Ukraine: SKYLERR’s withdrawal violates Vidbir 2024 rules!

Vidbir 2024, the national final through which Ukraine‘s entry for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest will be selected, took place last night. However, the results, which are scheduled to be revealed today at 17:00 CET, were not able to be announced  due to a technical issue that occurred during the voting process.

SKYLERR decided to pull out of the competition as a result of these technical problems. However, the country’s broadcaster claims that this is against the rules of the contest. As such, the singer’s request to withdraw was denied!

In case this entry wins, the performer retains the right to refuse to participate in Eurovision. However, this is not foreseen before the results are announced.

SKYLERR issued the following statement in light of her withdrawal, voicing her doubts regarding the validity of the results:

This decision was hard for me, but my creativity, for music, for the stage, for work, for singing, for my people, for you, for all of us, remains. Everything that’s going on right now has nothing to do with any of this and nothing to do with me. Unfortunately, the vote cannot be returned at this time and I trust the moment. The app didn’t work last night or this morning, but as far as I know, it’s working again. The votes can be counted wrong. I understand that this is a big system, it is a failure and everyone has the same conditions, but I am still in favour of a transparent and clear vote, which is not happening at the moment. I’m not interested in participating in these public relations contests that have developed because of this situation, “There are no winners in this marathon” my song lyrics are more relevant today than ever. I stay true to myself, my messages, and my song. Please, if you didn’t get a chance to listen to the song, do it now! In all circumstances, remain human, because time is running out! Don’t lose yourself and don’t lose each other.
