Ukraine: The non-political character has been ensured.

The war in Ukraine continues, with the state broadcaster still continuing preparations for Eurovision participation in Turin.

Τhe Head of the Managing Board of UA: PBC,  Mykola Chernotytskyi, said

We believe that Ukraine’s representation at Eurovision is an important part of the country’s participation in European life. It is also our representation. The band representing the country also has an important mission to promote Ukraine. That’s why I hope that they will win,”

The leader of Kalush Orchestra, Oleh Psiuk, revealed the details of the stage costumes of the band members at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.

The panama hat will be there for sure. Blue and yellow symbols will be there too. The costumes will differ by 50%.

Oleksii Zhembrovskyi, director of Ukraine’s performance at Eurovision 2022, explained how the non-political character was ensured.

In the dialogue with the EBU, we encountered this issue several times during the development phase of the performance, and have already reworked it several times, following all the requirements. Therefore, this issue has already been resolved and will visually look decent. For the director, first of all, it is important not only to visualize the song, but also to convey its energy. The best thing for us is the strength of our guys’ spirit and the power of our native land’s energy. Therefore, all the visual effects we use will be focused on this. The spotlight will, of course, be on the artist who transmits this energy, and the visual effects will paint the ornament of the Ukrainian soul,”

Ukraine: Kalush Orchestra will perform live at Eurovision 2022!

According to the Ukrainian public broadcaster, Suspilne , the Kalush Orchestra will be present in Turin!

This year, the representatives of Ukraine decided that the best they can do for their country is to support it through direct communication with the European public. The band’s frontman Oleg Psyuk stated in Lviv:

Until recently, Ukraine’s participation in Eurovision was in question, but now we can definitely announce that KALUSH ORCHESTRA is going to Turin and will perform live at Eurovision

So for the first time since the beginning of the Russian invasion in Ukraine, the group gathered in Lviv and began the preparations for Turin. Also, Kalush Orchestra will take part in a number of promotional concerts over the coming weeks and is planning to raise funds to aid the reconstruction of Ukrainian cities affected by the war. Frontman of the group, Oleg Psyuk said:

Through our speeches, we want to raise funds for the reconstruction of Ukrainian cities affected by the war. Many mass events dedicated to Eurovision are taking place now.

Earlier this week the Deputy Director of Rai 1, the host broadcaster of Eurovision 2022, confirmed that Ukraine had been exempted from the requirement to film a live-on-tape performance for the contest.

Ukraine will perform in the 6th place of the first semi-final in May.

Ukraine: The country is exempted from being required to film a Live-on-Tape performance!

Claudio Fasulo, the vice president of Rai 1, reveiled that Ukraine has been exempted from having to film a Live-on-Tape performance for Eurovision 2022.

The vice president of Rai 1, confirmed that Ukraine is excluded from the requirement of filming a live performance for the contest.

During the event of FIMI today, Mr. Fasulo explained:

Given the conditions we have waived the fact that the live-on-tape must be made with certain characteristics: eventually, we would use the video of their selection (Vidbir performance).

The Ukrainian delegation haw programmed to film their performance in Lviv in western Ukraine, however, the city became a target of Russian bombing the past weeks.

What is Live On tape?

According to what was announced, all participating broadcasters were asked to record a live performance of their participation in their country or somewhere else. This recording will be delivered before the contest and will take place in a studio. The recording will take place in real time (as it would in the Contest) without making changes to the vocals or any part of the show itself after the recording.

There will be freedom in the missions, to present as they consider their entries better, but instructions will be given which will ensure the fairness and integrity of the competition. There will be no audience and the recording should be unique and not be published before the event in May.

Delegations are allowed to use similar technical capabilities and dimensions that would be available on stage in Rotterdam, but are also free to choose a more limited production facility. Video recordings must not contain augmented or virtual reality, overlays, confetti, drone shots, water, color use or green screen.

It’s the second year that Live-on-Tape videos are required by the participants. These videos will be used instead of the live performance on stage in Turin, in the event that a delegation is not able to travel in May, or a member of the delegation is diagnosed with COVID-19 before the first rehearsals take place.

Eurovision 2022: Seven songs that won the televoting but not the national final!

The national finals of the Eurovision 2022 have been completed! We now know all the artists and songs that will compete in Turin in May and fight for the win.

Out of the 40 participating countries, 28 selected their representative through  a national final, while only 12 by an internal selection.

