Eurovision 2022: Finland’s First Rehearsal!

Kicking off the first rehearsals of the 2nd Semi-Final of Eurovision 2022 are the Finnish rock superstars “The Rasmus” with their energetic song “Jezebel“.

Everything about The Rasmus :

The popular rock group “The Rasmus” was formed in 1994 in Helsinki and has had worldwide success with singles like “In The Shadows” and “Livin’ In A World Without You”. The current line up consists of Lauri Ylönen (vocals), Eero Heinonen, (bass), Aki Hakala (drums) and Emilia Suhonen (guitar). The band has sold 5 million albums worldwide and approximately 350,000 albums in Finland alone, and has won numerous awards, both domestic and international. They have released 9 studio albums and are currently working on their next one.

The Rehearsal

Finland’s set is covered with with huge, floating black balloons, and the band have brought bright yellow wet weather clothing to the Turin stage. Maybe they’re planning a dip in the waterfall?

As you’d expect from The Rasmus, this is a really confident performance that packs a powerful visual punch with the yellow lighting. They’re like a swarm of rock bees, and we’re very much awake.

Of COURSE Finland have fireworks and smoke jets in the final chorus – it’s pure rock ‘n’ roll.

Finland: The results of the second episode of Viisukupla – Eurovisionsbubblan!

On Saturday, 30 April, the second episode of Viisukupla – Eurovisionsbubblan took place, where 13 more entries of this year’s Eurovision 2022 were evaluated by the audience and the panel of judges.

The Finnish preview show is presented by Märta Westerlund and Katri Norrlin. Permanent panel members are Eva Frantz and Mikko Silvennoinen while there are two guest judges each week. In this episode we saw Paul Uotila and Hanna Pakarinen. The audience and the panel of judges could vote for each entry by choosing a colour. Green when they liked it, yellow when the song left them with neutral feelings and red when they didn’t like it.

The results of the judges:

  1. The winners in the judges’ vote were Australia and the United Kingdom with 4/4 positive votes.
  2. Estonia and Serbia received very good reviews, with three positive votes. A good sign for these two countries, since they are participating in the same semi-final as Finland.
  3. No entry received 4 negative votes from the judges.
  4. Last in the jury ranking were Bulgaria and North Macedonia with 3 negative votes.

The results of the public voting:

  1. The winner of the public vote with 87% was Norway.
  2. Austria ended up 2nd with 79%.
  3. Denmark finished last in the public vote as no one said they liked this entry.

Next Saturday, 7 May, the third and final episode of Viisukupla – Eurovisionsbubblan will be released, where the 13 remaining entries of this year will be evaluated.

Eurovision 2022: Armenia’s First Rehearsal!

After Subwoolfer from Norway, Rosa Linn from Armenia, is here to ‘SNAP‘ at the Eurovision stage!

Everything about Rosa Linn

Born and raised in Vanadzor, singer-songwriter Rosa Linn will represent Armenia in Turin.

In her own words, Rosa says: ‘From the outside looking in, the odds seemed like they were against me – an unknown girl from a small town in Armenia. But the power of manifestation is real when it is combined with hard work; persistence; and just putting oneself out there. I’m excited to let people into my inner-world through my music.’

Rosa will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of her country’s Junior Eurovision counterpart, Maléna, who won the most recent Junior Contest for Armenia in Paris last December.

The Rehearsal

There’s a full constructed set for this performance, our first of the day. It’s a white bedroom with walls and furniture that look like they’re made from sticky notes – we’ve just had a chat with the Armenian delegation (sat in the Green Room pod next to us) and they’ve confirmed it’s a reinforced paper structure.

The set also rotates (through manpower, rather than an actual rotating stage), which provides a very cool ending.

Albania: Changes in Ronela’s choreography?

It seems that it is difficult to have Eurovision without drama! The photos from yesterday’s rehearsal of Albania in the official account of the Eurovision Contest were deleted and replaced by others.

Fans speculate that the reason is a photo that was used as a cover and was considered provocative:

Erdi Tejeci, a member of the Albanian delegation, published the following:

Is something wrong here? The first pictures of Ronela Hajati were deleted from the official page of Eurovision and now they have been republished with cut pictures while she is dancing with Klaudia Pepa and their hands are going down! You are trying to do something that has never happened before in your country and EBU considers it too much for a family show, when we had two women kissing on stage at Eurovision 2013, writing history. I will take this personally!

There are also rumors that EBU asked the Albanian delegation to change the choreography, because it was considered too provocative. (This post has been deleted from Twitter).

Ronela Hajati herself posted this reaction on her Twitter account a little earlier:

The second rehearsal of Albania will take place on Wednesday 4/5 so we will have a better picture of what we will see from Ronela on the stage of the competition and we will see if there are any changes in the choreography.

Eurovision 2022: Norway’s First Rehearsal!

The next country on the stage of Eurovision Song Contest 2022 is Norway. Subwoolfer with the song“Give That Wolf A Banana”  are ready for his first rehearsal on the stage of PalaOlimpico in Turin!

Everything about Subwoolfer:

Subwoolfer, the biggest band in the galaxy, got together 4.5 billion years ago on their home planet… the Moon.

Since then, Keith and Jim have conquered the music scene on every other planet, making them the most successful pop group ever… so they tell us.

On Sunday 20 July, 1969, a prophet named Neil appeared to them, and was soon hailed as ‘the man with the strongest arms’. He promised to return telling them he would help them become the biggest band on his planet, too; but only once they had written the greatest song in the universe, sung in his native tongue, English.

Neil never returned. However, they found DJ Astronaut. And now, armed with the greatest song in existence, Give That Wolf a Banana, they have come to earth to claim their musical throne by performing at the most important and prestigious musical event in the history of the world: the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.

The Rehearsal

This staging is very similar to the performances we’ve seen from Subwoolfer at MGP and the Eurovision parties – Keith and Jim are supported by three backing dancers in yellow suits and DJ astronaut is overseeing proceedings from their elevated pulpit.

We know some people think Subwoolfer are a novelty act, but we beg to differ – it’s a really polished routine and both Keith and Jim deliver great vocal performances. The dance routine is PRECISION.

Eurovision 2022: Greece’s First Rehearsal!

The second day of rehearsals continues with Greece and Amanda Georgiadi Tenfjord entering the stage of PalaOlimpico for her first technical rehearsal with the song “Die Together”.

Who is Amanda?

Amanda Georgiadi Tenfjord is a critically acclaimed international singer and songwriter. Tenfjord spent the early years of her life living in Greece, before later relocating to Norway with her family, where she found herself in the same school class as Nordic popstress Sigrid.

She released her first EP, “First impression” under the stage name Amanda Tenfjord, from the city from which she grew up and received excellent reviews. Her second EP includes the song “Then I fell in love” which is a great radio success, remaining for over 20 weeks in the official top 10 radio chart of Norway. In 2020 Netflix includes the song “Troubled Water” in the series “Spinning out”.

When she’s not making music, Amanda studies medicine and has been doing her placement in a hospital for COVID-19 patients.

Τhe Rehearsal

Amanda Georgiadi Tenfjord is up next, singing her ballad “Die Together”. The staging for Greece’s entry is really interesting – just Amanda on the stage in a long, silvery-white dress, surrounded by fallen-over, empty chairs against a blue backdrop. There’s an echo on the vocal that feels quite haunting – it’s impossible not to watch. VERY dramatic.

Eurovision 2022: Iceland’s first rehearsal!

Next up on the stage of Eurovision Song Contest 2022 is Iceland. Systur with the songMeð Hækkandi Sól”  are ready for his first rehearsal on the stage of PalaOlimpico in Turin!

Everything about Systur:

Sigga, Beta and Elín are a band of sisters who have been singing together for as long as they can remember.

The girls previously assembled a group named after their beloved grandmother, Sísí Ey; scoring a huge hit in Iceland with the song, Ain’t Got Nobody.

Their father, Eythor, was a member of the legendary jazz-funk band, Mezzoforte, who scored a UK number 17 hit in 1983 with the song Garden Party. Their mother, Ellen, is also a singer, and their brother (also named Eythor) will join them on stage playing drums.

The three siblings believe strongly in the healing power of music and spend much of their time supporting those who are marginalised in society. In recent years, they have focused their activism on trans children’s rights, and are deeply involved with the local community

The Rehearsal

Systur’s song Með Hækkandi Sól means ‘with the rising sun’, so it’s literally the morning after a night of Austrian techno. Some more super-stylish retro outfits – the sixties and seventies are VERY big in the costume department this year.

This performance has some beautiful harmonies, and the glittery graphics make it feel quite magical. 100% would attend this Icelandic family gathering.

The second rehearsal of Iceland will take place on Thursday 5/5 so we will have a better picture of what we will see from Systur on the stage of the competition.
