San Marino: Justine Mayer joins the line-up of UVPSM 2025!

SMRTV continues to surprise and excite fans with its innovations. While the registrations for the 2025 edition of Una Voce per San Marino are still open and the casting process is ongoing, Justine Mayer, the winner of Tour Music Fest 2024, has secured her spot in the Sanmarinese pre-selection for Eurovision 2025.

Justine Mayer joins UVPSM 2025 Line-up

As announced by SMRTV a few days ago, the winner of the Tour Music Fest 2024, which took place in San Marino, would be granted a direct entry into the Semi-Finals of UVPSM 2025. Justine Mayer from France, triumphed in the Tour Music Fest 2024 final, earning a direct ticket to the First Semi-Final of UVPSM 2025, aiming to represent San Marino in Basel.

The Tour Music Fest is Europe’s largest live music competition dedicated to discovering and promoting new, emerging talent across the continent. Singers, songwriters, rappers, musicians, and DJs from all over Europe are eligible to participate, regardless of their language. The competition, which includes auditions throughout Europe, selects the best artists to compete in the final, which this year took place in San Marino.

UVPSM 2025 – the process

The fourth edition of UVPSM will consist of three phases:

Registrations

The submission window for artists willing to represent San Marino in Eurovision 2025 is open and will remain open until December 31, 2024. There are no other specific rules regarding the submitted acts. There is a freedom of language, music style and territoriality.

Academy & Castings’ stage

The Academy is a gathering for education focused on entertainment-related topics, with the goal of studying and learning about the world of music.

The casting process entails the live, private audition to select the Semi-finalists, followed by the jury’s evaluation. The jury will choose roughly eighty contestants or more to advance to the next round.

Six rounds of castings will be held starting from September until late January 2025, as following:
  1. 26 – 29 September 2024
  2. 17 – 19 October 2024
  3. 14 – 16 November 2024
  4. 12 – 14 December 2024
  5. 9 – 11 January 2025
  6. 23 – 25 January 2025

This stage will take place in San Marino Outlet Experience.

Semi-Finals and Final stage

The eighty selected participants will advance to the final stage:

  • Four semi-finals will take place in order for the committee to select the artists who will directly advance to the Grand Final as well as those who will advance to the second-chance semi-final(fifth semi-final). The artists participating in the second-chance semi-final will also fight for a spot at the selection’s Grand Final. From each semi-final, two artists will advance directly to the Final of UVPSM 2025, while two more acts will be determined via the repechage semi-final.
  • Moreover, a sixth semi-final will be held between Sanmarinese contestants. Out of this semi-final, only one contestant will be directly advanced to the Grand Final.

In total, eleven acts will participate in the Grand Final of UVPSM 2025, which will take place on February 22 and will claim the Sanmarinese representation in Switzerland.

The winner of UVPSM 2025 will be decided by a five-member jury. The winner of the selection will therefore have the right to represent the nation at the Eurovision Song Contest in terms of meeting the criteria of eligibility of RTV.

notable difference compared to last year’s edition of UVPSM is that there will be no “established artists” category; thus, no invitations will be sent by RTV San Marino.

Despite this marathon session of a national selection, Megara, UVPSM 2024 winners, did not manage to qualify to the Grand Final, finishing fourteenth in the second semi-final.

Montenegro: NeonoeN comment on the possibility of being disqualified from Eurovision 2025.

Just a few days ago, the band NeonoeN with their song “CLICKBAIT” won Montesong and the ticket to Basel, Switzerland, as they were selected to represent Montenegro at Eurovision 2025.

However, the national broadcaster of Montenegro, RTCG, confirmed the news that the winning band had presented a different version of the song “CLICKBAIT” before September 1, 2024, which violates the contest’s regulations, and if this is proven, NeonoeN may face disqualification.

The band, following the disclosure of this news, responded via social media, defending their victory and expressing their support in case another artist is chosen. Specifically, NeonoeN wrote in a post on their Instagram account:

Thank you to our colleagues and everyone who reached out to us. We are happy that you know that “CLICKBAIT” won under fair conditions and we had no advantage because we presented one of the versions of the song to a small audience in the past, when Montesong wasn’t even under consideration yet.

As we have already said, we love and appreciate all the participants in Montesong. We will respect any decision and are ready either to represent Montenegro to the best of our ability in Basel, or to support Nina if the decision is not in our favor.

Honestly, we expect and hope that NeonoeN and “CLICKBAIT” will impress at Eurovision and present Montenegro in the best possible way. After all, the EBU has dealt with similar situations in the past and always resolved them the same way.

Once again, THANK YOU all.

What will happen if NeonoeN is disqualified from Eurovision 2025?

Nina Žižić, who came second in Montesong with her song “Dobrodošli” (“Welcome”), could replace NeonoeN if they are disqualified from the contest. However, in the past, EBU has faced similar situations without canceling any participation. For example, after the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, a public performance of an earlier version of Jamala’s winning song “1944” from May 2015 was discovered. The video had been viewed by a few hundred people before it was published. The EBU then determined that the published video did not give Jamala’s song an unfair advantage in Eurovision 2016, and therefore no sanctions were imposed. A similar incident occurred with the 2019 Eurovision-winning song “Arcade” by Duncan Laurence, and the decision was similar to Jamala’s case.

Italy: Which artists were “cut” from the Sanremo 2025 lineup

Following the announcement of the Sanremo 2025 Festival participants by Carlo Conti during Tg1, another list emerged: that of artists who submitted songs but failed to make the final selection. Among them are past festival winners, legendary names, and rising stars.

More Participants but Also Many Exclusions

The number of contestants in the main lineup increased from 24 to 30, with the artistic director noting that at least ten more artists deserved a spot on the Festival’s stage. Despite this expansion, the exclusions remain numerous and significant.

The Major Absentees

Topping the list are Jalisse, the duo who won the festival in 1997 with the song Fiume di parole. Since then, they’ve submitted songs every year without ever being selected again. The duo has embraced their predicament with humor, sharing a satirical video where they “celebrate” their 28th rejection.

Other notable absentees include major names like Al Bano, who had high hopes this year, Patty Pravo, the Nomadi, and well-known artists such as Enrico Nigiotti, Ermal Meta, and Virginio.

Representing the New Generation

In the rap scene, artists like Dani Faiv, Luchè, and Shade did not make the list. Additionally, several performers from music reality shows, such as Aka 7even and Alberto Urso, were excluded, unlike other former contestants like Elodie and Irama, who secured spots.

Female Artists Left Out

Among the women who didn’t make it, notable names include Anna Tatangelo, Arisa, Alexia, and Elettra Lamborghini. Irene Grandi’s exclusion caused a stir, especially as she presented a song written by Gianna Nannini.

Alternative and Dance Scenes

Disappointment also struck the dance and pop categories, with names like Gabry Ponte, Eiffel 65, Gigi D’Agostino, Benji & Fede, and Boomdabash left out.

Despite the many disappointments, Sanremo 2025 promises a highly diverse lineup, although for some, the dream will have to wait at least another year.

Israel: All the highlights from the ninth episode of HaKokhav Haba!

The ninth episode of the highly anticipated Israeli selection process for Eurovision 2025, HaKokhav Haba, aired last night. This competition, known in English as “The Next Star”, is the format used by Israel to choose its representative for the Eurovision Song Contest.

Since its debut in 2015, HaKokhav Haba has been the main selection method for Israel, excluding the years 2022 and 2023. The show has achieved significant success, notably securing Israel’s Eurovision victory with Netta in 2018.

Though filming for this season began on October 10 at Neve Ilan Studios, on November 10 the official broadcast commenced on Israeli television.

Hosts and Judging Panel

Returning to host the show are Rotem Sela and Assi Azar. Azar has been involved with HaKokhav Haba since its inaugural edition in 2013 and previously hosted the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest. Sela joined as a host in the second season and has been a presenter ever since.

The judging panel for this season includes a diverse group of music industry veterans:

    • Assaf Amdursky
    • Keren Peles
    • Shiri Maimon
    • Eden Hason
    • Ran Danker
    • Itay Levi

With their combined experience, the panel ensures a high level of competition, which promises to be even more intense than last season’s edition.

Contestants and Their Performances

In yesterday’s episode, six more contestants took the stage, and five of them advanced to the next stage of the competition. Here’s a look at some of the standout performances:

  • Eliad Peretz (23): A singer, keyboardist, and music producer, Eliad is about to release an album. Although his musical roots are in oriental music, he is currently into pop-indie and R&B. For his audition, Eliad performed a song by Ofer Levy and impressed the judges with his unique vocal style. All the judges voted for him, and Eliad received a score of 86%.
  • Itai Paz (20): With roots from the United States, Itai draws inspiration from country music. For his audition, he performed “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” by Bob Dylan. His charisma was evident, and although the judges were impressed, Ran Danker refrained from voting due to doubts about Itai’s suitability for Eurovision. Ultimately, Itai received a score of 79%.
  • Noa Danai (28): Originally from New York, Noa traveled to Israel specifically for her audition. She sang “Russian Roulette” by Rihanna, but the judges had mixed opinions on her performance. Ran and Shiri were not convinced by her overly technical approach and lack of emotional depth, which led them to withhold their votes. Noa received a score of 74%.
  • Shaf Blaash (27): Having previously participated in “The Next Star” in 2019, Shaf returned with a powerful performance of “Shki’ot Adumot” by Eden Hason. His natural talent stood out, and his interpretation was praised by the original singer of the song, who was present on the panel. All the judges except Itay Levi voted for him, and Shaf received a score of 82%.
  • Noam Levy (27): A survivor of the tragic events of October 7, Noam uses music as a way to process the emotional aftermath of the incident. She performed “Hagoleh” by Dudu Tassa in an incredibly emotional rendition. The authenticity and purity of her performance resonated with the judges, who all voted for her. Noam received a score of 89%.

The next episode of HaKokhav Haba will be broadcast Tuesday night.

The winner of HaKokhav Haba and therefore Israel’s representative in Eurovision 2024 was Eden Golan. Eden Golan performed her song “Hurricane“, finishing fifth overall.

Montenegro: Are NeonoeN at risk of being disqualified from Eurovision 2025?

Is there a possibility that the band NeonoeN and their song “CLICKBAIT” will be disqualified from the 69th Eurovision Song Contest?

As it was revealed via the official accounts of the national broadcaster of Montenegro and Montesong on Instagram, there is a possibility that “CLICKBAIT” and NeonoeN will be disqualified as representatives of this Balkan country. Specifically, the national broadcaster of Montenegro RTCG will investigate a video in which the band is seen performing their song at last year’s Kulture Zabjelo festival, that is, before September 1, 2024.

The final decision will be made tomorrow on whether “CLICKBAIT” will remain Montenegro’s entry for Eurovision 2025, following consultation between RTCG and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

In the event of the band’s disqualification, the second-place finisher in the Montesong 2024 ranking, Nina Žižić, will most likely take over the representation with the song “Dobrodošli”.