In this tribute we will have a look at seven entries that won the televoting in their country’s national final, but the judges had a different opinion, which resulted in them being deprived of the victory.

Australia

The rock band Voyager, with the song Dreamer, was the winner of the Australian televoting. However, the third place awarded to them by the judges was enough to cost them the win.

Czech Republic

The Czech Republic has continued its selection through an online national final this year. The Czech public chose as the winners Jordan Haj and Emma Smetana, who are very well known in the country, with the song By Now. However, the last place given to them by the international jury deprived them of the victory.

North Macedonia

After many years, North Macedonia has returned with a national final for its participation. The winner of the TV audience was Viktor Apostolovski with Superman. Although he tied with Andrea on the first place, after the votes were tallied the country’s public television decided to override the jury’s score, in which he was in the third place.

Romania

Romania, who recorded three eliminations in recent years, came back with a national final. A choice that, however, disappointed the fanbase of the country, as the percentage of preference of the TV audience was only 10%, with the remaining 90% belonging to the jury, which, as expected, determined the final result.

The winner of the televoting with a small difference and yet a small percentage was Dora Gaitanovici with the song Ana, who came sixth in the jury.

Spain

The fan favorite Tanxugueiras, with the song Terra, achieved an unbelievable 70.75% in the Spanish public vote. However, the panel of experts ranked them fifth, which resulted in them not only failing to achieve the victory but also creating a lot of drama.

Sweden

Anders Bagge with the song Bigger than the Universe, won the vote of the Swedish TV audience by a large margin. However, the international judges ranked it eighth, and as a result, it ended up losing the win.

Ukraine

Alina Pash with Tini Zabutykh Predkiv was the winner of Vidbir 2022. Although she withdrew from Eurovision due to her way of entering Crimea, she was the runner-up in the TV audience vote.

Winners of the televoting and subsequent representatives of Ukraine in Eurovision 2022, by a wide margin, were the Kalush Orchestra with their song Stefania. In the jury votes they were the runner-up.

These were the seven countries whose result was overturned by the jury, without letting the televoters’ choice be heard and calling into question the objectivity and existence of the juries once again.

Ukraine: The thriller ends | Kalush Orchestra goes to Turin!

This year’s thriller with the Ukrainian participation in Eurovision 2022, has just ended. According to the country’s public television official announcement, the Kalush Orchestra will eventually represent the country in Turin after the withdrawal of national final winner Alina Pash from the process.

It may have been a whole week since the end of Vidbir, the national final for Eurovision, but Ukraine has only managed to find a representative today. The forced withdrawal of Alina Pash, since according to the complaints, she presented fake entry certificates for her trip to Crimea in 2015, brought a domino of developments with the final result that the Kalush Orchestra took over the representation of the country in the competition.

The Kalush Orchestra with their song Stefania took second place in Vidbir 2022, but having received the most votes from the audience. On Thursday (17/2), the Ukrainian public television addressed a request to the band, to replace Alina Pash in Eurovision 2022.

We remind you that the Kalush Orchestra had denounced the process after their defeat in the national final, claiming that these were the real winners.

Do you think that Kalush Orchestra’s Stefania is a better choice for Ukraine in the contest than Alina Pash?

Greece: Listen to a teaser from Stefania’s “Mucho Calor”!

Shortly before its official release on June 25, Stefania presents a 30-second teaser of her new single entitled, Mucho Calor. The song will be presented for the first time on the stage of MAD VMA 2021!

You also read about the history of the song in our previous article. Mucho Calor has karmic relation to the contest, since three times in the past it came close to representing either Greece or Cyprus, but the final choice was always different.

Mucho Calor was originally submitted to ERT for Eurovision 2020. Although the song was first in the focus group voting that dream team held that year, SUPERG! RL was finally chosen, as a song that Stefania could better support.

Then the composers of the song suggested it to Sandro, who even recorded it and it was one of the songs that RIK had on the table, for the Cypriot representation at Eurovision 2020. But Sandro wanted a song that would have his personal of touch and so the song did not end there either.

With some changes, Mucho Calor, but also with a different title (Inferno), the song was submitted in 2021 to ERT. In fact, the artistic committee of the Greek public television initially wanted this to be the song with which Stefania would represent Greece in Rotterdam. Finally, considering the scenarios for the stage presentation, but also other factors, such as the voting of the juries, Last Dance was chosen.
