Kosovo: The song that would represent the country in Eurovision 2025, if allowed!

The second edition of Festivali i Këngës në RTK was broadcasted live from Pristina, Kosovo, last night. The Kosovar festival follows in the footsteps of the homonymous Albanian festival, one of the most significant music stages in the nation with over six decades of history. Should Kosovo be permitted to compete in the Eurovision stage, the Festivali i Këngës në RTK will serve as the national selection process.

Following two semi-finals, nine artists competed in the final of FiK në RTK:

  • Arnite Kastrati – “Blla blla”
  • Besmir Shishko – “Unë Ajo”
  • Rei Bezhani – “Zonjë tradhti”
  • Endrit Krasniqi – “Flas me gjethen”
  • Ardit Stafaj – “Faji”
  • Greta Azizi – “Veres”
  • Dea Strica – “N’Shqipni”
  • Agim Poshka – “Ndarja erdhi”
  • Blendi Kaso – “Një të vetme ka në jetë”.

Following the voting of a five member jury, Endrit Krasniqi was crowned as the winner of Festivali i Këngës në RTK 2024 with his song “Flas me gjethen” and would represent Kosovo in Eurovision 2025, in case its participation was allowed by the EBU.

Eurovision 2025 – Kosovo

Kosovo’s intention to be a part of the Eurovision family is no secret. RTK has tried for years to secure the nation’s spots to EBU’s shows, since the nation’s independence declaration.

Moreover, RTK decided to make an official application in order to participate in the next edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2025, which will be held in Switzerland. Via a formal letter, RTK asked Kosovo to be invited to participate in Eurovision 2025, in a similar way Australia also participates. Despite RTK’s effort, the broadcaster has not received the coveted invitation from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

In order for Kosovo to become a member of the EBU, and thus be able to participate in Eurovision, it must first join the International Telecommunication Union  (ITU) or the Council of Europe. Kosovo has yet to achieve any of these, due to its partial recognition.

Considering the political implications that occurred during Eurovision 2024, the inclusion of a country that is not recognized by all the participating states might was a harder decision than it may seem.
