Eurovision 2022: Italy’s second rehearsal

Today is the final day of rehearsals in Turin, with the second rehearsals of the BIG 5 countries!

Next up on stage for their second rehearsal is Italy and Mahmood & BLANCO with the song “Brividi”.

Who are Mahmood & BLANCO?

As with reigning Contest champs Måneskin, Mahmood shot to fame on The X Factor Italia. The Milanese musician released a succession of singles thereafter, and has also put out two full-length albums. The artist’s biggest hit to date has been Soldi, which finished second at Eurovision in 2019 and became the most-streamed Eurovision song of all time on Spotify.

BLANCO is a singer/rapper from Brescia with big aspirations. His 2021 single, Mi Fai Impazzire, spent 8 weeks at the top of the Italian charts, and was followed by the release of debut album, Blu Celeste, which also shot to number one.

The Rehearsal

Mahmood got rid of the sunglasses and Blanco is on stage this time! Mahmood is dressed in black and Blanco in white. Michelangelo, the song’s composer is also on stage playing the piano.

During the second verse Blanco sits on the piano. The staging is similar to their Sanremo performance, dark with white lights. Vocally they weren’t spot on during the first run, but they got an applause.

The second run was better. In the third run they were more comortable, but the vocal issues persisted. Blanco kisses Mahmood on the cheek when the performance ends.

Eurovision 2022: First Rehearsal of Italy!

Today is the sixth day of rehearsals in Turin and the first rehearsals of the BIG 5 countries are going to be held today!

Next up on stage for their first rehearsal is Italy and Mahmood & BLANCO with the song “Brividi“.

Sadly BLANCO will not attend today’s rehearsals, as he’s arriving in Turin later in the week. The grand piano is back, and orchestral arrangement in this song absolutely soars in this arena, with Mahmood and BLANCO (not yet though) lit by every spotlight available. Mahmood’s in a long black leather coat and white wraparound sunglasses.

The changes of pace and the harmonies of this song make it feel like a real goosebumps moment, and Mahmood’s vocal is effortless and on point. It’s not really a pyro kind of song, to be fair. But lots of atmospheric smoke instead, which adds up to Mahmood’s sunglass vibes. Either way, it’s a performance each host nation would be very happy with.

Eurovision 2022: The spectators at the Pala Olimpico must wear a mask!

Italian Health Minister Roberto Speranza announced on Thursday (April 28th) that the use of the mask will be mandatory indoors until June 15th.

The rule states that the use of the FFP2 mask is mandatory on public transport, in cinemas, in theaters and in all sporting events and competitions that take place indoors to reduce the risk of high transmission of COVID-19 infections.

In restaurants, malls and shops the use of a mask is not mandatory but is recommended.

This means that accredited journalists and the public should wear FFP2 masks during their stay inside the Pala Olimpico.

Mahmood: “If I could help Ukraine win, I would do it”!

Mahmood gave a very interesting interview to Corriere della Sera. The artist, who will be on the stage of Eurovision for the second time, spoke about the chances of Italy for a consecutive victory, the participation of Achille Lauro with San Marino and the possible victory of Ukraine in this year’s competition.

Mahmood considers an impossible back-to-back victory of Italy in Eurovision impossible and compares it with the failure of the national football team to qualify for the finals of the Mundial, after winning Euro 2020.

It is impossible for Italy to win for two consecutive years; even with football it went like this: in 2020 the victory and this year the exclusion.

The popular singer would like Ukraine to be the winner, saying that he would do everything in his power to win the Kalush Orchestra.

If it could help in any way, I would make Ukraine win, twenty Eurovisions could never be worth what is happening in this country.

Commenting on Achile Lauro, Mahmood echoed Blanco’s statements, saying he had not participated in Eurovision again with any country other than Italy.

I like this piece more than the one Lauro competed with at the San Remo Festival. I’m happy to be back in this scene for Italy, even though I thought it would never happen again after I went to the competition with Soldi two years ago.

Mahmood returns to the Eurovision stage with Blanco, with the song Brividi:

e mi vengono ivid, brividi.

While the final chorus now is this:

Nudo con i brividi
a volte non so esprimermi
