The Netherlands: The majority believes that the country should not participate in Eurovision 2025!

The thriller of whether the Netherlands will be present at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland goes on, and will probably last until the very last moment, on September 15, the deadline for the countries concerned to register to participate.

The country’s national broadcaster, AVROTROS, has more than a week to decide. However, the Dutch branch of RTL conducted a poll and if the decision to participate or not was in the hands of the public, then the country would be out, as 58% think it should stay away next year.

After the controversial disqualification of the Netherlands despite qualifying for the final, the decision seems to be difficult.

Eric Dekker from AVROTROS commented that:

“At the moment, the talks are still ongoing. We’re taking everything into consideration and we’re not making any statements until a decision is made.”

According to the results of the RTL survey, 58% believe that the country should abstain, 24% believe that it should participate and 18% have no opinion on the matter.

Katja Zwar, eurofan and podcast presenter at Telegraaf, also chooses the abstention.

“As much as it hurts me to say, I hope we won’t participate just to make a statement. It’s not nothing what happened, we were unjustly disqualified, while we had scored high. You can’t undo it, but the EBU has to come up with something right to make up for it.”

On the other hand, media expert Mark Koster believes that the country will eventually take part.

“I’m sure there will be a half-baked lame excuse from the EBU just in time, which is just enough for the AVROTROS to participate anyway. And then the whole riot will have been for nothing.”

In the event that the Netherlands takes part, 47% believe that Joost Klein should be the representative again.

Czechia: The search of the next representative for Εurovision 2025 begins!

Czechia is the next country to officially declare its presence at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest 2025 to be held in Basel, Switzerland!

In a statement, the country’s national broadcaster, ČT, gave the first information on the process to be followed. Specifically,  the deadline for the interested artists to submit entries is until September 30, 23:59 (CEST). In addition, Czech Television reserves the right to cancel the entire selection process of the Czech representative, if, for any reason, it does not take part in Eurovision 2025.

However, it is noteworthy that in the ČT announcement there is no mention of the ESCZ, the national final through which the participations of this central European country were determined.

In this year’s Eurovision held in Malmö, Aiko represented the country with the song “Pedestal” but, however, it did not make it to the grand final, as it finished in 11th place in the second semi-final.

Montenegro: Montesong 2024 to be held on 26th and 27th of November!

After a two-year hiatus, Montenegro returns to the Eurovision Song Contest by organizing its own selection process under the title Montesong 2024, which is going to take place on November 26th and 27th in Podgorica.

The national broadcaster of Montenegro, RTCG, announced a public competition for the selection of teh composition and the representative of Montenegro at this music competition, and the process will last until October 1.

As festival director Danijel Alibabić said at today’s press conference, 16 competing compositions will be presented. The best will represent Montenegro at the most famous European music competition, which will be held in Basel.

“The performers must be Montenegrin citizens, and the composers can be from all over the world. It will be a production venture that Montenegro has never seen before.”

Alibabić is full of optimism and believes that the festival will come to life.

“I would like it to have a tradition like the Croatian Dora and to be in that rank. I believe that the stage will be spectacular”

He is also convinced that Montenegro will have a representative who will qualify to the final.

“The fact that they will appear at the festival, where they will be paid for their entire performance, is enough stimulation for the performers. It will be a real spectacle”

According to him, the Association of Variety Performers of Montenegro made an effort to have a team of people at the festival who will deal with graphic design and lighting.

“There will also be rehearsals, so that the singers and the team can correct everything they don’t like and would change, if they want to”

Artistic director Vladana Vučinić announced that the process of judging the compositions will be transparent and Eurovision-style: 50% of the audience – 50% of the jury.

“The jury will include domestic musicians and musicians from abroad. It will be made up of eminent composers”

Vučinić also stated that the festival will be mostly financed by the Association of Variety Performers, and RTCG is in the role of co-producer.

“We want to give musicians support and an opportunity to present themselves. We have few musicians and I encourage everyone to come forward. We would like to hear diverse musical styles. There is room for everyone on stage”

She encouraged especially young performers to apply for the competition.

“Finances have always been our biggest problem. We have to provide young musicians with support, and this is a real opportunity”

When asked if the Ministry of Culture and Media has shown interest in the festival, Vučinić replied negatively.

“For now, they haven’t. But we hope to win the favor of the institutions.”

Iceland: Tomorrow the announcement of whether Iceland will participate in Eurovision 2025!

Tomorrow, RÚV, the national broadcaster, will announce whether Iceland will participate in Eurovision in Basel next year. The Head of Delegation of Iceland said after this year’s competition that he expected Iceland to participate again next year, but nothing was set in stone.

There was great dissatisfaction among parts of the nation after Iceland’s participation in the competition this year. RÚV and other television stations were urged to withdraw from the competition because of Israel’s participation, and the EBU asked people to stop harassing contestants because of their participation.

