MTV EMA 2024: Eurovision artists nominated in this year’s awards!

The regional European MTV awards have a strong connection with Eurovision, as many artists emerge each year from the contest and introduce themselves into a wider audience. As a result, there could not be an MTV nominees list without the presence of Eurovision stars.

Eurovision nominees

Specifically, from the class of 2024, we have three artists nominated for their regional award categories:

  • Nemo: Best Swiss Artist
  • Angelina Mango: Best Italian Artist
  • Slimane: Best French Artist

Moreover, Noa Kirel, a multi MTV EMA winner, is once again nominated for Best Israeli Singer and Mahmood, who represented Italy in Eurovision 2019 and 2022, is also nominated for Best Italian SInger.

Last year’s edition of the MTV EMA Awards was ultimately cancelled due to the Israel-Hamas war for security reasons. This year, the Awards will take place in Manchester on November 10.

San Marino: Fans request San Marino RTV to consider Annalisa or Mahmood for Eurovision | The first established artist for UVPSM 2024 will be revealed tomorrow!

The most successful edition of Festival de Sanremo in many years saw its conclusion past Saturday. While, Angelina Mango won the big prize and will therefore represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, she was not the only contestant to draw the audience’s attention.

Except for Angelina Mango, Eurovision fans went crazy for Annalisa’s entry as well as Mahmood’s entry, who has already participated at the Eurovision Song Contest twice. Annalisa finished third overall with her song “Sinceramente“, while Mahmood placed sixth, just outside the top five with “Tuta Gold“. Mahmood and Annalisa are both well-liked by Eurovision fans, who expected their Sanremo 2024 entries to do well on the Eurovision stage.

A request to San Marino RTV

Hence and since they are not able to represent Italy this year, Eurovision fans request San Marino RTV via social media to approach them and send them to Eurovision. In reality, aside from Mahmood, Annalisa has tried her luck in Sanremo numerous times and has failed to win the big prize, so many Eurovision fans who wish to see her in Eurovision believe that representing San Marino may be her last chance.

Indicatively, some of the tweets posted mention that:

“It would be wonderful if San Marino RTV brought @NaliOfficial [Annalisa] to #Eurovision2024”.

“Annalisa please go to the Eurovision with San Marino and win, giving everyone a humiliation!”

“So how do we send Mahmood to compete in Eurovision with San Marino?! @SanMarino_RTV don’t you want to take revenge and win this festival?!”

“I would like to remind San Marino that Annalisa and Mahmood may be available and that they are ready to give us, rightly, the xxxx”

San Marino’s response and the reveal of the established artists for UVPSM 2024

The Secretary of State for Tourism, Federico Pedini Amati spoke to San Marino RTV about the afore-mentioned issue. According to him:

Why not? Anyone can register, the contest is open to everyone, not just those who were in Sanremo. We expect some news. Then we talk about Annalisa, Mahmood or others… I have heard that someone might be really interested and tomorrow we will be able to know more.

It’s not one of these two so we spoil this possibility but if they arrived we would be really very happy . But I’m not saying this because they are singers that we have seen at the Festival now, but because they are very famous singers who would honor and greatly raise the level of our contest too.

Hence, tomorrow the first established artist who will compete in UVPSM 2024 will be revealed.

In case San Marino takes into consideration the fans’ desire, it will not be the first time that a Sanremo participant takes the Eurovision stage representing San Marino. In 2022, Achille Lauro represented San Marino in Turin with his song “Stripper“. A couple weeks prior “Una Voce per San Marino” final, Achille participated in Festival di Sanremo, finishing fourteenth.

Una Voce per San Marino 2024

129 emerging artists will compete in the semi-finals of the Sanmarinese national selection for Malmö, out of which eight will advance to the Grand Final. Those eight artists will be joined in the final by eight artists selected and invited by RTV as established artists. The semi-finals for the emerging artists will take place on February 15 and 16 and will be broadcasted from February 19 to February 23.

The Grand Final of UVPSM 2024 will take place on February 24 at Teatro Nuovo di Dogana and the winner of the selection will therefore have the right to represent the nation at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö in terms of meeting the criteria of eligibility of RTV.

Despite this marathon session of a national selection, Piqued Jacks, UVPSM 2023 winners, did not manage to qualify to the Grand Final, finishing dead least with nul points.

Italy: The artists’ initial reactions upon their participation announcement at Sanremo 2024!

Amadeus revealed the lineup for the 74th edition of the Sanremo Festival just a few hours ago. Many previous winners, successful artists of the Italian music scene as well as Italian superstars make up the lineup, who will compete for the Golden Lion from February 6 to 10 at Sanremo’s Teatro Ariston.

The artists were extremely anxious until Amadeus’ announcement of the competing acts. The chosen artists had no idea whether they’d be on the Amadeus shortlist, as shown on their social media posts, with some of their reactions being literally epic!

Bigmama

Bigmama, despite being only 24 years old, was able to accomplish one of her greatest dreams, to participate at the Sanremo Festival. She is a symbol for many plus-sized women, but she is also an activist for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community in Italy, which adores her.

