Slovenia Artists reveal the theme of their songs for EMA 2025!
We’re just a week away from the official release of the songs participating in EMA, Slovenia’s national final. On the occasion of the filming of the special show “EMA pred EMA” , scheduled for the presentation of their songs, the twelve competing artists talked about the topic of their songs!
The filming of “EMA pred EMA” are over and the artists have recorded their postcards and gave their first interviews. Regarding their songs, the twelve artists stated the following:
- Klemen: “How Much Time Do We Have Left?” talks about the emotions he felt when his loved one was diagnosed with a serious illness and overcame it. “It’s very important to take our time, discard what no longer serves us, and follow what is precious to us because our time on this planet is limited.”
- July Jones: The message of “New Religion” is about staying true to yourself. “Reflecting outwardly who I am inside, being authentic and eccentric”. The song submitted by July this year was chosen by her friends, who selected it from two options.
- Astrid & the Scandals: They consider “Touché” their greatest success so far. Astrid described the song as a “feminist punk dagger” that talks about a period in her life when she needed help to overcome a relationship. “I wanted my songs to reach the world, and until now, I don’t think any of them had that opportunity”
- Jon Vitezič: The theme of “Vse ti dam” is love. “I don’t remember why I wrote it, but it talks about a rather toxic, not-so-healthy relationship.”
- Eva Pavli: “If you go a bit deeper, the song isn’t that straightforward”. “Niti” talks about a spider, which she uses as a metaphor. If we don’t drastically solve our own problems, we remain tied to them, like a spider wrapping its prey in invisible threads.
- RAI: The song “Frederick’s Dead” talks about the “chaotic state of the world”, leaving the listener to contemplate the rest.
- ANNA: She describes her song “Čau” as energetic. “It’s about everyone who would say ‘Ciao’ to someone. Sometimes, there are people in our lives to whom you just have to say it”.
- Trine: “Grace” is also about love. “It’s about teenage love and how it’s normal for people to feel jealous and compare themselves, but in the end, you should always be who you are and not compare yourself to others”.
- KiKi: The singer reveals that she watched many old Eurovision videos and drew inspiration for “O-ou!”. “The song talks about my behavior when I’m on stage”.
- Žan Videc: “Pusti da gori” (Let it Burn) is different from the songs he has released so far. The theme of the song is the “fiery sparks”.
- ZveN: “Divja” (Wild) incorporates “ancient singing techniques” while including the world’s oldest instrument, the Divlje flute. “It’s about merging ancient civilizations with the modern era, and in it, I seek archetypes of different women”.
- PolarAce: With the song “Kind,” he wants to emphasize the importance of kindness. “I had a chorus with a very beautiful message, and I thought it would be good to share it with a wider audience”.
The broadcast of “EMA pred EMA”, is scheduled for next Saturday, when short clips of the songs will be presented and after that, they will be available in their full forms, in RTVSLO’s platforms.
EMA 2025
EMA 2025 will be held on February 1. The result will be determined through two rounds of voting. In the first round, five committees will vote using the same method used in Eurovision (1-8, 10 and 12). Each committee will consist of five members who will belong to specific groups of people. The five committees will be:
- Music jury (singers, musicians, producers, songwriters creators etc.)
- Television jury (editors, presenters, directors, choreographers etc.)
- Radio jury (radio editors, journalists, presenters, etc.)
- OGAE Slovenia jury
- International Eurovision influencer jury (bloggers, vloggers, online journalists etc.)
After the above juries have cast their votes, the top two songs will continue to the EMA superfinal round. In this round, the winner will be determined by the public vote.
Last year’s representative of Slovenia in Eurovision 2024 was Raiven with the song “VeronikA” who ended up in 23rd place:
