Eurovision 2024: “ESC – The Countdown” will be held for another year!

For another year, the public broadcasters of Austria, Germany, and Switzerland are hosting “ESC – The Countdown”, a TV party that is broadcast live from the Eurovision host city and offers fans in the three countries additional content about their favourite competition.

This television show was originally broadcast only in Germany, as it is an initiative of the country’s public television. However, from 2023 the show is run in partnership with ORF and SFR.

The broadcast starts at 20:15 CEST and includes an Aftershow, which will air after 1:00 CEST. The programme will, of course, be attended by the representatives of the three German-speaking countries, Nemo, Kaleen and Isaak. Furthermore, fans of the competition will also be given the opportunity to participate, although it has not yet been specified how. Barbara Schöneberger will return to present the show for another year.

EXCLUSIVE: Marina Satti and Silia Kapsis will not attend the Eurovision 2024 Red Carpet!

Eurovisionfun is bringing to your attention once more a last-minute but extremely significant development. Given that Easter Sunday is a holy and significant day for Orthodox Christians, ERT, RIK, and perhaps other public broadcasters from Orthodox countries complained about the schedule of the rehearsals and the Red Carpet event.

Earlier this morning, the 37 public broadcasters received the preview programming from the EBU. According to our exclusive information, ERT and RIK expressed dissatisfaction, stating they had hoped the EBU would be more accommodating with all of the original programming and would not have scheduled this year’s event so that the rehearsals would coincide with the Orthodox Easter week. Most importantly, they requested to not participate in the Red Carpet event on Sunday, May 5, which is also Easter Sunday for all Orthodox Christians. As a result, two more delegations will be missing from the event, following Israel, which will also not be there because that day is dedicated to the memory of the Holocaust

On this significant day for all Greeks, the Greek and Cypriot delegations will attend the resurrection ceremony at St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Malmö. Marina Satti and Silia Kapsis will be with the city’s Greek community on Easter Sunday, commemorating the holy day in a customary Greek manner. ERT and RIK decided to pay tribute in this way to what is arguably the most sacred period of the year for Orthodox Christians because they believed that having the two performers on the Red Carpet on such a day would be a disrespect to the church.

There have been previous instances of something similar occurring. Polina, whose song “Waggon” was chosen to represent Greece in the 1986 Eurovision Song Contest, withdrew from the competition due to the objections of the greek church, as the competition had been scheduled to take place during Orthodox Easter.

While the Orthodox countries of Serbia and Ukraine are heading in the same direction as Greece and Cyprus, Moldova will be participating in the Red Carpet despite the anticipated backlash from the local church.

ABBA World will open in Malmö during Eurovision!

This year marks the 50th anniversary of ABBA‘s legendary victory in the Eurovision Song Contest, where they represented Sweden with the song “Waterloo”. The band’s career took a significant shift with this win, which essentially launched their international career.

So it was expected that this anniversary would be celebrated in some way as part of this year’s contest. Although ABBA themselves ruled out the possibility of performing live at the contest, the EBU and SVT found a different way to include the band in this year’s event

In particular, Malmö visitors will have the opportunity to participate in five activities that make up ‘ABBA World’, offering visitors a unique experience.

ABBA World consists of the following activities:

ABBA the museum

The ABBA Museum uses technology to provide visitors with a range of interactive activities. Fans have the opportunity to participate in a quiz and of course see the costumes, discs and other items of the band.

ABBA Voyage

Innovative lighting and cutting-edge technology combine to create a really unique experience as ABBA performs some of their greatest hits live as digital avatars.

Mamma Mia!

Visitors to Malmö will also have the opportunity to watch Mamma Mia!, the thrilling, record-breaking musical that has been the basis for two highly successful films. Fans will also have the opportunity to attend Mamma Mia! The Party, where they’ll be able to sing and dance to the band’s greatest hits

Polar Music International
With over 60 years in the music business, Polar Music acts as the guardian of ABBA’s catalogue. ABBA’s music is enjoyed around the clock, all over the world. Not a bad result for a tiny label that started out with a group of Swedish folk musicians in the early 1960s

ABBA World will open on 29 April and will remain open throughout the two weeks of the Eurovision Song Contest. Ticketing starts on Friday 22 March at 10:00 CET.

The lyrics of Estonia’s Eurovision 2024 song have been modified!

5Miinust & Puuluup won the ticket to Malmö after their victory in Eesti Laul 2024, the show through which Estonia’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest is selected. However, in order to compete, they had to change a few lyrics from their song “(Nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi”.

More specifically, “Lay’s”—a well-known brand of chips—was mentioned in the Estonian song’s lyrics. However, this is against EBU regulations, which forbid any mention of brands or trademarks. As a result, the delegation of the country had to alter the lyrics of its entry to adhere to the competition regulations.

The modified lyrics are as follows:

“ainus kott, mis näha, täis pandipudeleid”

(the only bag on the table is full of bottles)
