Eurovision 2024: Ireland’s First Rehearsal!

Next up onstage for their first rehearsal in Malmö Arena is Bambie Thug from Ireland with the unique song Doomsday Blue”!

Who is Bambie Thug?

Bambie Thug breaks gender and socio-political stereotypes to create a sound that defines its time, with elements of pop, rock, electronic and more.

“Doomsday Blue” speaks to the feeling of overlooking your potential and is an ode to the queer community.

Bambie is no stranger to the big stage, having torn up stages at festivals around the world, including Download Festival, The Great Escape and Trans Musicales, earning critical acclaim.

The Rehearsal

Bambie is inside a circle of candles, wearing a black dress with a tutu skirt and shoulder horns. Their usual dramatic white face makeup is topped with hair styled into antlers. There’s also a bare-chested dancer giving centaur vibes, who accompanies Bambie in some balletic choreography.

In the final section the candle circle raises up, and the big screamo finish concludes with a graphic backdrop of CROWN THE WITCH. Pure Eurovision theatre, and testament to the diversity of musical styles we’re going to see at Eurovision this year.

PYRO UPDATE: In the final run-through there is both low-level ground smoke throughout, AND our first flame jets of the day, right at the end. We are twenty metres from the stage and can feel the heat.

Finland: Changes in their Eurovision Performance!

A few days before the start of our favorite competition all countries are ready to start rehearsals! Just before taking the stage for the first rehearsal, Finland’s representative Windows95Man shared some information about their stage performance!

Initially, as he stated, he does not know if he is allowed to wear the skin-colored underwear he wore in the Finnish final. He was also forced to make changes to his T-shirt logo as he was not allowed to have the Windows logo on it. So, the artist chose a new t-shirt, with a blurred logo. Speaking tou YLE he stated:

“I have six different (options). Let’s start with the wildest of them and go to the goofiest if the EBU insists.”

He then revealed that in addition to Henri Piispanen, there will also be two dancers with him, one of whom (Jesse Winjnans) was also last year in the Finnish entry with “Cha Cha Cha”

The emblematic “egg” we saw in the national final of Finland will also be on the Eurovision stage.

Finland is scheduled to take part in the First Semi-Final on 7th of May, claiming one of the 10 tickets for the Grand Final of Saturday 11th of May.

Cyprus: “Maybe it was the best rehearsal we ever had!”

Immediately after the end of the first rehearsal of Silia Kapsis, Eurovisionfun contacted both the Cypriot delegation and the artistic team to inform you about their impression.

Silia and the entire team were amazing

Despite the various issues that existed in the video of the stand-in-rehearsal received by CyBC a week ago, this time everything was perfect.

The organizers took into account all the comments of the Cypriot delegation and Silia’s first rehearsal went impeccable.

The entire stage concept prepared by the artistic team was 100% rendered on stage. The leds and lighting move to the rhythm of the choreography and play a very important role in Liar’s stage appearance. Everything was well tuned, and vocally Silia was fantastic! The four dancers, with their energy and youthfulness, make Liar one of the freshest stage entries of this year’s competition.

There is almost nothing to be corrected

In our question if there was anything they could fix for the second rehearsal, the answer was that there are only very little things.

“Maybe it was the best rehearsal we ever had!”

The next rehearsal of Cyprus is on Wednesday, 1/5 at 12.30 CET. Stay tuned for the TikTok video, but also for a short video to publicized by CyBC!

Eurovision 2024: Lithuania’s First Rehearsal!

The third act to perform on the Eurovision stage today is the talented Silvester Belt from Lithuania, with his song Luktelk!

Who is Silvester Belt?

Music has been an integral part of Silvester’s life since he was a child.

His songs are inspired by personal life experiences, particularly his memories of exploring his sexuality in a homophobic environment and how the repression of those feelings deeply affected him.

“Luktelk” (translation: “wait”/”hold on”) is about being stuck in a gap between two stages, in barely existing and feeling alive when you have to hold on and dance through what life throws at you.

Silvester also participated in the Vaikų Eurovizijos Nacionalinė Atranka – Lithuania’s qualifying competition for Junior Eurovision in 2010.

The Rehearsal

The staging for this needs no props – similar to the Lithuanian national finals, EUROVIZIJA.LT – it’s Silvester in his red leather suit, backed by four male dancers with masked faces and lots of red and back strobe lighting. The masks have had an upgrade – less like turtlenecks and more like black hoods. No pyro for Lithuania but according to our exclusive information a new dancebreak has been added to the song!

The second rehearsal of Lithuania will take place on Wednesday May 1st, when we will have a better picture of what we will see from Silvester Belt on the Eurovision stage, as we will have the official TV snippet.

Eurovision 2024: Serbia’s First Rehearsal!

Next up on the Malmö stage for her first rehearsal is the Serbian participant Teya Dora, with her heartbreaking ballad Ramonda!

Who is Teya Dora?

Blending modern pop with traditional Balkan influences and honest lyrics, Teya Dora’s music has resonated with millions of listeners worldwide.

She is one of the artists with the most monthly listeners on Spotify in the Balkans (having reached over 3 million monthly listeners) thanks to her song “Džanum”, who went viral on TikTok and becabe a global hit.

Despite personal challenges, including the loss of her father, Teya’s music remains an expression of hope and resilience.

She graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, before focusing on writing her own music. She wrote her first song, “Da na Meni je,” in late 2018 and released the track in July of the following year. The song was an instant success and gave her a rapid influx of recognition in the Serbian music industry.

Her favourite singer is Marija Šerifović, who won the Eurovision Song Contest for Serbia in 2007.

The Rehearsal

The staging for this song is very similar to when TEYA DORA won Pesma za Evroviziju, Serbia’s national finals, back in March. A big rock (we think the same one as the NF, but can’t been 100% sure), shadowy lighting, graphics of clouds and stars and lightning, finishing with a blooming ramonda flower.

TEYA DORA’s costume is a dark grey dress with a long layered skirt – all very dramatic and atmospheric.

PYRO UPDATE! Lots and lots of smoke in the final run through, so that’s what you’ll see on 7th May. For art fans, it reminds us of Caspar David Friedrich’s Wanderer above the Sea of Fog. Niche, we know.

The second rehearsal of Serbia will take place on Wednesday May 1st, when we will have a better picture of what we will see from Teya Dora on the Eurovision stage, as we will have the official TV snippet.

Eurovision 2024: Cyprus’ First Rehearsal!

The moment all eurofans have been waiting for is finally here! The first rehearsals of Eurovision 2024 have started! The first artist to set foot on the Eurovision stage of Malmö Arena is Silia Kapsis from Cyprus, with her energetic bop Liar!

Who is Silia Kapsis?

Despite only being 17 years old, Silia Kapsis is already a succesful artist in Australia where she resides, as she has her own TV show in Nickelodeon Australia!

She sings and dances amazingly, and as she revealed to Eurovisionfun her big childhood dream was to perform on the Eurovision stage.

Silia is a singer of Cypriot and Greek descent, born in Sydney, Australia, on December 5, 2006 to the Cypriot singer Giorgos Kapsis and the Greek lawyer and former dancer Despina Saivanidis. She has been performing since the age of 4 and has had extensive training with elite artists at the top of their respective fields.

She has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Bobby McCloughan Creative Arts Award (130 Anniversary Award) at Claremont College, the St Vincent’s College Madame Christian Scholarship for Singing and most recently, she was the recipient of the Village Nation Performing Arts College Scholarship for All – Round Triple Threat Performer.

She composed her first single “Who Am I?” at the age of 12, but it was released later, only in 2022. Since then she has released three more singles – “No Boys Allowed”, in March 2023, “Disco Dancer”, in May 2023, and “Night Out”, in November 2023.

The Rehearsal

Silia is only 17, but she’s owning this stage like performing in a huge arena is a walk in the park. The gold lamé costume from the official video has been replaced with trousers and a crop top in sparkly white, with four male backing dancers in cargo pants and baggy white t-shirts. No stage props, but lots of swirly green and red graphics on the LED backdrop and floor. The LED graphics look like watery swirls and sine waves and they’re all choreographed to the beat of the music.

Fans of Silia’s dancing will be happy to hear that this performance has a high energy routine and a huge dance break before the bridge into the final chorus – just the kind of upbeat number we need to get the party started on May 7th. Also should mention that the dancers pull their shirts off in the final chorus.
