Greece’s national final moves forward without Marina Satti

Marina Satti will not be attending ERT’s national final to select the artist and song that will represent Greece at Eurovision 2025.

MAD TV has already begun preparations for the big night, scheduled to take place on January 30 at the Christmas Theater. According to published reports and our own sources, last year’s Eurovision representative for Greece will not be present at the national final.

It remains unclear whether her absence is due to ERT’s decision not to invite her or her own unavailability due to a packed schedule.

It’s worth recalling that during last year’s competition, government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis distanced himself from Marina Satti’s behavior, particularly her infamous yawn during the press conference following the second semifinal. This occurred while Israel’s representative, Eden Golan, was speaking. Political backlash also arose from statements made by two of her dancers, who referred to the minority in Thrace as “Turkish.”

While Marina Satti may not be a guest at this year’s national final, other notable guests are expected to attend. The event will be hosted by Helena Paparizou and Sakis Rouvas, with stage direction handled by Fokas Evangelinos.

On Friday, January 10, the announcement of the 12 national final contestants is anticipated, along with the release of their competing songs.

As of now, ten young singers are still competing, four of which will advance to the Grand Final. There, the Israeli audience and the jury of the show, will select together the country’s next representative for Eurovision! The jury consists of:

  • Assaf Amdursky
  • Keren Peles
  • Shiri Maimon
  • Eden Hason
  • Ran Danker
  • Itay Levi
  • Nasrin Kadri

The special professional committee will consist of 7 members:

  • The chairman of the committee – the director of the IPBC music stations.
  • Two representatives of the radio – music editors to be selected by the chairman of the committee.
  • Two representatives of the television – the director of the IPBC entertainment and culture department and one more representative to be selected by her.
  • Two representatives of Keshet

Yet again, the song can be in any language, but it must contain some sentences in Hebrew.

The selected song will be arranged, recorded and a video clip will be created in order to be presented in March 2025 in a special televised show.

Iceland: The first names rumoured for Söngvakeppnin 2025!

A few days after the official announcements by RÚV, Iceland’s national broadcaster, for this year’s Söngvakeppnin, the national competition through which the country’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest is selected, the first rumours began about the artists who will claim to represent the island in Eurovision 2025.

He is one of the most well-known artists in Iceland and already has experience in Söngvakeppnin, having participated in 2017 with Þórdís Birna Borgarsdóttir and the song “Heim til þín” without much success, however, as they finished in 5th place in the first semi-final and failed to advance to the final of the national competition.

The third name is Ágúst Þór Bjarnason. Ágúst is a young and aspiring musician, living in Akureyri. Last summer, he played for Magnús Kjartansson, the singer of Stuðlaband, and performed with the band at all the biggest outdoor festivals in the country. Ágúst was previously the singer in the band Færibandinu.

On Friday, January 17, the presentation of the artists and songs that will take part in Söngvakeppnin 2025 is scheduled at 20:40 CET through the special TV show “Lögin í Söngvakeppninni 2025”. Croatia: Natalie Balmix disqualified from Dora 2025!

In a recent update from HRT, the Croatian broadcaster confirmed that Natalie Balmix has been disqualified from the 2025 edition of Dora, the national selection for Eurovision. Balmix, who was set to perform her song “Život ide dalje”, was removed from the competition due to a breach of the rules. Subsequently, Fenksta will now take her place at Dora 2025 with the song “Extra”.

Why was Natalie Balmix disqualified?

According to HRT’s official statement, the rules allowed artists to make final changes to their entries until January 5. However, Balmix submitted a new version of her song that was found to be significantly different from the one initially submitted. Following an investigation, independent music producers confirmed that the song’s production, arrangement, and lyrics had been altered so drastically that it could no longer be considered the same work. This breach of competition rules led to her disqualification.

The aforementioned is against Dora’s rules, and that led to HRT disqualifying Natalie Balmix from the selection.
