Blind Channel, the metal rock band, which is the big favorite to represent Finland in Eurovision 2021, opened its papers at Eurovision Buddies! They explain the meaning of the Dark Side, the reasons that led them to participate in UMK 2021, but also their goal in Eurovision, if of course they are selected. Although they say they can not reveal much about their stage appearance, they claim that it will be explosive and will be the biggest thing they have ever done!
Dark Side is very different from what other artists have. That’s why it has become so successful and I really like it!

Moments ago the Finnish broadcaster YLE released the seventh song of UMK, the country’s national final for Eurovision 2021. It is the song of Ilta, Kelle mä soitan.
Ilta’s moving ballad, Kelle mä soitan (“Who Will I Call”) is a specific depiction of what it is like to live in loneliness.
Ilta Elina Fuchs was born in 1997 in Finland. She became famous through her song Sillat (“Bridges”) in a duet with Finnish rap Cheek. Last fall, Ilta released Näitä hetkiä varten’s debut album (“For These Moments”). As a little girl, Ilta sang songs that had a strong presence and a sensitive core, and she wants her music to have the same effect on her audience. Ilta has been thinking for a long time, if she would participate in UMK. In the end, the opportunity to sing to everyone in Finland and the opportunity to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest to an audience of over 180 million people overcame any hesitation.
You could be in the middle of a crowd and feel incredibly alone. It’s one of the most difficult emotions a person can have as we connect with others. I hope my song can offer everyone a little hope and comfort, whether they feel lonely or not. Although it does not contain an explicit message of survival, I hope it can make people feel that they are not alone.

The Finnish broadcaster YLE released the fourth song of UMK, the country’s national final for Eurovision 2021. It is the song of Aksel,Hurt.
Hurt is a powerful but sensitive ballad and you mention how deceptive it can look.
Aksel Kankaanranta was born on January 28, 1998 in Turku, Finland. He was the winner of UMK 2020 and the representative of Finland at the Eurovision 2020 Song Contest in Rotterdam with the song Looking Back. Although his victory last year did not take him to Rotterdam, it gave him other opportunities, such as working with the best producers in Finland where he also released a song in Finnish. Aksel believes he is better prepared and ready to regain his throne as Finland’s next representative in the Eurovision Song Contest.
One may look okay on the outside, but one could still have terrible pain on the inside. When you are in pain, you also end up with those you love. I have had this experience, so I can really identify with this message. My song is also a reminder that you do not need to be anyone but you, Aksel concludes.

Some minutes ago, the Finnish broadcaster YLE released the fourth song of UMK 2021, the country’s national final for Eurovision 2021. It is Laura’s song, “Play”.
Play is an irresistible combination of country and pop music. Its lyrics focus on a relationship inside and outside where one person is bored with constantly forgiving the other.
I want my fans to open their hearts to me and find the strength and support they need to move on in their lives and relationships.
Laura Põldvere, born in August 30, 1988, is known as Laura, and is an Estonian singer. She represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 as a member of the band Suntribe and again represented her country at Eurovision 2017 in a duet with Koit Toome with the song “Verona”.
She is one of the most popular artists on Estonian radios in the last decade. Also her first album in 2007 was one of the most popular albums of the decade. Laura has been in Finland for a long time since she was a little girl. Today, she usually spends half a year in Finland as part of her music and professional career. Her tenth album, released in the winter of 2019, was created in Finland and she has also started learning Finnish. Laura believes that joining UMK will help strengthen her position in her new homeland. The last spark for her participation in was lit last spring, when she participated in the international jury of UMK.

Some mintes ago, the Finnish broadcaster YLE released the third song of UMK, the country’s national final for Eurovision 2021. It is Danny’s song, “Sinä päivänä kun kaikki rakastaa mua”.
“Sinä päivänä kun kaikki rakastaa mua” (The day everyone loves me) is a song with a unique and melancholic rhythm that according to Danny, is not a farewell song. Lkka Johannes Lipsanen, born September 24, 1942, known as Danny, is a Finnish singer and guitarist. Although you may not believe it he is still active in the song industry. Danny’s career is one of the longest in Finland and it is certainly over 50 years old. He has recorded many successful songs. He has done thousands of concerts in more than 20 countries around the world and has collaborated with the best Finnish composers and producers since the 60’s. With over 100 songs in the top charts of the country.
It’s about how life is a gift, but how you can never be sure how long it will last – only that it will end. My song aims to be humorous with a real theme. Although its lyrics may not represent Eurovision, it is an ambitious endeavor that represents a perspective rarely approached in pop music.

Recently, the Finnish broadcaster YLE released the second song of UMK, the country’s national final for Eurovision 2021. It is the song of Teflon Brothers x Pandora, “I Love You”.
“I Love You” is not just an instant catchy melody, it aims to help people better express their feelings and become more open and courageous.
We are the Teflon brothers and we represent the people of Finland. And what better way to represent your audience than to be officially crowned Finland’s representative at the Eurovision Song Contest? Our mission is to bring people to joy, celebration and love. We want to tell everyone that love does not care about the language you speak or your appearance. It is the power of non-verbal cues or, as Pandora likes to call it, mental interaction.
The Teflon brothers have been holding the party in Finland for over a decade and now they want to bring their message of love all over Europe! The idea for I Love You and participating in the UMK has been around for a long time. The seeds of cooperation between the Teflon brothers and Pandora were planted four years ago, in a random meeting behind the scenes.

Some minutes ago, the Finnish national broadcaster YLE released the first song of UMK, the country’s national final for Eurovision 2021. It is Oskr’s song, Lie.
Oskari Ruohonen, also known as Oskr, is a singer and songwriter from the city of Turku. He has been a member of popular bands such as Yournalist and Traffic Island. Oskr is an extremely talented and organic person from a family of musicians. He has written, produced and performed himself and his brother in both Finnish and English. The UMK Competition will serve as the next step in Oscar’s career as he returns to his roots, to perform in English. Oskr idols include James Blake, Bon Iver and Jon Bellion.
Unfortunately, most people do not have the guts to say what they really feel, especially when the stakes are high. They usually end up saying what they think the other person wants to hear. This is something that is universal for all people and cultures, which makes the Eurovision Song Contest the perfect place for my song and its message.

Finland’s public broadcaster, YLE, yesterday announced that the country’s selection for Eurovision 2020 will take place on March 7, through UMK 2020 of course.
Unlike what has happened in the last two years, Finland is returning to the open option.
From now on, one week, until November 7, interested parties can submit their entries online using the official UMK 2020 website.
Each artist can submit as many entries as he / she wishes, but only one is allowed to participate in the UMK 2020 finals. Foreign artists, as well as performers, are permitted, as long as there is at least one Finnish artist and one Finnish performer in each song’ s conduction (a Finnish national or a permanent resident).
The finalists will be announced on January 21st. On the same day, the committee chosen by them will be unveiled. UMO 2020 will consist of one night only and no tickets will be sold. For the first time, UMK will not take place in Helsinki, but in Finland’s second largest city, Tampere.”
The last time Finland selected its representative with an open selection was in 2017, with Norma John singing “Blackbird”, while, although we were considered as big favorites, were limited to 12th place in the First Semifinal with 92 points.
