Eurovision 2025: Swiss Hotel Association takes a stand against price gouging
The Swiss Hotel Association is taking action to combat excessive room pricing related to the Eurovision Song Contest 2025.
According to Swiss media, the Basel branch of the association has introduced a new rule to prevent price gouging among its members. In a meeting held in November, it was decided that during the week of the contest, room prices should not exceed double the standard rate established by Basel Tourism.
In practice, this means that if a room typically costs 200 CHF, the maximum price it can be advertised for is 400 CHF. This agreement will apply to approximately 1,000 rooms that will be released to the market starting in January.
Franz-Xaver Leonhardt, President of Hotelleriesuisse Basel and Region, stated that the association aims to protect the reputation of Basel’s hotels from being tarnished for short-term profit. He also noted that Basel’s hoteliers anticipate a prosperous year thanks to Eurovision and the UEFA Women’s European Championship, both of which will take place in the city.
With this approach, the hoteliers of Basel hope to keep prices reasonable at a time when they could otherwise skyrocket.
