San Marino: Una Voce per San Marino 2024 will include an AI produced entry!

It has now become a reality. AI, namely Artificial Intelligence, is ready to compete on the Eurovision stage for the first time in history, and San Marino might be the first to do so.

RTV, the Sanmarinese broadcaster, will join forces with the Casperaki startup, in order to produce a song that will take part in UVPSM.

The procedure

According to the London-based startup, everyone who considers himself creative, even without the musical expertise, can apply and create a song that may be the one to represent San Marino at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö.

  • As of yesterday, November 27, the applications at Casperaki Studio are open. The applicants can work the mixing consoles with Casperaki, Sugar Tunez, Flowmaster, and Albert Einstein and submit entries until January 15, 2024. Those interested can submit as many entries as they want.
  • The applications are also open for singers, who shall send their applications via email and include a link to a YouTube video showing them perform.
  • Out of all the submitted entries, a committee representing both Casperaki and San Marino will review and select the best entries, making a shortlist.
  • On January 2024, a songwriting camp will take place in London, where the shortlisted “songwriters” will be able to work with industry pros to refine their submissions and record the versions presented to San Marino.
  • The announcement of the top contenders will happen in early February 2024.
  • Finally, the first AI produced entry participating at a national final will be announced mid February 2024.

Una Voce per San Marino 2024

In the Grand Final of UVPSM 202416 participants will compete, 8 from each category(established – emerging artists). Both “established” and “emerging” artists will be able to sing only one of their songs in the Grand Final.

The Grand Final of Una Voce per San Marino is scheduled for March 2 2024. It will be held in Teatro Nuovo di Dogana, the same venue that hosted the selection in 2022 and 2023. The winner will be decided by a qualified jury.

The idea behind this AI initiative is that anyone can be an artist and that our shared creativity does not have to be translated into musical experience. Who else but San Marino would have carried out the aforementioned initiative, given that it is a country that loves to experiment and is always open to new ideas.

What’s left to see is how will the EBU react to the now possible scenario of an AI produced Eurovision entry, a topic highly debatable among the executives.

Piqued Jacks, UVPSM 2023 winners, represented San Marino in Eurovision 2023 but did not manage to qualify to the Grand Final, finishing dead least with nul points.
