Eurovision 2021 song contest, said in a recent interview that their song is already ready!

Alex Callier, head of the band, said in an interview to Dag Allemaal that during the summer and due to quarantine, they had the opportunity to write many new songs. Among them is the song with which they will represent Belgium in the next competition.

Despite the  summer, we made good use of our time. I think I already have material for three new albums… The song that Hooverphonic will perform on the stage of Ahoy Arena is already ready!

Belgium: Hooverphonic – “We are looking forward to 2021”

Hooverphonic will take part in Eurovision 2021 Song Contest for Belgium! VRT, RTBF and the band agreed to this. Recall that the contest would normally take place in May, but was postponed due to the Covid-19 virus crisis. However, the band will have to look for a new song.
The news that the Eurovision Song Contest will be postponed for a year has emerged on Wednesday. The 65th edition of the contest was scheduled to take place in Rotterdam from 12 to 16 May 2020, but was canceled due to the risk of transmission of the virus. The intention is that Rotterdam will remain the venue for next year, but that is not certain yet.

The VRT and RTBF, which alternately select the candidate, agreed that Hooverphonic will have the opportunity to represent Belgium and 2021, with a new song as requested by all participating countries.

Olivier Goris, Een’s CEO says:

“The cancellation of the Eurovision Song Contest was a blow to everyone, but also an understandable and right decision. It highlights the great and difficult times we are experiencing and we are very grateful to our colleagues at RTBF for their willingness to maintain VRT involvement in 2021”

While the band on its part stated:

“It’s nice to have such a quick confirmation that we can go to Eurovision next year. We are still looking forward to doing so. We will now take the time to see how we can prepare for May next year.”

Belgium: Hooverphonic want to join Eurovision 2021, but with another song

Hooverphonic say they are ready to represent Belgium at Eurovision 2021 after failing to do so this year due to the pandemic and cancellation of the contest. In fact, Alex Callier wants to do this with a different song, since “Release Me”, by May 2021, will sound old.

So far there has been no announcement from either Flemish Public Television or French-speaking about what is likely to be born with Belgium’s next competition.

We remind you that Belgium represents Flanders on a rotating basis, one year on Flemish television, and one on French public television. This year, it was Flanders’ year. So in order for Hooverphonic to represent Belgium at Eurovision 2021, French-speaking television should be chosen.

Belgium: Hooverphonic to Thessaloniki,Greece for a unique night

Hooverphonic, the band that will represent Belgium at Eurovision 2020, are returning to Thessaloniki after many years for a unique night full of successes loved by the Greek public on Friday 13 December at Fix Factory Of Sound.

The Belgian band has had a special place in our hearts ever since it first appeared on European music, with more recent proof of their excellent appearance at Release Athens festival last June.

Responsible for some of the most wonderful tunes we’ve heard in the last 25 years, Alex Callier and Raymond Geerts have managed to combine elements of alternative rock, electro-pop, trip-hop, dream-pop with a romantic cinema aesthetics.

At the same time, their big gun is a young singer, 18-year-old Luka Cruysberghs. With tremendous vocal abilities, she managed to color their sound instantly, ideally rendering both new and old band material, which we saw in the summer.

Who are the Hooverphonic?

Hooverphonic is a Belgian band formed in October 1995. The band was originally called Hoover, but later changed its name to Hooverphonic after discovering that other bands were already using the Hoover name.

On October 10, 2008, Geike Arnaert, the band’s lead singer, announced that she would leave the band by the end of the year to pursue her solo career. Hooverphonic’s last concert with Geike took place on December 13, 2008 at Tele-Club in Russia.

On October 29, 2010, Hooverphonic announced the release of their new single, as well as their new lead singer, Noemie Wolfs. On March 26, 2015, Hooverphonic announced that Noémie Wolfs would leave the band “by mutual agreement”. In April 2018, Hooverphonic introduced their new singer, Luka Cruysberghs.
