Kazakhstan: The country will not return to Junior Eurovision 2024!
Earlier today, Khabar, the public broadcaster of Kazakhstan, announced through the director of content acquisition, that the country will not return to Junior Eurovision 2024, having the 2022 contest as its last participation!
However, Khabar Agency stated that the Contest is a unique and important event that promotes new talents. As one of the reasons for their abstention from the Contest, they cite the high cost of participation and the new time slot of the Contest at 18:00 CET (21:00 local time in Astana), which the channel considers difficult for the country’s audience.
“Khabar Agency appreciates the uniqueness and importance of the contest that promotes the development of talents and cultural exchange between the younger generations of different countries. In order to participate, as well as to broadcast such a large-scale event, the following payments must be made: participation fee, purchase of broadcasting license rights, technical services for a satellite channel, production of music videos and original songs, organization of the participation of representatives and tax obligations. The final amount of all costs is very high, the Agency does not have such funds. In addition, this format of the show shows a low rating of the TV show every year, and the grand final of the contest takes place at an inappropriate time for the Kazakhstan audience. In this regard, the Agency is forced to inform that it will not be able to participate in the current year 2024, but it does not lose hope of returning in the near future”
