Spain: Changes in the rules for Benidorm Fest 2026 announced!
Benidorm Fest will have new contest rules for 2026.
RTVE’s president announced the Joint Committee for Parliamentary Control of the RTVE Corporation and its Companies.
RTVE will renew the agreement with Benidorm City Council and the Generalitat Valenciana, which will allow the 2026 edition of Benidorm Fest to be held.
There will be new rules for Benidorm Fest. RTVE plans to approve the new rules before celebrating the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in May. The goal is to “expand to new audiences”. Benidorm Fest will have an artistic director and a brand new pre-selection committee for the Benidorm Fest candidates.
“The Benidorm Fest is the result of the commitment of the public Radio and Television, not only to creation and innovation but also to the revitalization of the Spanish music industry. It is a festival that has a very important capacity to attract a very diverse audience, especially young people,” stressed López.
According to RVTE’s president, Benidorm Fest has a 34% audience share “in the 13 to 24 age group”, making it one of the most followed events by young people, not only on public television but in Spain, and it is almost at the same level as the Eurovision Song Contest, which is the most watched entertainment content in this country.
“In the coming weeks, in the coming months, we will proceed to renew the agreement that ended at the end of 2024 so that the festival can continue to be held. We are going to proceed with the reform of the contest rules for 2026 that will allow us to expand the festival to new audiences.”
