Eurovision 2025: Ticket pre-registration faces bot challenges

The Eurovision Song Contest is gearing up for its 2025 edition in Basel, and ticket pre-registration has drawn significant interest, with 500,000 entries recorded. However, many of these registrations have been flagged as fake, posing a logistical challenge for organizers.

Thomas Pittino, the marketing director of the ESC, stated that between one-third and half of all registrations are suspected to be bots or fake accounts. These fraudulent entries are often linked to ticket resellers looking to profit by buying and reselling tickets at higher prices. Pittino shared this information with Swiss media outlet SRF, highlighting efforts to filter out inauthentic registrations.

With only 50,000 to 60,000 seats available across the nine shows scheduled at Basel’s St. Jakobshalle, organizers are working to ensure tickets are allocated to genuine fans.

Ticket sales details

Pre-registration for tickets closed on January 10, and those who successfully registered will have access to purchase tickets starting January 29 at 10:00 AM. Ticket prices range from 40 to 350 Swiss francs, depending on the show and seating category.

Given the limited number of seats and high interest, tickets are expected to sell out quickly. Organizers are hopeful that their measures will reduce fraudulent activities and support a fair ticketing process.

After Nemo‘s triumph in Malmö, Switzerland’s national broadcaster SRG is hosting this year’s competition. You can listen to their winning song, “The Code” below.

Greece: Early Betting Odds for the National Final – A Two-Horse Race!

After a slight delay, EurovisionFun‘s beloved column on betting odds makes its highly-anticipated return! What better way to kick off the road to the 69th Eurovision Song Contest than with a deep dive into the odds for Greece’s national final, set to take place in less than three weeks?

Following yesterday’s release of the 12 competing entries for the January 30th show, fans are busy choosing their favorites while bookmakers have already crunched the numbers. Here’s an overview of the key trends emerging from the first 24 hours of betting for Greece’s national selection.

A Tight Battle

At the moment, only two major Greek betting platforms, Stoiximan and Novibet, are offering odds for the national final. The early predictions point to a duel between Evangelia and Klavdia for the honor of representing Greece in Basel.

Evangelia Leads the Pack

The frontrunner is none other than Evangelia. The 32-year-old fan favorite, who has been a Eurovision dream for years, is now firmly in pole position to follow in Marina Satti’s footsteps and bring Greece to the Eurovision stage. Evangelia’s high-energy entry, “Vále”, is set to teach Europe the dance of the Pentozali, and her victory is currently being offered at odds of 1.55 to 1.60.

Klavdia: The Contender

Not far behind is Klavdia, a 22-year-old artist who has come close to the Eurovision dream in the past but is ready to make her breakthrough this year. Her captivating song, “Asteromata”, has made her a serious contender. Both Stoiximan and Novibet place her in second position, just behind Evangelia, with odds ranging from 2.20 to 2.40 for a victory.

BARBZ in Third

Rounding out the top three is BARBZ (Varvara Argyrou). With her haunting track “Sirens”, she stands out among the competition, though her odds at 6.5 suggest a tough climb to overtake Evangelia and Klavdia. However, her chances are not to be overlooked, as she could disrupt the frontrunners’ momentum.

Other Contenders

After the leading trio, there is some variation in the rankings between bookmakers:

  • Xannova Xan (Kalli Georgelli) and Kostas Ageris are battling for fourth and fifth, with Stoiximan favoring Xannova at 15 and Kostas at 18, while Novibet reverses their positions with odds of 12.50 and 14.
  • Sixth are Konstantinos Christoforou & Kostas Karafotis, whose duet “Paradeisos” has odds ranging between 17 and 20.
  • Close behind are the lively sisters of Dinamiss, whose “Odyssey” returns odds around 20, followed by Andy Nicolas, whose emotional “Lost My Way” is priced at 25.

The remaining competitors lag significantly, with Nafsika Gavrilaki and Thanos Lamprou sitting at 45, while Rikki and the duet of Georgina Kalais & John Vlaseros trail with odds over 50, reaching 60 in some cases.

Greece’s National Final: Key Details

The Greek National Final will take place live on January 30, 2025, at the Christmas Theater in Athens. Hosted by Greek music icons Helena Paparizou and Sakis Rouvas, the event will decide the artist representing Greece in Basel.

Voting System

The winner will be chosen using a combined voting system:

  • 25% from an international jury panel
  • 25% from a domestic jury panel
  • 50% from the public vote

The 12 Competing Entries

  1. Klavdia – Asteromata
  2. Evangelia – Vale
  3. Thanos Lambrou – Free Love
  4. Konstantinos Christoforou & Kostas Karafotis – Paradisos
  5. Xannova Xan – Play it
  6. Andy Nicolas – Lost My Way
  7. BARBZ – Sirens
  8. Dinamiss – Odyssey
  9. Kostas Ageris – Gi mou
  10. Nafsika – “Unhurt me
  11. Rikki – “Elevator
  12. Georgina Kalais & John Vlaseros – “High Road

The Question

Will Evangelia fulfill the bookmakers’ predictions and secure Greece’s ticket to Basel, or will Klavdia defy the odds? Could BARBZ or a dark horse change the game entirely?

Germany: ARD aims on winning Eurovision Song Contest 2025!

Germany seems determined on getting its third victory in Eurovision, following last year’s unexpected positive result. The public broadcaster has assembled a strong and experienced team to achieve this ambitious goal.

As we’ve already informed you, the new selection process is a collaboration between ARD, RTL, and Stefan Raab, whose name is synonymous with Germany’s successful Eurovision results. However, this partnership may not continue if the country gets another negative result. According to broadcaster officials, the collaboration was established with the sole purpose of winning, not merely participating.

In a recent interview, ARD’s program director, Christine Strobl, expressed confidence that the collaboration with Raab could lead to victory:

“Our goal is and will remain victory. We are not considering what happens if we fail. Nothing less than a win justifies such a partnership.”

Stefan Raab shares this sentiment, having taken full responsibility for Germany’s final outcome:

“I’m not doing this to finish second or third. The national team never says: we want to come in third. If we finish second, you can punish me later, I’ll still be here.”

Chefsache ESC 2025

Chefsache ESC 2025 will feature 24 acts. The competition includes two heats, a semi-final, and a grand final. While RTL will broadcast the heats and the semi-final, the Grand Final will be aired on Das Erste.

Key dates for Chefsache ESC 2025 are as follows:

  • Heat 1: February 14
  • Heat 2: February 15
  • Semi-Final: February 22
  • Grand Final: March 1

Seven acts will advance to the semi-final from each heat. A total of nine finalists will then compete in the Grand Final, where the winner will be chosen to represent Germany at Eurovision 2025 in Basel.

During the heats and semi-final, a professional jury, led by Eurovision veteran Stefan Raab, will evaluate the performances and decide which acts will qualify. However, the Grand Final will leave the decision entirely in the hands of the public, ensuring that Germany’s Eurovision representative reflects the nation’s choice.

The previous representative of Germany in Eurovision 2024, was Isaak with his song “Always on the Run” which ended up in 12th place of the Grand Final:
