North Macedonia: Absent from Eurovision for the third year in a row!

Unpleasant news from North Macedonia, since according to the budget of the country’s public television that was posted publicly, there is no relevant provision for participation in the Eurovision Contest. This practically means that MRT, the public television of North Macedonia, will be absent from the competition for the third year in a row!

In particular, the country will continue its streak of absence for a third year, after its withdrawal from the 2023 contest. The reasons are mainly financial, as in previous years.

So North Macedonia is added to the list of countries that have confirmed their non-participation in the Contest. These countries are: Andorra, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Slovakia, Morocco, Türkiye, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Hungary and now North Macedonia.

Greece, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Albania and Montenegro (which returns after two years) are the only Balkan countries that keep on participating, with some of them having financial problems as well, which pose a threat for the future participation. As for the rest of the Balkans, the Romanian and Bulgarian participations are still uncertain.

The last time North Macedonia participated in the Contest was in 2022, with Andrea and the song “Circles” that ended up in 11th place of the second semi-final:
