Italy: Angelina Mango is the winner of the Festival di Sanremo 2024 | All that happened during the Last Night!

Welcome back Eurovision fans to the world of Sanremo for the fifth and final time for this year. The 74th Festival di Sanremo, or the Italian Song Festival, one of the most beloved festivals of the whole world has reached the Fifth or La Quinta Serata, the last Night, the one that is going to define the winner of this year’s Festival and the possible entrant for Italy in Eurovision Song Contest 2024, since the winners will earn the well known “right of first refusal”, meaning the right to represent Italy only if they wish to do so.

Live from the coastal town of Sanremo, in Liguria, Teatro Ariston opened for one more and last time its gates and welcomed everyone around the world to celebrate, to feel and to dance to the Italian music. Tonight all of the thirty (30) entrants performed once more their songs, just like they did during the First Night, and were judged only by the public during the Night’s first round of voting at least, since during the second and final voting round a sum of televoting and the two juries was held and determined the winner. Thus, brace yourselves for La Serata Finale of this year’s Sanremo, keep reading and find out who was the ultimate winner of the Festival!

Apart from the live, and lucky, audience inside the Teatro Ariston, viewers of all around the world were able to watch for once more the Festival live on RAI Uno and RAIPlay or to listen to the live coverage from RAI Radio 2. Before the official starting of the Festival, Gazelle, Mr. Rain and Sangiovanni shared some of their thoughts for being part of a such a huge Festival.

As an opening ceremony the Italian Army Music Band inside the Teatro performed the Italian National Anthem.

In the beginning of the Night, the general ranking of all the thirty (30) contestants was revealed, according on how the results had been formed that far since the beginning of the Festival.

The presenters

For his fifth and final consecutive year, the famous Italian television and radio presenter, Amadeus, was the main host and the artistic director of the Festival, while on his side, as a co-host, for this final evening, was the famous Italian comedian, singer, radio and television presenter Rosario Fiorello, known just as Fiorello, who accompanied him during all the previous Nights but covering everything from outside the theatre, but now it was time for the audience to see Fiorello on stage performing a medley to Michael Jackson.

The Fifth Night’s format

The Fifth Night is also the final one, at the end of which everyone will know the one and only winner. The Night was consisted of two voting rounds. During the first one, which began right before the first candidate performance, all of the thirty (30) entrants performed for the last time their official entries, while during the second voting round, the top five from the first round had to reperforme their songs, so the winner could be determined among them. During the first voting round only the public determined the result, by holding the absolute 100% of the final result. That specific result was of course added up to the results obtained that far, from all the previous Nights. Ultimately, towards the end of the Night a second and final voting round among the public, the jury of the press and the jury of the radio was held.

The Fifth Night’s performances

All of the thirty (30) entrants had to perform for one final time their songs. The lines opened for the public to vote right before the first performance. Remember that the first voting round’s ranking was determined only by the public. Thus according also to the official running order that was released a few hours ago, the Fifth Night’s performances, along with their voting number, were the following:

(You can watch all of the thirty performanes by clicking on the songs’ titles)

After all the thirty (30) entries had been performed, the lines were closed for the public, for that first voting round of the Night.

Special Guests

Of course La Serata Finale of Sanremo 2024 had also an amazing guest list. The Italian actor, model and television personality Luca Argentero made a lovely appearance along with the Italian actor Claudio Gioè. The Italian ballet dancer Roberto Bolle gave also an incredible ballet performance on stage, accompanied by his dancers. The Italian rapper Tananai was also present and performed live at the square of Sanremo, along with rapper Tedua, who had also performed during the First Night, was aboard on Costa Smeralda on the open sea singing “Red Lights“. However, the most undoubtedly exquisit guest was by far Gigliola Cinquetti, who was the very first Italian winner in Eurovision Song Contest back in 1964, with her beloved song “Non ho l’età”, which was actually performed 60 years later.

The first round’s results

As it is already mentioned, the Fifth Night’s voting procedure is consisted of two parts. Thus, during the first round, only the public was able to vote, hence the absolute 100% of the result was determined by televoting. This specific result was added to all the previous televoting results of the Nights, meaning the 50% of the Second Night, the 50% of the Third Night and the Fourth’s 34%. So , the top thirty general ranking was the following:

  1. Irama – “Tu no”
  2. Ghali – “Casa mia”
  3. Angelina Mango – “La noia”
  4. Geolier – “I’p me, tu p’te”
  5. Annalisa – “Sinceramente”
  6. Mahmood – “Tuta gold”
  7. Loredana Bertè – “Pazza”
  8. Il Volo – “Capolavoro”
  9. Alessandra Amoroso – “Fino a qui”
  10. Alfa – “Vai!”
  11. Gazelle – “Tutto qui”
  12. Il Tre – “Fragili”
  13. Diodato – “Ti muovi”
  14. Emma – “Apnea”
  15. Fiorella Mannoia – “Mariposa”
  16. The Kolors “Un ragazzo una ragazza”
  17. Mr. Rain – “Due altalene”
  18. Santi Francesi – “L’amore in bocca”
  19. Negramaro – “Ricominciamo tutto”
  20. Dargen D’Amico – “Onda alta”
  21. Ricchi e Poveri – “Ma non tutta ma vita”
  22. BigMama – “La rabbia non ti basta”
  23. Rose Villain – “Click Boom!”
  24. Clara – “Diamanti grezzi”
  25. Francesco Renga and Nek – “Pazzo di te”
  26. Maninni – “Spettacolare”
  27. La Sad – “Autodistruttivo”
  28. Bnkr44 – “Governo punk”
  29. Sangiovanni – “Finiscimi”
  30. Fred de Palma – “Il cielo non ci vuole”

The second round’s (Super Final) results and the Festival’s winner

Only the top five performaces qualified for the second round or the Super Final. The second voting round began among only those top five artists from the first round; during their recap of their songs the lines opened once more, so the public could vote one last time. During that time, the final result, thus the Festival’s winner as well, was determined by a voting split system among the public again, holding the 34%, the jury of the press TV and web, holding the 33% and the jury of the radio holding the rest 33%. Thus, the Festival’s very final top five was the following:

  1. Angelina Mango – “La noia”
  2. Geolier – “I p’me, tu p’te”
  3. Annalisa – “Sinceramente”
  4. Ghali – “Casa mia”
  5. Irama – “Tu no”

Of course this means that the official winner of the Festival di Sanremo 2024 and Marco Mengoni’s successor is Angelina Mango with her song “La noia”.

The only thing that remains to see is whether will accept to represent Italy in Eurovision Song Contest 2024, in Malmö or not and if he/she does so, with which song of his/hers.

Italy: Geolier Speaks Out After Controversial Booing!

Yesterday’s finale at the Ariston Theater took an unexpected turn during the cover night, ending with boos and protests from the audience who did not appreciate the winner. Rapper Geolier emerged victorious thanks to his performance alongside Guè, Luchè, and Gigi D’Alessio. However, instead of applause, the singer was met with a barrage of disapproving boos during the award ceremony.

Interviewed by Corriere della Sera, Geolier couldn’t hide his disappointment:

“I did everything to bring these three giants to the stage. Then, to win and go on stage with people booing, getting up, and leaving… It was one of the worst performances. Actually, the worst…”.

The evening, which was eagerly anticipated, ended on a sour note as the audience’s reaction marred what should have been a celebratory moment. Despite Geolier‘s efforts and the collaboration with esteemed artists, the response from the audience was unexpected and deeply disappointing.

The controversy surrounding the outcome of the cover night at Sanremo 2024 raises questions about the audience’s role in shaping the festival’s atmosphere and the impact of their reactions on the performers. Geolier’s candid remarks reflect the frustration of an artist who poured his heart into his performance only to be met with disdain from the crowd.

As Sanremo 2024 continues tonight, the incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of live performances and the emotional rollercoaster that artists often experience on stage.

    • The last 15 songs will be heard again, and the results will be determined by a double voting system: 50% tele-voting and 50% radio committee without exclusions.
  4. Fourth Day – Friday, February 9, 2024:
    • Cover Day: The 30 participants will perform a cover of an Italian or non-Italian song with results determined by triple voting: 34% tele-voting, 33% television and internet critic committee, and 33% radio critic committee without exclusions.
  5. Fifth Day – Saturday, February 10, 2024:
    • All 30 songs will be heard again, and the results will be determined 100% by tele-voting. The results of this day will then be combined with those of the previous 4 days. The sum of all these results will then determine the top 5.