Rúnar Freyr Gíslason said that the Israeli participation had a negative impact on the competition. It was not the unifying platform it should be. He said that he expects Iceland to participate again next year, but that has not been confirmed yet.

Rúnar said today in an interview with the news agency that the decision of RÚV on Iceland’s participation in Eurovision will be presented to the nation tomorrow. The format of the Söngvakeppnin will also be announced and presumably the dates for when artists can submit acts and more.

This year Iceland was represented for the second time by Hera Björk and the song “Scared of Heights” but failed to qualify for the final as it finished in 15th and last place of the first semi-final with just three points.

In a new post on TikTok on the occasion of her visit to Poland Jojo Siwa confirmed that she is in talks to represent the country in Eurovision 2025.

In particular, in her new post she states:

“Somebody asked if I was gonna do it on Eurovision because [the song] was going viral in Poland. I initially jokingly replied to the comment saying ‘Yes’, but now it’s actually become a real conversation. Eurovision’s into it. We’re talking with the people in Poland because each country essentially decides who goes to Eurovision to represent that country.”

“We have been talking with everybody, obviously there’s a lot that goes into it, there’s a lot of logistics.”

Moreover, she also mentions that during the period when the competition will be held in Switzerland, another project of hers will be running at the same time, but this does not seem to deter her as she comments that:

Eurovision 2025: Céline Dion as a guest star is possible!

The appearance of the world-class Canadian singer Céline Dion is considered possible according to a person from the production of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025!

As per the Swiss newspaper Basler Zeitung the producers of Eurovision 2025 in Basel are flirting with the idea of Céline Dion appearing as a guest on the stage of the contest.

In his statements, the co-producer of the competition Reto Peritz said:

“Of course this is an issue for us. Actually, we want to put talent in the foreground at the ESC and not let them overshadowed by world-famous stars. But of course, it also has its appeal to have such a name on the show.”

Céline Dion and Switzerland share a special story around the Eurovision Song Contest. She represented Switzerland in 1988 with “Ne partez pas sans moi” and won, bringing the competition the following year to the country and specifically to Lausanne.

However, when asked if Céline Dion herself has been asked about this particular appearance at Eurovision 2025, Mr Peritz did not elaborate.

The Netherlands: Joost Klein is thinking of suing the EBU!

Joost Klein is considering filing a defamation lawsuit against Eurovision organizer the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The singer’s manager has already contacted the lawyer Gerard Spong.

The news comes a day after AvroTros had indicated that it did not want to press charges.  The lawyer wrote that it is “absolutely a defamatory allegation” that the EBU, despite the fact that according to the Swedish Public Prosecutor’s Office there is no or insufficient evidence, continues to insist that Joost Klein “would have committed an act worthy of disqualification”.

The fact that AvroTros doesn’t want to create an issue is a sign of weakness according to Spong.

“They must have their reasons for it. They may also have to continue with the EBU next year, so maybe they think: we shouldn’t have any. I think it’s weak.”

“Joost is the right person to file a police report. I’ve been called by Joost’s manager and we’re going to think about it.”

The Netherlands: The prosecution of Joost Klein stopped due to lack of evidence!

Joost Klein will not be prosecuted for the incident at this year’s Eurovision due to a lack of evidence.

The investigation into Joost Klein and the incident that happened at the Eurovision Song Contest has been discontinued. The Swedish public prosecutor’s office says there is a lack of evidence. This means that Joost Klein will not be prosecuted.

The Swedish public prosecutor writes that the investigation into a 26-year-old man who allegedly threatened a woman has been closed. The investigation shows that Klein made a motion that hit the camera. According to the prosecutor, the incident happened quickly, and Klein’s and the camerawoman’s stories differ. Therefore, it is not possible to know exactly what happened.

In his statement, prosecutor Fredrik Jönsson said:

“Today, the investigation closes because it cannot be proven that the act caused real fear and that this was the intention of the man”

Dutch witnesses were also heard on the case. Last month it was announced that the Dutch public prosecutor’s office had reported this to the Swedish public prosecution service.

Joost Klein was disqualified from the Eurovision Song Contest last May because of the incident. The singer qualified for the final on behalf of the Netherlands with the song “Europapa”. On the day of the final, it became clear that Joost Klein was not welcome on the Eurovision stage that night. The decision angered AVROTROS, the Dutch broadcaster responsible for the Eurovision Song Contest.

Klein himself has yet to share his side of the story with the media following the incident. AVROTROS has expressed doubts about participating in the Eurovision Song Contest if the organizer European Broadcasting Union (EBU) does not make any changes to its policy. Several delegations complained of an unpleasant atmosphere behind the scenes at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest
