Eurovision Song Contest 2025: Reto Peritz and Moritz Stadler will be the Executive Producers!

The SRG Executive Board has appointed Reto Peritz from SRF and Moritz Stadler from RTS as co-executive producers for the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) to be held in Switzerland. Both will continue in their current roles but will be substituted for a year to focus on the contest.

Organizing the Eurovision Song Contest in May 2025 in Switzerland is a monumental task. Responding to the ESC Task Force’s request, the SRG Executive Board has selected the individuals who will assume overall responsibility for the world’s largest music event. The role of executive producer will be jointly held by Reto Peritz, 51, currently the Director of Entertainment at SRF, and Moritz Stadler, 38, currently the Head of Operations at RTS.

The Executive Board believes these two media managers are ideally suited for the job, bringing extensive experience with the ESC. Reto Peritz has previously served as the Head of the Swiss Delegation and was an elected member of the ESC Reference Group from 2019 to 2021. Moritz Stadler is a long-time employee of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

While retaining their current roles within their respective business units, Peritz and Stadler will gradually hand over their ongoing projects until June 2025. This transition will allow them to dedicate their efforts entirely to the organization of the ESC 2025.

Belgium: There will be no open song submission for Eurosong 2025!

VRT, Belgium ‘s public broadcaster, confirmed a while ago that there will be no open submission process for Eurosong 2025, the country’s national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025!

After a public protest by Joeri Fransen, VRT stated the reasons why there will not be an open submission process, through the channel’s General Music Coordinator:

“We have abandoned the elimination race that is ‘Eurosong’. ‘ used to be, and will no longer be, organizing preliminary rounds, semi-finals and a final,” says Kerremans. “We have noticed that such a formula is especially interesting for novice artists who could use any exposure, but it deters many established artists because of the possible loss of face. We have also abandoned the formula whereby absolutely everyone can submit a song. In the past we received thousands of submissions and that put too many songwriters to work unnecessarily.”

The process that will now be followed will be similar to the one that VRT followed in 2023.

After the channel contacted record labels, it already has a shortlist of potential artists, who will be asked to submit two songs by September, when VRT will select the finalists for the national final.

Liechtenstein: Radio Liechtenstein will apply for EBU membership!

Radio Liechtenstein is planning to apply for EBU membership according to Liechtensteiner Vaterland.

Liechtenstein newspaper Liechtensteiner Vaterland broke the news.  According to their sources, Radio Liechtenstein is in the process of applying for EBU membership.

In the early 2010s, Liechtenstein showed some interest in becoming a EBU member and competing in the Eurovision Song Contest.   Peter Kolbel, former director of 1 FL TV, the only television station based in the state, was very positive about Liechtenstein participating in Eurovision.  Sadly, plans for Liechtenstein’s participation were halted after Kolbel’s death four years ago.

The Managing Director of the television station 1 FL TV, Sandra Woldt did not follow the path set by her predecessor. Thus the possibility of seeing the state’s debut in the competition was suspended indefinitely.

Radio Liechtenstein was founded in 1995 and is partially funded by the government of Liechtenstein as its only public broadcaster. The radio station is one of two multimedia companies based in Liechtenstein along with 1 FL TV.

If Radio Liechtenstein becomes a member of the EBU, it will become one of thirteen other full members of the EBU that are only radio broadcasters. However, it would be highly unlikely that Radio Liechtenstein would be able to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest, as no radio broadcaster has ever taken part in the event, as the contest requires a televised broadcast in the participating countries.

Israel: Confirmed its participation for Eurovision 2025!

The country that was in the spotlight this year like no other, both before and during the contest, has confirmed its participation for Eurovision 2025, while in a short time it will announce details of the selection process that will follow.

Israel’s public television has confirmed to our colleagues at Euromix that it will participate in Eurovision 2025 next May in Switzerland. In fact, as pointed out, KAN is going to give more information in the next period of time on how to highlight the artist, as well as the song, that will represent the country in the next contest.

Although they haven’t settled on the selection method so far, they are most likely to continue the Hakokhav Haba (Rising Star) format, through which since 2015 whenever they have used it they have always qualified for the final, achieving one win in 2018 and two more top 10s. Of course, internal selection is not excluded either (as was done in the case of Noa Kirel). The possibility of a national final does not seem to gather any chance.

KAN hopes that Eurovision 2025 will be quieter and with less drama, hoping for a more peaceful season for everyone.

Israel is the 11th country so far to have expressed a desire to participate in Eurovision 2024, following Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Luxembourg, Malta, Spain, Portugal, Croatia, Germany and host Switzerland .

We remind you that Israel was represented this year by Eden Golan with Hurricane, which won fifth place.
