Romania: TVR to broadcast Sanremo 2025 despite Eurovision withdrawal
Romanian public broadcaster TVR will air the 75th edition of Festival di Sanremo, marking the second consecutive year of broadcasting the Italian event despite Romania’s withdrawal from Eurovision since 2023.Commentary will be provided by Bogdan Stănescu and Kyrie Mendel.
Sanremo has long influenced the Eurovision Song Contest, with Italy’s representative often chosen from the festival’s participants. Countries like Albania, Montenegro, Moldova, and Russia have also aired the event internationally.
TVR’s decision to continue broadcasting Sanremo highlights its ongoing interest in international music competitions, even while Romania remains absent from Eurovision due to financial and organizational challenges
Festival Schedule
- First Evening (Feb 11): All artists will perform their competing songs, and the top five of the night will be announced in random order.
- Second Evening (Feb 12): Half of the artists will present their entries, and the top five for the night will again be announced in random order.
- Third Evening (Feb 13): The remaining artists will perform their songs, and the top five will be revealed randomly.
- Fourth Evening (Feb 14): The Covers’ Night, featuring duets. Results from this round will not count toward the final standings.
- Grand Final (Feb 15): All artists will compete, with the top five advancing to the superfinal. Voting from the jury and the public will determine the winner.
The festival will run from February 11 to 15 in the picturesque town of Liguria.
The winner of last year’s festival was Angelina Mango, with her song “La Noia”. She represented Italy at Eurovision 2024, finishing in seventh place in the Grand Final.
