Switzerland: “We are ready to host Eurovision 2025” says the head of delegation!

Switzerland could become the venue for Eurovision Song Contest 2025, according to Yves Schifferle, head of delegation of the SRF, to the Contest. We remind you that Nemo represents the country in this year’s Competition and is currently the top favourite to win.

Yves Schifferle expressed enthusiasm for the course of “The Code” in the betting odds, but remains reserved:

The whole team is really happy about this support, it gives us a boost. It’s still five weeks until the competition and a lot can change before then. We are now concentrating on the performance, rehearsing and still have a lot to do before Malmö”

In addition, he revealed that initial discussions have already begun for a possible event hosting next year, saying:

We will contact cities that could potentially host the ESC. Cities with large halls and good infrastructure are eligible, for example Zurich, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne or Basel.”

In the end, he referred to the high costs involved in such a large event:

A strong partner city is needed that undertakes a significant portion of the costs and services. You also receive a financial contribution from the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) and ticket and sponsorship is generated.Producing the biggest music show in the world has a big impact on budget and resources. However, other broadcasters in Europe faced similar challenges and found ways to finance this major event.”

The statements of the Swiss head of delegation show that Switzerland wants and is ready to achieve their third victory after their last one back in 1988 with Céline Dion and the song “Ne partez pas sans moi”.

Nemo is going to participate in the fourth spot of the Second Semi-Final of 9th of May.

Will Germany’s Eurovision participation be taken over by a different broadcaster?

A different broadcaster taking over Germany’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest starting in 2025 is a real option that is now being considered, according to a report from the German media outlet DWDL earlier today. More precisely, it is said that the ARD is thinking about granting another ARD member control over the German participation, which has previously been handled by the NDR.

What is ARD?

ARD is the consortium of local German television stations. Choosing which broadcaster will handle the country’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest is one of the group’s duties.

What changes are under discussion?

The most likely scenario, according to the same sources, is that Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) will take over Germany’s participation. MDR is ideal for this role thanks to its string of consistently strong television ratings.

It is significant to note that, if determined, the aforementioned modifications will be put into effect after 2025. The NDR will therefore continue to be in charge of the nation’s participation in Eurovision 2024. In actuality, no official conversations on this matter are currently taking place, according to remarks made by MDR officials.

What caused these thoughts to arise?

Germany’s ongoing poor results in the competition spurred consideration of these modifications. Since 2015, the nation has continuously placed in the bottom two spots of the rankings, with the exception of Michael Schulte’s fourth-place finish in 2018. Naturally, this has resulted in unfavorable domestic responses. Therefore, in accordance with the DWDL, the NDR no longer desires to be the focal point of these conflicts.

This year, Germany was represented by Lord of the Lost and the song “Blood and Glitter”. The band, which is well-known in Germany, came in last place overall, with a total of 18 points. Could these alterations put an end to Germany’s series of unsatisfactory results and lead to a respectable position?

Luxembourg: Ready to host Eurovision 2025!

A few days before the Eurovision 2024 selection process announcement, the Prime Minister of Luxembourg again commented on the return of the Grand Duchy to the contest.

Xavier Bettel who is in addition to Prime Minister and Minister of Media and Communications gave an interview to RTL about the return of this small nation of Central Western Europe to the Eurovision Song Contest. He believes that Eurovision offers the possibility for Luxembourg to increase its international visibility and develop its creative and music industry.

In addition, Mr. Bettel confirmed that in the event of Luxembourg winning by returning in 2024, the country is ready to host the contest in 2025. For Xavier Bettel, hosting the Eurovision Song Contest would be positive for Luxembourg as it would offer huge opportunities for the touristic industry in the country.

Regarding participation in Eurovision 2024, the Prime Minister revealed additional details ahead of the official announcements expected on 3 July. He explained that the representative should have a “Luxembourgish cultural background”. This comment implies that artists from outside Luxembourg’s borders can also represent the country in Sweden.

The last participation of Luxembourg was in 1993 in Millstreet of Ireland when the small nation was represented by the group Modern Times and the song “Donne-moi une chance”sung in French and Luxembourgish. At the end of the show the country finished 20th with only 11 points.
