Azerbaijan: Listen to “Özünlə Apar” by Fahree and Ilkin Dovletov for Eurovision 2024!

İctimai Television, the public broadcaster of Azerbaijan, announced earlier this month on March 7, that Fahree will represent the country in Eurovision 2024 in Malmö! A few days later, it was announced that Ilkin Dovletov will also be present on stage, and they will represent the country, as a duet!

It was just a few minutes ago, that their song for the contest was finally released, being the last song to be released for Eurovision Song Contest 2024!

Who is Fahree and Ilkin Dovletov?

The singer was born in Baku in 1995 and was brought up in a very artistic family; his father was a passionate jazz drummer, while his grandfather was a respected actor.During his university years, Fahree studied hard to become a lawyer, spending 6 years on achieving both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in law.

However, while the world was caught up in the global pandemic back in 2020, Fahree was living a renaissance of his childhood dream… dedicating his life to music. Fahree finally got the courage to put aside his juridical career perspectives and follow his real passion – and the Eurovision Song Contest is a dream come true.

Ilkin Dovletov was a finalist in the “Voice of Azerbaijan, Native Songs” competition and rose to fame in Azerbaijan as a result of his performances. He toured foreign countries, performed at numerous festivals and concerts, and promoted his country’s national music. It should be noted that Ilkin Dovletov has been a favorite of Eurovision fans since his appearance in “Voice of Azerbaijan”.

How were they selected?

Following the voting of a jury committee, the following six artists were shortlisted and hence claimed the Azerbaijani representation in Malmö:

  • Emiliya Yaqubova
  • Ilkin Dovlatov, Mila Miles and Etibar Asadli
  • Aisel (Azerbaijan 2018)
  • Fahree I.
  • Qorqud (Elvin Novruzov)
  • Sabina Guluzadeh

Among the jury members of the selection there are Aysel Teymurzadə (Azerbaijan 2009) as well as Eldar Gasımov & Nigar Jamal (Azerbaijan 2011-winner).

Azerbaijan: 214 songs submitted for Eurovision 2024!

Earlier today, İTV, the public broadcaster of Azerbaijan, announced the closing of their submission window, as well as the number of proposals they received for Eurovision 2024.

İTV announced through their Eurovision-themed accounts that they received 214 proposals to represent Azerbaijan in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. Out of the 214 songs, 88 of them are from local composers, while the remaining 126 are from foreign composers. As in previous year’s, the country will choose its representative once again through an internal selection process.

No further information has been released regarding the announcement of the artist or the release of the song.

TuralTuranX represented Azerbaijan at Eurovision 2023, with the song “Tell Me More”, finishing in 14th place in the semi-final, giving the country its second non-qualification:

Azerbaijan: The search of the representative for Eurovision 2024 is on!

iTV, the public broadcaster of Azerbaijan, has now confirmed their participation in Eurovision Song Contest 2024, while on the same time they commenced the search for their next representative for the coming contest.

Those interested will be able to send their proposals until the deadline on September 30, on the specified email adress, song@eurovision.az.

The conditions for taking part are:

  • The songs must be in MP3 format, 192 kbps
  • There must be a sort bio of the performer, a photo and info on the composers of the song
  • The song must not be longer than three (3) minutes
  • The songs must not be published before September 1, 2023
  • The public broadcaster of the country has the right to make changes to the submitted songs

The representatives of Azerbaijan in Eurovision 2023, were the twins TuralTuranX with their song “Tell Me More”, ending up in 14th place of the First Semi-Final, getting Azerbaijan’s worst result in the contest and also their second non-qualification:

Azerbaijan: With Azeri composers for the first time since 2008, at Eurovision 2023!

According to the website, 12xal, the song that will be performed by the artist that will represent Azerbaijan in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, will be exclusively composed by Azerbaijanis.

All five artists who are in the final phase of the internal selection, competed with songs, created by composers originally from Azerbaijan.

The five artists are:

  • Azer Nasibov
  • Humay Aslanova & Amrah Musayev
  • Leyla Izzatova
  • Mamagama
  • Turan & Tural Bağmanovlar

All of them performed their participation live in the same studio and these performances were videotaped. A focus group will evaluate the five performances and determine the artist and song with which Azerbaijan will be represented at Eurovision 2023. In fact, only one candidate has a foreign co-writer among the songwriters.

The news alone leads to the fact that Azerbaijan, which has participated in the contest since 2008 and appeared only once, in its first year of participation with a locally produced song, will compete for the second time with a song exclusively from an Azeri team.

Nadir Rustamli represented Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin with the song “Fade to Black”. In the Grand Final it finished in 16th place with 106 points, however it is the first entry to qualify for the final with zero points from the public vote in the semi-final.

The Azeri public television, Ictimai TV, recently announced the five artists who managed to reach the final phase of the internal selection, through which they will choose the artist and song that will represent the country in Liverpool.

The five artists are:
