Italy: There will be no songs about immigration and war at the Sanremo 2025!
The Sanremo Festival is just around the corner, and the countdown has begun for the announcement of the names of the artists who will participate. These will be revealed by Carlo Conti during the 1:30 PM TG1 broadcast on Sunday, December 1st.
In the meantime, the artistic director of the event was a guest on the Pezzi podcast, where he revealed that at least 20 artists have already been chosen, and that the song lyrics will not cover topics such as immigration and war.
Carlo Conti on the Lyrics of Sanremo Songs
The artists performing at SanremoGiovani 2025 will exceed twenty, a number Carlo Conti had set before hearing the songs proposed to him. He confirmed this during his appearance on the Pezzi podcast, stating that even the lyrics of the songs have undergone changes in terms of the topics they address:
There will definitely be more than 24 artists. How many am I sure of? I have 20 in mind, for sure. With names and songs, first and foremost, but also with the content. I see Sanremo as a big mosaic or a bouquet of flowers. But there is one innovation: what I like, and what has come through the songs, is no longer a ‘macro world’—they don’t talk about immigration or war—but we’re returning to speak about the ‘micro world,’ about family and personal relationships. I’m talking about the lyrics of this year’s songs. More human things from the micro world around us, family relationships. Everything is very personal, rather than looking outward.
Additionally, Conti mentioned several more names of well-known artists in the Italian music scene who are expected to take part in the festival, such as Al Bano Carrisi and younger singers like Fedez and Tony Effe, who have been considered for a potential duet with Emis Killa. Conti also stated that the number of female singers participating this year will be higher compared to previous years. One of the names that came up as a participant was the Italian rapper Anna.
Finally, Conti addressed the possible controversies that often surround the Festival, especially concerning the potential lyrics of the songs in competition:
I’m not afraid of controversy. But I can say that even the rappers have brought songs that are more oriented toward pop. They are evolving; they haven’t brought aggressive content, and I’ve heard songs that are anything but banal. Among the big artists, you may see someone who hasn’t come through a talent show and is less well-known than a young person from the giovani category who’s come from a talent show.
Although the official list of participants in the Sanremo Festival will be announced tomorrow during the TG1 broadcast at 1:30 PM Italian time, recent leaks suggest that many of Italy’s past Eurovision representatives are expected to return to the festival, including Francesco Gabbani (Italy’s representative at Eurovision 2017), Achille Lauro (San Marino’s representative at Eurovision 2022), Blanco (who represented Italy with Alessandro Mahmood as hosts at Eurovision 2022), Emma Marrone (Italy’s representative at Eurovision 2014), Al Bano Carrisi and Romina Power (Italy’s representatives at Eurovision 1976 and 1985), and the duo Jalisse (Italy’s representatives at Eurovision 1997). Now, Nina Zilli, who represented Italy at Eurovision 2012, has also been added to the list. Furthermore, a list of artists expected to participate in the festival has leaked:

The song with the most votes will be declared the winner of the festival.
