BREAKING NEWS: Turkish public broadcaster to file a complaint with the EBU if “Asteromata” addresses the Pontic Genocide
Reactions appear to have been sparked among Greece’s eastern neighbors regarding Asteromata. According to Turkish websites covering the contest, the country’s public broadcaster is reportedly planning to file a complaint with the EBU if the allegations they have received about Greece’s Eurovision 2025 entry are confirmed.
Although Klaudia, immediately after her victory in the national final on January 30, clarified that her song is not about a specific event but rather about all people who have been forced to leave their homeland due to wars and conflicts, the Turks seem to be displeased.

According to the Eurovision Türkiye account, which has over 50,000 followers across all social media platforms, Turkey’s public broadcaster TRT confirmed in a conversation with them that they have also received these reports and intend to investigate the matter. If they determine that Asteromata is about the Pontic Genocide, they will file an official complaint with the EBU.
The Pontic Genocide refers to the mass killings and forced deportations of Pontic Greeks by the Ottoman Empire between 1914 and 1922, as part of a broader campaign against Christian minorities. While Greece, Armenia, and several other countries officially recognize these events as genocide, Turkey denies that a genocide took place, arguing that the deaths were part of the broader chaos of World War I.
Despite not participating in the contest since 2013, TRT remains an active and influential member of the EBU. Eurovisionfun will, of course, continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated on any new developments.
