Finland: Submission window for Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu now open!
Having already confirmed its participation in Eurovision 2025, Finland has officially opened the submission window for Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2025 (UMK), the national final, through which the Scandinavian country will select their representative that will travel to Switzerland.
It was only natural that the national final would return for another year, after last year’s major upgrade done by Yle, the country’s public television, to move the contest to an arena.
Earlier today, Yle officially opened the submission window for artists and composers interested in stepping on the Eurovision stage, on behalf of Finland.
The submission window will be open from today, until August 25. Everyone who submits their songs, will receive a response from the public broadcaster by October.
As in previous years, the songs that will take part in UMK will be selected by a jury panel conducted by Yle, and chaired by Tapio Hakanen, the broadcaster’s Head of Music. Those interested can find the application form and the contest rules on the official website yle.fi/umk.
Tapio Hakanen, spoke about the national final:
“In the previous season, UMK became an arena-size event at Nokia Arena in Tampere, with two sold-out shows and, at the same time, the entire production was taken to a whole new level. It was great to see how UMK artists got to take a big career step towards larger stages, greater popularity and gold and platinum records. I’m very excited to see what kind of songs and artists the new season will offer. UMK does not have a specific musical format: hopefully, as diverse a group of artists as possible will apply and take this chance to inspire audiences both in Finland and around the world!”
This year Finland was represented by Windows95man, who ended up in 19th place with the song “No Rules” while at the same time he extended the country’s qualification streak, for a fourth year:
