Latvia: The Supernova 2025 finalists are about to be unveiled tomorrow!

Tomorrow, the participants of this year’s Supernova, Latvia’s national selection for the 69th Eurovision Song Contest, are set to be revealed. The news was shared through a humorous post on the official account of Latvia’s national broadcaster on X.

“Life as a social media editor can be so tough sometimes… But tomorrow, November 20th, our finalists will be announced on the show ‘Morning Panorama’!”

The Selection Process

Out of the 96 submissions, the most promising were chosen by a special jury composed of experts from Latvia’s music industry. The evaluation criteria included:

  • Originality and arrangement,
  • Messages and relevance to the modern music scene,
  • Vocal abilities of the performers,
  • Competitiveness on the international music stage.

Additionally, the jury took into account the artists’ past achievements in the music industry and their potential for future success. The number of selected participants remains undisclosed for now.

This year’s Supernova carries added significance as it marks 10 years since the competition’s inception.

Earlier this year, Latvia defied the betting odds by qualifying to the Eurovision Grand Final. Dons and his song “Hollow” secured a 16th place finish in the Grand Final. Will Latvia be able to maintain its upward trajectory?

Dons, who represented the Baltic country at Eurovision 2024 finishing in 16th place, encouraged interested artists to submit their proposals. More specifically, he stated:

I invite every composer and performer to apply for the competition to get on what is probably the world’s biggest stage, to do it with love and Latvia in the heart! Go ahead! We can, we just have to do it!

The selection process

Following the deadline for proposal submission, entries will be reviewed by a specially formed committee made up of artists and television industry professionals according to the following standards:

  • Originality
  • The message of the song
  • Relevance of the songs to the modern music scene
