Israel: Ilanit is announced as the Israeli spokesperson for Eurovision 2023!
It was announced today that Ilanit will announce Israel’s jury score in the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.
She stated the following:
“I am thrilled to close the cycle of 50 years of Israel’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest with “Ey sham”, with which I represented Israel for the first time in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1973. I wish dear Noa good luck, I have no doubt that she will do well!”
Ilanit was the first Israeli representative in Eurovision 1973, where she managed to finish in fourth place with the song “Ey sham”. Ey sham, in fact, held for the next 20 years the record for the highest-placed debut for a country. Ilanit returned to Eurovision in 1977 with “Ahava Hi Shir Lishnayim”, finishing eleventh. Finally, she returned for a third time in 1985 with “Balalaika”, but Israel withdrew from the contest that year.
Israel is the fifth country to announce its spokesperson. The other four are:
Greece: Fotis Sergoulopoulos
Cyprus: Loukas Hamatsos
Spain: Ruth Lorenzo
Switzerland: Chiara Dubey
Israel is competing in Eurovision 2023 with Noa Kirel and Unicorn in the 1st semi-final on May 9, 9th in the running order.
