Andorra: They won’t return in Eurovision 2025!

Andorra will not be among the countries that will take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Switzerland!

The national broadcaster of the Principality of Andorra, RTVA, announced today that it does not intend to return to Eurovision 2025, which will be held in Switzerland.

This small state of the Pyrenees, between Spain and France, has only six participations to its credit from 2004 to 2009, which was the last year it sent a representative to the competition. It is also the only country in the competition’s history not to have competed in the finals, as all six entries failed to qualify from the semi-finals. For the record, in 2007 the country came closer than ever to qualifying, finishing 12th with 80 points.

Switzerland: Four cities in the running for Eurovision 2025!

The deadline for interested cities to submit bids to host Eurovision 2025 draws near, as announced by Swiss public television. According to the website of the Swiss public television, Zürich, Geneva, Basel, and Bern are the four cities competing for the hosting of the 69th Eurovision Song Contest.

The Swiss public television provides us with information regarding the four potential host cities, while presenting their pros and cons.

Bern

The local cantonal government has finally supported the idea of hosting Eurovision 2025 in Bern, the nation’s capital and fourth most populous city, despite Bern’s initial hesitation to submit a bid. For this reason, the local government is negotiating a 7 million euro grant. The proposed venue, Bernexpo, has 9,000 seats, but it won’t be ready until April 2025. A small airport and a limited availability of accommodation is indeed a challenge, though.

Basel

Basel appears to have high expectations for winning the race for the hosting of the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest. With a capacity of 12,000 spectators, St. Jakobshalle is its candidacy. Basel has experience with these kinds of events, holding a vibrant festival called Art Week each year.

Geneva

For many, the city that serves as the EBU’s headquarters is ideal. Cheap accommodation is guaranteed by its proximity to the French border, and tourists can quickly and easily travel there every day by bus and train. All of the main European destinations are connected to the city’s international airport. Palexpo, which has a 15,000 seat capacity, is the suggested location. The only drawback to Geneva’s candidacy is its lack of vibrant nightlife.

Zürich

The largest city in Switzerland is also the clear favorite to host Eurovision 2025. The city is regarded as the heart of the country’s LGBTQ+ community, and it has unlimited options for accommodation and a major airport. There are two potential venues: the Hallenstadion (15,000 seats) and the Swiss Life Arena (12,000 seats).

The decision is expected to be made in late August.

Bulgaria: In September the decision for Eurovision 2025

Bulgaria seems not to reject, at least yet, the idea of Eurovision 2025. According to what was revealed by the official account of the public television (BNT) for the contest, the decision on the participation or not of the country in Eurovision 2025 will be made in September.

In September, the month in which the deadline for the preliminary participation of public broadcasters in the competition also expires, BNT will decide whether to finally participate in Eurovision 2025 or not.

Bulgaria’s last participation in the competition was in 2022 with Intelligent Music Project and the song Intention, which with 29 points took 16th place, among 17 entries in the semi final.

Italy: Sanremo 2025 will take place from 4 to 8 February

Sanremo 2025 will take place one week earlier than usual. The 75th Festival, which will take place at the Teatro Ariston form 4 to 8 February, will most likely determine the artist who will represent Italy in Switzerland.

Carlo Conti is continuing his preparations for Sanremo 2025. After he’s already made public the first major changes, we now know the dates:  from February 4 to 8, the modest town of Liguria will be the focus of all musical attention in Europe.

There are 24 songs vying for the Golden Lion, which is six fewer than the 30 entries in the competition this year.

More specifically:

  • First night: 24 artists will perform their songs. The top five will be announced in random order.
  • Second night: 12 artists will perform their songs for the second time. The top five will be announced in random order.
  • Third night: The remaining 12 artists will perform their contest songs for the second time. The top five will be announced in random order.
  • Fourth night: the competing artists will perform a duet/cover of an already existing song. There will be a winner, but this night’s results will not add up to the final results.
  • Fifth night: 24 artists will perform their songs. The top five performers from the combined rankings of all previous nights will qualify for the superfinal. The audience and judges will vote to determine the winner after they perform their song a second time.

Italy has not confirmed its participation in Eurovision 2025, nor if the Sanremo winner will represent the country in Switzerland.

The Netherlands: “Why the f*ck not 2025”, says Joost Klein!

He was undoubtedly one of the stars of Eurovision 2024, Joost Klein, who represented the Netherlands in this year’s competition with the song Europapa, but was unable to compete in the final after the EBU decided to disqualify him, seems he not rule out the possibility of returning to Eurovision in 2025.

Joost Klein sang at noon on Saturday at Pinkpop, Europapa. He had with him the team that also accompanied him to Malmö. The artist who was disqualified from the Eurovision final shortly before the start of the competition, due to an incident that brought him into contact with Swedish justice, says he could try again in 2025.

Without these people, the band and the people around me, there would be no Eurovision. So many people worked so hard, for months, everyone! Why the fuck not 2025?

Both the artist’s manager, as well as the Dutch public television Avrotros, did not want to comment on this. Everything, of course, will probably be decided by the outcome of the court with the employee of the Swedish public television, for the incident of violence that she denounced him and that happened behind the scenes of the competition.

Would you like Joost Klein to represent the Netherlands at Eurovision 2025? Tell us in the comments below!

Breaking News: Steering Group’s meeting takes place in Madrid without the presence of Martin Österdahl!

The Steering Group for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024 visited Madrid to supervise the competition’s preparations, which will be held in the Spanish capital, as seen in pictures posted on social media by Alexandra Redde-Amiel, the head of France’s delegation in both Eurovision and Junior Eurovision. The notable thing, though, is that Martin Österdahl—who serves as Junior Eurovision’s Executive Supervisor to this day—is conspicuously absent from the pictures.

The aforementioned development supports the rumor that the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is seeking to remove Martin Österdahl from his position due to his poor handling of this year’s Eurovision and crisis that emerged, which brought about an abundance of negative publicity to the competition. This was also evident during the live broadcast of the Final, when he was the target of numerous and strong criticism as well as booing from the audience.

The 22nd Junior Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Caja Mágica, Madrid on November 16, following France’s refusal to host the contest for the third time in four years.