After this, the results of the day will be added to those of the previous 4 days. The sum of all these results will then determine the top 5 (even the 4th day will count, despite the fact that the participants will perform covers instead of their original songs). During each broadcast, they reveal a part of the results from those days shortly before the end of the current broadcast, showing only a part of the provisional general results either shortly before the end of the current broadcast or at the beginning of the next broadcast.

Post Sanremo 2024 – Eurovision Song Contest

  • Any of the 30 contestants (and their respective record labels) interested in participating in Eurovision 2024 must fill out a specific form for this purpose.
  • The winner of Sanremo 2024 is automatically considered Italy’s representative in Eurovision 2024. In case the winner declines to go to Eurovision, the organizational committee of Sanremo will then choose the artist to represent Italy in Malmo according to its criteria from those contestants who have filled out the expression of interest form for Eurovision.

Italy: The results of the Fourth Night of the Festival di Sanremo 2024! | Listen to the covers performances!

Welcome back Eurovision and Sanremo fans! The 74th Festival di Sanremo, also known as the Italian Song Festival 2024, is back for a fourth night in a row and celebrates the magic of the Italian music along with all the viewers all around the world. Taking place for once more at the Teatro Ariston, the Festival di Sanremo 2024 has successfully reached its Fourth Night or La Quarta Serata, probably the most special and the most distinct and different one of them all! Note here and remember that the winners of the Festival will gain the right to represent Italy in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, the so called “right of the first refusal”, meaning that they can represent Italy only if they wish to do so. Tonight it was the time for the Fourth Night, during which all of the thirty (30) entrants came together for once more on stage, since the First Night, with one slight difference; they did not perform their own songs, but covers of other Italian or international songs of the past duetting with one or more guest performers instead!

Live on RAI and RAIPlay for once more, before the official starting of the Night, Diodato and Rose Villain shared some of their happy thoughts on camera for being part of the Festival.

The presenters

Of course for once more the famous television and radio presenter Amadeus was the host and the artistic director of the show, for his fifth and last consecutive year. During each Night Amadeus is not all alone on stage for the Festival, but he is accompanied by a famous artist of the Italian entertainment scene. Thus for La Quarta Serata, Amadeus’ co-host was the Italian television presenter, actress and singer Lorella Cuccarini, who had also served as a co-host during last year’s Fourth Night as well. She performed right outside of the Teatro Ariston before her glamorous entrance on stage.

The Fourth Night’s format

During La Quarta Serata all of the thirty (30) participants reappeared on stage all together, just like they did during the First Night. However, in contrast to the First, Second and Third Night, during the Fourth Night the participants did not perform their own entries, but covers of other songs from the past. At the end of the Night, the voting procedure was also different from the rest of the Nights, since the performances were judged through a split system among the public, that had also voted on the Second and Third Night, the Jury of the radio, that had also voted during the Second and the Third Night and the Jury of the press, that voted only during the First Night. As it is understood, although the candidates did not perform their original songs, they were judged normally and the Night’s final results were added to the already obtained ones of each previous Night, taking us one step closer to the final winner of the Festival.

The Fourth Night’s performances

During the Fourth Night, all of the thirty (30) artists performed an Italian or international song from the past duetting with some guest performers, different ones each time. Those guest permormers had either already participated at the Festival at the previous years, or they were totally newcomers coming from abroad to the Festival. The lines opened for the public to vote right before the first performance and remained open during all the performances. According also to the running order that went public a few hours ago, the performances of the Fourth Night were the following:

(You can watch all the Night’s performances by clicking on the songs’ titles)

Italy: The results of the Third Night of the Festival di Sanremo 2024!

Hello Eurovision fans! During this week of February, the most beloved show of Italy and one of the most favourite ones of Europe and of the rest of the world is taking place, lasting for five consecutive Nights long. It is the 74th Festival di Sanremo, or the Italian Song Festival 2024, of course, which after the completion of the first two magnificent Nights, celebrated tonight its Third Night, or La Treza Serata, during which all the viewers across the world had the opportunity to listen to the rest of the fifteen (15) candidate entries of this year’s Festival. Remember that the winners of Sanremo 2024 will earn automatically the so called “right of first refusal”, meaning the right to represent Italy to the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2024, only if they wish to do so. Taking place of course at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo, Liguria, the Third Night of the Festival di Sanremo 2024 is here!

Live on RAI Uno and on RAI Play, the Teatron Ariston opened for once more its gates and welcomed the whole world to join the Festival and enjoy the Night. A few moments before the official opening of the Third Night, viewers were lucky enough to watch a few interviews from this year Festival’s participants, specifically from Loredana Bertè and Dargen D’Amico.

The presenters

For his fifth and final year, the famous Italian television and radio presenter Amadeus was the main host and artistic director of the Night, who welcomed firmly the audience and invited them to join the show. Nevertheless, Amadeus was not all alone during the whole Night but also the famous and beloved Italian comedian and actress Teresa Mannino was at his side, since Amadeus is joined by a different Italian artist on stage each Night of the Festival. Right before the start of the performances, Amadeus reminded the audience of the Second Night’s results.

The Third Night’s format

During the Second Night yesterday, all of the viewers had the opportunity to listen again to the first half of the total thirty (30) entrants of this year’s Festival di Sanremo, meaning the fifteen (15) of them. Thus, it was time for the rest of the fifteen (15) artists to perform once more their songs during La Terza Serata. As it happened during the Second Night with the first fifteen (15) entries, as far as the voting procedure is conserned, the exact same happened during the Third Night, meaning that the rest fifteen (15) participants were judged by a split system between the public, who held the 50% of the Night’s final result, and by the Jury of the press, who determined the rest of it.

The Third Night’s performances

All of the fifteen (15) candidates were introduced and presented not only by Amadeus and Teresa Mannino, but also by the Second Night’s performers, just like how it was done yesterday, while the Third Night’s participants appeared on stage according to the official running order that had been released a few hours ago. All of the songs were accompanied by a live orchestra with a different conductor each time and the lines opened for the public to vote right before the first performance. Thus the rest of the fifteen (15) entrants who performed their songs were the following:

(You can listen to the Night’s live performances by clicking on the songs’ titles)

01) Il Tre – “Fragili

Il Tre was presented by last Night’s fourth place, Loredana Bertè. The audience seemed to enjoy more the presence of Bertè rather than Il Tre’s, since everyone in the audience sang her song. However, Il Tre gave an absolute worthy performance of his song and seemed to enjoy it up until the last second. It’s a 6/10 by me.

02) Maninni – “Spettacolare

Maninni was presented on stage by Alfa. Alfa managed to pronounce correctly the Greek name of one of the song’s composers; good for him. Maninni gave a very beautiful performance of a really catchy ballad. It’s a 8/10 by me.

  • Right after the commercial break, the famous chorus “Va, pensiero” from Giuseppe Verdi’s opera “Nabucco” was beautifully performed by the Orchestra di Verona.

04) Santi Francesi – “L’amore in bocca

Santi Francesi were presented by Clara. They delivered a satisfying and fulfilling performance of their song with some very good vocals; it’s a 6/10 by me.

05) Mr. Rain – “Due altalene

Il Volo actually presented Mr. Rain on stage. Accompamied by his lovely swings on stage, Mr. Rain gave a quite sentimental performance, however personally I do not finf his song as catchy as some others, although the message behind of it is extremely touching talking about a father who lost both of his children, hence the two swings (= due altalene). It’s a 7/10 by me.

06) Rose Villain – “Click Boom

Rose Villain was accompanied by Gazelle on stage. Her song has a very interesting buildup for me, since its verse is completely different from the chorus in terms of rhythm. Rose Villain gave an excellent performance vocally speaking. It’s a 7/10 for me.

07) Alessandra Amoroso – “Fino a qui

Alessandra Amoroso was accompanied by Dargen D’Amico on stage. The audience totally enjoied Amoroso’s performance. Her song “Fino a qui” is a powerful ballad which was performed very well, vocally speaking, by the singer. It’s a 7/10 by me.

08) Ricchi e Poveri – “Ma non tutta la vita

BigMama presented Ricchi e Poveri. The duo that represented Italy in Eurovision 1978, gave a fully energetic performance of their song, giving some 70s vibes both musically and aesthetically speaking; it was quite fun I have to say, thus I give a 7/10.

09) Angelina Mango – “La noia

Angelina Mango was accompanied by Irama. Probalbly the Third Night’s biggest favourite, Angelina performed her song with full energy and she received the loudest round of applause. In my opinion she was a little bit stressed, but that was following since she is considered the Night’s favourite. Plus her chorus is really an earworm, TO.TAL! It’s a 8/10 by me.

10) Diodato – “Ti muovi

The Kolors presented Diodato on stage. My namesake Antonio Diodato was the next one to perform his song “Ti muovi”. The almost represantive of Italy in Eurovision 2020 gave an amazing performance, although I believe that his song is not at the same laevel with the unbeatable and insuperable “Fai rumore”. Nevertheless, it’s a 7/10 on my behalf.

11) Ghali – “Casa mia

Ghali was presented by Mahmood. Ghali performed his song, while he was totally influenced by Michael Jackson aesthetically. His song “Casa mia” though is not my cup of tea at all; it’s a 4/10 by me.

12) Negramaro – “Ricominciamo tutto

Negramaro were presented by Emma. Although they were better than their previous performance at the First Night, personally I do not think that they will reach the final top ten. It’s a 4/10 for me.

13) Forella Mannoia – “Mariposa

Annalisa accompanied Fiorella Mannoia on stage. Her song touches the topic of female empowerment and the audience seemed to have a great time. I am not sure whether Fiorella Mannoia will make make it to the top five or not, however she seemed to have fun on stage. It’s a 6/10 by me.

14) Sangiovanni – “Finiscimi

Francesco Renga and Nek presented Sangiovanni on stage. Although he performed quite well, personally I found his song quite monotonous, thus it’s a 3/10 by me.

15) La Sad – “Autodistruttivo

And last but not least, last Night’s winner and Napolitano Geolier presented La Sad. Thus, the Night ended with a note of a punk aesthetic influenced by the mid 00s a bit. La Sad’s performance was full of energy and a nice stage presence; it’s a 6/10 by me.

In my personal opinion, the Third Night was not close enough to the Second Night’s performances, since only a few of the favourites were performed tonight. What do you think? Write down below at the comment section!

After a quick recap, the lines were closed for the public.

Special Guests

La Treza Serata had to offer an impressive guest list, just like the two previous ones. Among the famous artists present at the Teatro Ariston, the worldwide known American actor and an Academy Award winner, Russell Crowe was the absolute special guest star of the Night, who performed along with his band. Moreover, the famous Italian rapper Bresh performed aboard on the Costa Smeralda, the legendary Italian pop singer and actor Gianni Morandi was also present and the best selling Italian pop music duo of all time “Paola&Chiara” gave an amazing performance of their song “Furore“. The famous Italian actress Sabrina Ferilli and the famous actor Edoardo Leo promoted the upcoming TV series “Gloria” and the TV film “Il Clandestino” respectively. Moreover, the Italian playwriter and a Tony award winner Stefano Massini performed along with the Italian singer, composer and pianist Paolo Jannacci the unreleased dialogue song “L’uomo nel lampo” giving an extremely moving and touching performance that had the whole audience in tears. Of course, the one and only beloved Eros Ramazzotti performed the song “Terra Promessa” which Ramazotti had won the Newcomers section with, forty years ago, in Festival di Sanremo 1984.

The results of the rest fifteen (15) entrants of the Third Night were determined by a split system between televoting and the Jury of the radio, in which the former held the 50% of the Night’s final result and the latter the rest 50%. For the first time, only the top entries of the Night’s ranking were revealed, meaning the top five. Thus, the results of La Treza Serata were the following:

  2. Ghali – “Casa mia”
  3. Alessandra Amoroso – “Fino a qui”
  4. Il Tre – “Fragili”