Bigmama is unable to control her joy and excitement when she hears her name from Amadeus and falls down sobbing in the video posted on Twitter.

Renga and Nek

The classic Italian pop-music enthusiasts just found their favorites on Renga and Nek. It will not be their first time on the stage of Sanremo. Renga took first place at Sanremo in 2005, while Nek finished in second place in 2015. Nek has also given us the now-iconic “Laura non c’e” during his 1997 debut at the festival, which, although it did not win, went on to become a worldwide hit.

When Amadeus announced their participation, they were in the kitchen getting ready for lunch as their faces lit up.

Mr. Rain

Mr Rain’s participation in this year’s Sanremo festival gave him the necessary boost in his career, in addition to a third place finish. Mr Rain returns to the Festival in 2024 following a successful season with sold out shows all over Italy. Mr Rain’s intentions are revealed in the laconic video he uploaded.

Alessandra Amoroso

Sanremo’s biggest surprise was definitely Alessandra Amoroso. Not only Amadeus, but also his predecessors, have been begging her to perform at the Sanremo Festival for many years. Everyone’s pleas were heard this time, and Alessandra will participate at this huge musical celebration.

Along with a photo showing her back, a small text accompanied her post on X following the announcement of her participation, mentioning:

With an eye on everything that will happen from now on. As if it were the first time on stage. On that stage for the first time.

Il Volo

Following their extremely successful world tour, Il Volo will return once again to Sanremo aiming to win. The Amadeus’ announcement found them in flight, but that did not stop them from watching the artists’ announcement live.

Negramaro

Negramaro is one of Italy’s most well-known pop bands and they are also the big favorites to win, according to the early betting. The group appears to be taking their participation in Sanremo 2024 very seriously, as evidenced by a special video for their participation.

Mahmood

Having already won the festival twice in just four years, Mahmood will claim the the victory once again, while he’s a favorite of the press. With a quite humorous post, Mahmood reacted to his participation at the Sanremo 2024.

The winner of the 2023 edition of the Sanremo Festival was Marco Mengoni with his song “Due Vite“. Mengoni accepted the RAI invitation and represented his home country at the Eurovision stage for the second time, finishing 4th overall. His single “Due Vite” went to become a major success in Italy and was recently awarded as a five-times platinum record.

Italy : Blanco will not be present in the First Rehearsal of Eurovision 2022!

According to the Italian newspaper “La Stampa“, Blanco will not attend Italy’s first rehearsal for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022!

It is reported that the singer Blanco, who is going to represent Italy with Mahmood and the song Brividi, will not take part in the first rehearsal of Italy and the press conference that will follow, due to his Blu Celeste Tour which is due to have a show on May 5 at the TuscanyHall in Florence.

It is unknown at this time if Blanco will be replaced by a “stand-in” singer who will sing with Mahmood in the first rehearsal, as was the case when Flo Rida couldn’t attend the first rehearsal of San Marino in Eurovision 2021.

Mahmood: “If I could help Ukraine win, I would do it”!

Mahmood gave a very interesting interview to Corriere della Sera. The artist, who will be on the stage of Eurovision for the second time, spoke about the chances of Italy for a consecutive victory, the participation of Achille Lauro with San Marino and the possible victory of Ukraine in this year’s competition.

Mahmood considers an impossible back-to-back victory of Italy in Eurovision impossible and compares it with the failure of the national football team to qualify for the finals of the Mundial, after winning Euro 2020.

It is impossible for Italy to win for two consecutive years; even with football it went like this: in 2020 the victory and this year the exclusion.

The popular singer would like Ukraine to be the winner, saying that he would do everything in his power to win the Kalush Orchestra.

If it could help in any way, I would make Ukraine win, twenty Eurovisions could never be worth what is happening in this country.

Commenting on Achile Lauro, Mahmood echoed Blanco’s statements, saying he had not participated in Eurovision again with any country other than Italy.

I like this piece more than the one Lauro competed with at the San Remo Festival. I’m happy to be back in this scene for Italy, even though I thought it would never happen again after I went to the competition with Soldi two years ago.

Mahmood returns to the Eurovision stage with Blanco, with the song Brividi:

Italy: “Brividi” goes 4x platinum in Italy!

Mahmood’s and Blanco’s song “Brividi” has been certified 4 times platinum in Italy.

“Brividi”, Italy’s entry for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, has received four times platinum certification. This award comes just two months after the song won the 72nd Sanremo Festival and it has been streamed and downloaded over 400,000 times since then. Upon its release, the song broke the record with the most streams in 24 hours on the Italian Spotify.

Mahmood-Blanco

On Spotify it has over 73,000,000 streams, while on TikTok it is the song that has been used in most videos compared to the rest of this year’s competition. Click here so you can see the complete ranking of the songs that had the most videos on TikTok.

This is not the first time that an Italian Eurovision entry has had a large number of pre-competition sales and streams, with “Zitti e buoni”, “Occidentali’s Karma”, “Non mi avete fatto niente” and Mahmoud’s “Soldi”, all reaching at least platinum status in Italy before their respective contests.

Italy will appear in 9th place on Saturday in the Grand Final on May 14th.
