Ireland: “Laika Party” did not break the rules of Eurosong 2025!

Eurosong 2025 winner Emmy did not break the rules after it emerged that the song “Laika Party” had been sent to Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix before being submitted to Ireland’s national song contest, RTÉ has said.

In its regulations, RTÉ has stipulated that any song submitted by performers “must not be submitted for consideration in any other country participating in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025“.

Emmy’s song was produced during a songwriting camp in Norway related to the Melodi Grand Prix (MGP).

The Norwegian website TV2 reported that Emmy said that all the songs created at the songwriting camp were automatically sent to the MGP along with a hundred other songs, but it was not as if we actively sent them there. Although the song was submitted for consideration, it was not accepted.

RTÉ claimed that the rule is to prevent the same performer or song from competing in both the Late Late Show Eurosong and another national competition such as the Melodi Grand Prix (MGP).

Ireland has been allocated in the first half of the second semi-final on Thursday 15 May, claiming one of ten tickets to the Eurovision final on Saturday 17 May.
