For the third year in a row, the island country is using the format of a national final and is organizing Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2024 (MESC), through which they are going to select their representative for the 68th Eurovision Song Contest.

36 artists are going to take part in Malta’s selection process for Eurovision 2024. A process consisting of semi-finals and the Grand Final, will select the artist and the song that is going to represent Malta in Malmö.

The third semi-final which took place a earlier today, with the presentation of nine more songs through a TV show, named XOW. Both the jury and public vote were completed.

Greece: Marina Satti’s Eurovision song will not be selected through a national final

At ERT, the preparations for 2024 Eurovision Song Contest are underway. It seems that the idea of hosting a television show to select the song Marina Satti will sing to represent Greece in Malmö is is being shelved.

The plans for hosting a television show to choose Marina Satti’s Eurovision song are reportedly stalled, according to an article published by Typologies today. The artist’s fame as well as the broadcaster’s economic condition are what ultimately drove ERT to make this decision.

In our view, ERT made the right decision since it would have been preferable if Marina Satti and her team, along with the Greek public television, chose the song they believe would be most appropriate for the competition and her as an artist.

The funds that would have been used to produce this show can be used to fund either the stage perfromance or the production of a compelling music video.

More than 50 songs have already been submitted for Marina Satti

Meanwhile, songs for Marina Satti’s 2024 Eurovision participation are still being submitted. More than fifty songs have already been submitted, some of them by well-known musicians, according to information that was disclosed on the television program Super Katerina.

Interested artists may submit their proposals to eurovision2024@ert.gr through email until December 1st.

Cyprus: Silia Kapsis on Australia’s most popular morning TV show!

Silia Kapsis, Cyprus’s representative in the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest, was interviewed yesterday on Australia’s most watched morning television program, “The Morning Show”. During the interview she discussed her participation in Eurovision 2024 as well as her ties to Greece and Cyprus.

More specifically, she stated:

I’m so excited to be representing Cyprus, I’m over the moon! Eurovision is not only a song competition, it’s a celebration of culture, diversity, unity and of course music and incredible talent. I feel so privileged to be up on that stage and I feel so blessed to be given this opportunity.

You’re one of the youngest participants in the Eurovision Song Contest. How does that make you feel?

It’s so exciting. I’m so blessed.

Are there any details you might share regarding the song or the stage performance?

Unfortunately I can’t. I wish I could but it’s a secret. But little things will be popping out here and there.

In 2023 Cyprus was represented by Andrew Lamrou, who also resides in Australia. Do you know him ? Has he given you any advice?

I don’t know him personally but he has reached out to congratulate me and he was super sweet. We can catch up so he can give me a few tips about the whole Eurovision process. He’s lovely and amazing.

You compose your own music and have put out a few music videos, the most of which were filmed in Los Angeles. What connection do you have with Hollywood?

It’s like my second home. I go there often to work with some of the best choreographers of the world. I’ve made so many connections and friendships. It’s amazing over there. So many opportunities!

What was your mother’s reaction when she heard the news?

My mum was over the moon. She is biggest supporter. She always tells me to believe in myself and never give up,

What is your connection with Cyprus?

My dad is Cypriot and my mum is Greek. So I’m half Cypriot and half Greek, which is perfect!

Would you like to send a message to Greek and Cypriot people?

I adore you and I will do everyting I can to make you proud. Cyprus, I love you!

France: Listen to the first song of Eurovision 2024!

The first song for Eurovision 2024 has already been released! This morning, Slimane was announced as the French representative for the 68th Eurovision Song Contest. His song is called Mon Amour. It is composed by Slimane himself and Yaacov & Meïr Salah.

Listen to the song:

About the artist

Slimane Nebchi is 34 years old and is of algerian origin. He won The Voice of France in 2016 and ever since his career has exploded. His four studio albums have all reached the first place in the french charts and he has also charted in other countries’ charts. He was a coach in the Voice of Belgium. He has also participated in musicals and some films as an actor, while he is also a philanthropist.

The artist is probably the biggest name to represent France in the Eurovision Song Contest for many years. As the head of french delegation, Alexandra Redde-Amiel said, France is heading for the trophy.

With 2 million albums sold. 1 million spectators in his concerts, 2 billion streams across the world, 5 NRJ Music Awards and a Victory of Music, Slimane has announced to his 7 million fans in social media that he will proudly represent France in Eurovision 2024.

Slimane composes his own music, but he has also written music for famous french artists, like M Pokora, Vitaa, Kendji etc.

He performs out of norms in order to weave emotional links with his audience.

Alexandra Redde-Amiel explains why the song is revealed so early

For us, supporting such an artist in the competition implies thinking about everything we can do with him. This is why we make it official early. We want to prepare Slimane, take him to meet Europe. The artist considers translating his song into English and other languages because it is important for him that the song is understood.

Revealing the song in November also gives it the best chance of winning the French public and, ideally, becoming a success on national territory in the hope of becoming also an international hit. It is important that the country supports Slimane as it has always done and even more so today. The artist should thus participate in numerous public service entertainment programs.

Norway: Stig Karlsen reveals changes in MGP 2024 combined voting ratio!

Yesterday NRK, the Norwegian public broadcaster, revealed details on how MGP 2024 will be structured.

Stig Karlsen, Norway‘s Head of Delegation, took part in a bubble rally in the Facebook group “Grand Prix Bobla” which was streamed on YouTube, Facebook and escNorge and he revealed even more details about next year’s national selection process.

Combined voting ratio changes! | People have the power!

Karlsen revealed that after the return of the jury in MGP 2023, the jury will remain in next year’s selection proces. However, Stig has previously advocated that the jury should count somewhat less than 50% in Eurovision. In yesterday’s interview he explained that he sees MGP and Eurovision as the people’s programs, and that it is therefore important that it is the people who have the final and decisive word, and that people should therefore count more than the jury votes. He more than hinted that this will be the case in MGP 2024. Then the jury will count 40%, while the popular vote counts 60%.

He also explained that work is being done on new and better technology to handle the popular vote. The system of only being able to vote from the NRK app, or as a logged-in user, has as a weakness that no one under the age of 13 can actually vote. This is because you must be over 13 years old to be able to create a profile with NRK. Another weakness is that it is easy to create more profiles, and thus acquire more votes than you have the right to use.

Broadcast from two studios

Stig Karlsen said that there will be two studios involved in the broadcast. One studio will be used as the main stage and the other studio will act as a green room. Both studios will have audience present and people can choose whether to buy a ticket on one studio or the other.

Are any released songs competing at MGP 2024?

New this year is that all songs released after September 1st are allowed to compete. When asked if there are any songs out on the charts, on the radio or elsewhere now, and that are ready for MGP, the MGP boss answered yes.

This year, Norway was represented by Alessandra and the song “Queen of Kings”. With a total of 268 points, Alessandra came in fifth place overall and third in the televote. Will Norway be able to maintain its success and secure a third consecutive top 10 finish?
