Tone Sekelius: “After competing with ‘My Way’ people see me more as an artist rather than an influencer” | Exclusive interview!

Tone Sekelius debuted last year at Melodifestivalen 2022 by placing fifth , also earned a spot in the hearts of die-hard Melodifestivalen fans.

For a second year in a row she hopes to be selected to represent Sweden , with the song ” Rhythm of my Show ” which is one of the favorites to qualify to the final, out of all seven competing numbers of the Swedish national selection procedure.

Eurovisionfun is in Gothenburg and Tone spoke exclusively to Andreas Papagiannakis, just a few hours before competing in the first heat. She commented on her appearance this year, the impact that her participation last year has had on her life and about the Swedish representative of 2022, Cornelia Jakobs!

She started by commenting on her first rehearsal experience this year and jokes about the rehearsal being so early in the morning that she just woke up and had to immediately start singing:

“This year’s number has a lot of singing and dancing and I have to stay focused, because the moment I start overanalyzing what’s going on, that’s when I forget what I need to do next. I have to keep in mind that I know what to do, I know the choreography, I know my song and I just have to have fun on stage!”

When asked how much of an impact her participation at Melodifestivalen 2022 has had on her life, she commented:

“It was an unforgettable experience. Since then I have done much music and the people have already started to see me more as an artist rather than an influencer who just makes music! Last year I was afraid that people wouldn’t see me as an artist, but that didn’t happen and that makes me very happy!”

She also commented on her getting awarded as the LGBT person of the year at the QX Gaygala 2022 , stating:

“I am excited, I felt very honored! I have left my mark on the community and the things I do move the community forward. This was my goal from the very first moment I was on the internet, not just to exist, but to have an impact on others!”

About her song she co-wrote among others with Anderz Wrethov she said:

“This year I wanted to make an uptempo song with party vibes, with attitude but at the same time be still approachabe make people want to party with me. Textwise, it’s about confidence, loving yourself and dancing to the ‘rhythm of your show’!”

Regarding her staging, she told us that regarding the rehearsals there will be some minor changes and improvements until her televised appearance, this Saturday:

“Today at my first rehearsal, it was the first time I actually saw how my number would look like on TV. We figured out it’s maybe a bit too dark. So we’ll make some changes and improvements by adding more light to it. From the beginning we aimed to give viewers the feeling of clubbing, we are very close to what we initially had in mind with the creative team!”

She is very happy that Melodifestivalen is back on tour and that she will perform in Gothenburg :

“Last year I was supposed to be competing in Gothenburg, but as you said, all the shows had to take place in Stockholm. This year is a different experience, last year I was in my hometown, this year we are all together hanging out in a Mellobubble . I am very happy to sing for the people in Gothenburg, I have been told many good comments about them!”

Last year’s representative of Sweden Cornelia Jakobs is gonna appear as a guest in the first heat, Tone jokingly told us:

“There is no rivalry! (laughs) I love her as an artist, she’s an icon, I love her song and I’m glad she’s back. Her year was great, it was great that I got to see all of her performance backstage and then I saw it all happen on the Eurovision stage!”

Regarding this year’s contestants of the first heat, she commented:

“I haven’t listened to all of the songs. I got to see the performances of Loulou Lamotte and Rejhan which I liked a lot. But I still haven’t listened to them all and at Melodifestivalen, you know, you can’t predict who’s going to win, who’s going to qualify just by ones name!”

Markus Riva, is undoubtedly one of the most famous artists among the Eurovision fans! This year, he is trying to represent Latvia at Eurovision for the 9th year , and he is also the artist with the most appearances in their national final, Supernova. This year he will participate with the song “Forever“.

He spoke exclusively about his big dream to Eurovisionfun and to Apostolos Bogiannos and Stella Gialetzi.

Οn the question about his journey in Supernova so far, he told us:

“Wow, it’s been a long time! I hope that this journey is still ongoing and I want to believe that in the end I will succeed. Eurovision is my dream. This journey is unique and every year is different, I was twice in second place while some other times I didn’t manage to make it to the live shows. This shows us that there is no recipe, of course it takes hard work, but you can never be sure! It means a lot to me to achieve my goal and I will do my best!”

Markus also talked about his entry and how much he loves the 80’s vibe on it:

“The main message of my song is for people to try to stay away from the bad events that affect our lives! First it was the covid-19 pandemic, now we have bad events happening in Ukraine and all over the planet bad events are happening. So my goal was not to make a political song but an optimistic song that will lift people’s mood!”

Αlso, he revealed that his stage presentation is going to be epic, because he wants to leave his own mark on the contest!

About his favourite entries from Eurovision, Markus revealed:

“My favorite entry from Latvia is definitely Aminata’s “Love injected”. She is my friend and we also wrote a song together for supernova, it may not have been the most successful but it has a special place in my heart. More generally in Eurovision, the first entry that comes to my mind is Norway’s entry in 2013, “I feed you my love”. Also, from last year I really liked Sweden’s participation, “Ηold me closer” is definitely one of my favorite songs, but “Slomo” was also an impressive performance! I also really liked the winning song 2022, from Ukraine, as well as Jamala’s who won in 2016.”

Tiril: It’s all about the song | Interview

Some days before the third semi final of MGP 2023, we had the joy to chat with Tiril from Norway. The singer is competing with the song “Break It” and talked with EurovisionFun’s Paschalis.

She talked about her song and why she decided to participate in MGP.

“Break It” is my entry. It’s written by my two favorite songwriters in Norway, Emma Steinbakken and Emelie Hollow and produced by Benjamin Pinkus and Lars Rosness. I’m also a songwriter, but I haven’t written anything in the song, I just asked to sing it. They liked what they heard and now I’m here and I couldn’t be more happy!
The song is really good and suits me very well.

It’s an amazing oppotunity. I always wanted to be an artist. This is a great way to start my career. I can show myself to the world and meet people who like this kind of music.

She also revealed a few things about her stage performance.

I love the stage show that we’ve put together. It will look very dramatic. It’s all about the song. I wanted it to be about my voice. There’s not going to be a lot of things happening. I’m also going to wear red, my favorite color! I’m super excited about the dress that I’m going to wear.

We asked her opinion about the other MGP contestants.

That’s hard to say. There’s a lot of people I knew and new faces. It’s hard to choose a favorite. I think Ulrikke might be the strongest competitor. She has a lot of fans from before and already won MGP. Her song is amazing this year so I’m scared of her, but also very happy to be in the same competition.

She talked about Eurovision and older entries she likes.

Eurovision is a tradition for me. I love watching it every year. It feels like New Year’s Eve because you get to stay up late and watch so many countries.

I just remember very well Margaret Berger with “Feed you my love”. I loved the song and the stage show. That’s my favorite one. When I was in school I emailed Margaret Berger and told her that I want to be an artist and asked to work with her for a day and I loved it.

My childhood favorite was Lena with “Satellite”. There’s also “Euphoria” which is one of my favorites.

Finally as you can see in the video, she sang a little part of her entry, Break It.

Thank you for your support and love. I appreciate every kind word that I’ve gotten so far. It’s amazing!

Listen to “Break It” by Tiril:

We thank Tiril for her interview and wish her best luck!

“I am very proud of this song, which talks about the realization of our dreams which can only be achieved if we ourselves strive for it.”

JONE – I can’t wait to show the world our entry! | Exclusive interview

After the announcement of his participation in this year’s national final of Norway, MGP 2023, JONE gave an exclusive interview to EurovisionFun‘s Paschalis.

JONE is participating in the second semi final of this year’s MGP and he will try to represent his country at Eurovision 2023 with his song “Ekko inni meg“.

Some things about JONE

My real name is Jonas, I’m 27 years old and I live near Oslo. I’ve been working with music since I was 7 years old, started by playing the guitar. Then I learnt how to produce to music. From 2018 to 2021 I did a bachelor’s degree in producing and songwriting.

How he decided to participate in MGP

We figured out that we wanted to participate in MGP last year, we produced some demos, but didn’t manage to finish them and decided to participate next year. A producer contacted me. He participated in one of the songwriting camps and wanted to find the right vocalist for the song. He contacted me and asked me if I could try to record vocals. Stig Karlsen then called me and told me he loved the vocals.

What’s the song like

The song is like a heartbreak song, combined with norwegian folk music and edm party music. It’s a song that runs all over the place. It’s a high energy song, it’s what I normally like to produce. I fell in love with it since I listened to it for the first time.

What we’ll see on stage

Four dancers will be with me and the choreography is amazing. The rest is a secret! We’ve been working a lot with it and I can’t wait to show the world what it’s like.

Other MGP entries that he liked

There are two songs I like, Ulrikke’s Honestly and Alessandra’s Queen of Kings. Alessandra’s song is similar to mine and Ulrikke has an amazing voice and her song is really appealing. These are the two big competitors.

His favorite Norwegian Eurovision entry

Of course Alexander Rybak, I love Fairytale. That was the first time that I watched from MGP to the Eurovision Finals. TIX with Fallen Angel is one of my biggest idols. I take a lot of inspiration from him. He is an awesome guy and I’m so happy he participated in MGP and Eurovision.

My favorite Eurovision act of all time is Maneskin. I come from a rock background and I fell in love with that song. That was the highlight of Eurovision for me.

His message to the viewers and readers of Eurovisionfun

I really hope to come to Liverpool and participate in the biggest song contest that exists. I send my love to all of you and I hope everyone has a great time. I thank all of you who are rooting for me.

Ammerah: I love the Eurovision Community | Exclusive Interview

After the announcement of her participation in this year’s national final of Belgium, Eurosong 2023, Ameerah gave an exclusive interview to EurovisionFun‘s Paschalis.

Ameerah is among the finalists of this year’s Eurosong and will try to represent her country at Eurovision 2023 with one of her two songs, “The Carnival” and “Armageddon“.

Preselecties voor het Eurovisiesongfestival 2023 in Liverpool. Wie gaat voor België naar het Eurovisiesongfestival?

I was born in Belgium and I have been living in the US for the last ten years. I write music for other artists and myself.

I hadn’t realised that people outside Belgium knew my song (The Sound of Missing You) and I was surprised to listen to it in other countries!

I’d like to come sing in Greece since I’ve never been there!

Thanks to a friend who is a singer and actor who told me that there was a call for songs. I love Eurovision and decided to participate! I worked with Zach Poor and Morgan Taylor Reid, we sent the songs and they were selected!

About her two songs

They were written for Eurovision. Eurovision isn’t that known in America, so I showed them videos of past winners so that we could create a song that would convince everyone within three minutes.

It’s hard to choose a song. Carnival is an earworm, while Armageddon is something different, it starts as a ballad and afterwards it goes to a completely different direction. If I myself had to choose I wouldn’t be able to do it!

You are going to see a lot of wow-factor!

About the other Eurosong participants

I like a lot of songs! When we listened to the other artists’ songs they were all good. No matter who wins, we are going to have a very good song at Eurovision this year!

Her favorite past Eurovision entries

Sandra Kim since she won! I also like Loic Nottet, Tom Dice and Jeremie Makiese as well.

Euphoria for sure, ABBA’s Waterloo and Volare.

I’d love to collaborate with ABBA who are legends, though I know that this is impossible.

Her message to Eurovisionfun

I love the Eurovision Community! You are die-hard fans, you look for the voice, the act, how everything looks and for me as an artist that’s what’s all about! Thank you for your love and I hope to meet you soon!

Janek, one of the candidates of this year’s national final of Estonia, Eesti Laul with the song “House of Glass“, spoke exclusively to EurovisionFun and to Stella Gialetzi and Apostolis Matamis.

The singer, after talking about the changes that have come to his life recently due to the competition, referred to his decision to participate in this year’s national final:

“Although music has always been in my life, lately I’ve decided to write more and start collaborating with other musicians. So I decided to join Eesti Laul, as it’s a good way to introduce myself to both Estonian and foreign audiences and to the public of other countries.”

As for the involvement of “House of Glass”, he revealed that it is a song about love and that many people can relate to it. At the same time, it is also a song about the sadness and confusion that a breakup brings to a relationship. He states that the message of his participation can be compared to his effort in musical events, as he has been trying for a long time to succeed in the field and realize his dreams.

“I came up with the chorus melody maybe in my shower but they told me it’s not good! But when I decided to work with Morland (Norway 2015), between several songs he told me that this has the most potential and so we made some changes and ended up with House of Glass!”

Among other things, he himself, talking about his stage presence in the semi-final, commented to us that they don’t want to do much but only what is necessary for the song, while he revealed to us that he will be alone on the stage of Eesti Laul 2023!

Following the announcement of her participation in this year’s Estonian national final, Eesti Laul 2023, SISSI speaks exclusively to EurovisionFun’sApostolos Bogiannos and Apostolis Matamis.

SISSI is among the finalists of this years Eesti Laul and she will try to represent her country in  Eurovision 2023 with the song “Lighthouse“.

“Τhis year there was actually no plan to participate. The previous years we had a plan of making an entry for Eesti Laul, but finally I get to work with a new producer who listened to my song “Lighthouse” and he fell in love with it! At first, it was supposed to be my next single, but after we finished it, he was sure that this song is for Eurovision!”

As SISSI mentioned her song has three layers and works as a therapy for her. It’s a very personal song for her and she wrote it in a very hard period of her life, when she couldn’t even thought of writing a song. Some months before, two member of her family drowned and that’s why water plays a big part also on her music video.

“My song is about grief either on a lost love or a person who will never come back! Through this song I finally got to except my own emotions and all the chaos and beauty that brings to my life. My goal is to inspire other people too!”

Asked about her staging of the song in the national final SISSI said:

“This time I will be more free on the stage! My sister and my mother will be in charge of the stage choreography and we will work on the camera angles but we will not know what exactly I am going to do on the stage!”

Her favorite Estonian entries is Ott Lepland’s  Kuula from 2012 but also she gives a shoutout to songs that ended up on second or third place in the national final of Estonia. In general her favourite Eurovision entries are Portugal 2017, Sweden 2013 and 2012.
