EXCLUSIVE: The composers of Nemo’s “The Code” in Crete for the Eurovision Song Writing Camp!

In our exclusive article you read a few days ago that this week the first Eurovision Song Writing Camp will take place in Greece, with the participation of composers who very recently won the contest. We can now reveal to you that the composers of this year’s Eurovision winning song, Nemo’s The Code, have arrived in Crete, specifically in Elounda, to participate in the song writing camp whose sole purpose is to create songs for the next Eurovision Song Contest.

Lasse Midtsian Nymann and Linda Dale, who were the creators of The Code, are from Monday July 1 in Elounda, at the First Eurovision Song Writing Camp held in Greece. The song writing camp takes place at the Elounda Peninsula Hotel, one of the most luxurious 5stars hotel in Crete.

With them is of course Dimitris Kontopoulos, but also Elsie Bay, known to all eurofans for her participations in the national final of Norway, MGP.

As we informed you in our previous article, this particular song writing camp does not concern a specific country only, nor of course an artist.

The composers of The Code, along with Dimitris Kontopoulos and Elsie Bay join forces and hope to create one or more songs that will impress the audience and the juries at the next Eurovision Song Contest.

The Song Writing Camp will last until Friday, July 5th. Already in her post, Linda Dale reveals to us that they have gotten to work!

Netherlands: Waiting on EBU action before deciding whether to enter Eurovision 2025

Eurovision 2024 will go down in history as possibly the most controversial in the contest’s history. The Dutch entry’s disqualification the day before the grand final was one of the incidents that captured the attention of both the media and the fans. The EBU provided justification for this decision by stating that Joost Klein, the country’s representative, had used violence towards a member of the production team, however it did not clarify if this was verbal or physical abuse.

The Dutch public broadcaster, Avrotros, expressed its disappointment and with the EBU’s decision, calling it “disproportionate to the circumstances”.

There were a lot of controversial incidents during this year’s competition; the one mentioned above was just one of them. In this regard, the EBU has declared that it would modify the competition’s rules in order to ensure its seamless operation and prevent a recurrence of this year’s events. You can read our related article for further information about these modifications.

As a result, based on information from Dutch media AD, the country’s public television will examine the impending changes and determine whether or not the Netherlands will participate in the upcoming competition.

According to broadcaster’s spokesperson, it is a positive step that an investigation is being carried out. He emphasised, though, that these words needed to be turned into actions, that is, significant and meaningful adjustments that might guarantee both the competitors’ psychological well-being and the competition’s seamless operation.

Joost Klein does not want to represent the Netherlands in 2025 but … Belgium!

Joost Klein, who with his behavior turned the spotlight on him in this year’s conetst, now tries to provoke discussions again with a new statement. According to his words in his last concert, he calls on the public television of Belgium to give him the representation of the country for Eurovision 2025!

After being eliminated from the Eurovision 2024 final, Joost Klein didn’t want to hear about the Eurovision contest, using not the kindest words about his experience in Malmö. But a few days earlier at the Pinkpop festival he seemed to change his mind and said in front of everyone present there, why not in 2025!

While everyone expected that he meant one more participation with his country The Netherlands, Joost Klein has other plans… or so he says.

More specifically, while he was singing in Belgium, wanting to comment on a banner held by some of his fans, which read: Joost for Eurovision 2025 with the Dutch flag on it as well, he said:

Who told you that I want to represent this country! Belgium call me!

Of course, after all the above, no one can take Joost’s words seriously, which change according to his mood. Only time will tell, and so will the judicial outcome of his case.

We remind you that a female employee of the Swedish public television who worked for this year’s competition, sued Joost Klein for violence against her. This resulted in his disqualification from the Eurovision 2024 final.

The Netherlands has not yet clarified whether it will take part in Eurovision 2025. On the other hand, Belgium will hold Eurosong 2025, but without an open call for song submissions, but with an invitation to specific creators and artists. This means that if Joost Klein really wants to represent Belgium at the next Eurovision, he will have to win the national final, Eurosong 2025.

Eurovision 2025: The financing offered by the four candidate cities!

We have entered the final stretch for the selection of the city that will now host Eurovision 2025. Zurich, Geneva, Bern and Basel officially submitted their proposals on Friday July 28 and are now awaiting the decision of the Swiss public television and the EBU. But the local authorities of the four cities financially support the candidacies of their cities, wanting to make their candidacy files stronger. But how much money is contained in the envelopes of the four nominations? Let’s see them in detail.

Who offers the most?

Switzerland’s public television, strange as it may seem to you, does not have a prosperous economy. In future, it will receive only 300 instead of 335 francs a year from each household – on Thursday the SRF announced it would cut around 70 full-time jobs by early 2025, while the country’s political forces argue that 200 francs per household is enough. Therefore, the financial assistance that each city receives from its local authorities is important for achieving the final goal, which is the same for all. Taking over the organization of Eurovision 2025!

Geneva offers the most money: the city and the canton offer 30 million francs. Zurich offers 25 million, Basel ten. Bern comes last: 8 million francs. The home canton of Eurovision 2024 winner Nemo offers by far the lowest financial support. “However, money is not everything”, says the mayor of the city.

The selection process

In the coming days, the first online meetings between the Swiss public television and the teams of the four cities will take place. At the end of July, the SRF will announce the two best candidates, which a team from the EBU and the Swiss public television will visit to discuss and see the proposed venues for Eurovision 2025. At the end of August, the city will be announced which will host the 69th Eurovision Song Contest next May.

Eurovision 2025: Zurich officially submits a candidacy and reveals details of its proposal!

The city of Zurich has officially applied to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. Zurich has a lot of experience in organizing large-scale events and has the right infrastructure and attractive venues: the Hallenstadion with the trade fair, the Landiwiese on Lake Zurich and the Conference Center. The entire effort will also be financed by the city council, with 20 million Swiss francs.

Eurovision offers the city of Zurich the opportunity to present itself as a cosmopolitan cultural city and an attractive travel destination. “Zurich and Eurovision: a perfect match. Zurich is just as colourful, just as lively, just as diverse. We can and want to manage this big project,” says Mayor Corine Mauch.

With Zurich Airport and Zurich Central Train Station, the city is well connected for both international visitors and visitors from all parts of Switzerland.

The details of its candidacy

Zurich has extensive experience in planning and implementing large events. With the Hallenstadion, the city of Zurich offers the right infrastructure for the competition. As the largest event hall in Switzerland, the Hallenstadion has approximately 15,000 seats and, together with the immediately adjacent Zurich Trade Fair, has plenty of room for the space required.

In addition to the live performances in the Hallenstadion, various concerts, public screenings and public events take place in the “Eurovision Village”. For the “Eurovision Village”, the city of Zurich has a square near the center, the Landiwiese, right on the shores of Lake Zurich. The Zurich Convention Center is planned to be the third official Eurovision location in the city of Zurich. For example, ‘EuroClub’ can be hosted there.

As a contribution to the overall cost of planning and implementing the ESC, the city council is applying to the local council for a grant of 20 million francs. The loan is subject to the condition that the contract from SRG and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) goes to the city of Zurich.

Zurich is considered the favorite to host Eurovision 2025, next May. But three more cities are vying for the event. Geneva, Basel and Bern. The final decision is expected to be announced in August.
